Kratos was only ready to face some his old "demons" again after it was long behind him, and even then it was no mean feat even for someone as resilient and stoic as him. and i believe it's the same with any kind of therapeutic practice or journey of self-discovery: it hurts. it hurts bad. and if you don't do it right it'll break you. but if you're ready, when you're ready, and if you're fortunate enough to be guided and supported and loved, it can make you a whole different person.
Well the only reason Kratos killed Magni is to ensure that Atreus wouldn’t get killed by Modi due to Atreus’ lack of emotional control while Atreus was the one who killed Modi. I understand Kratos here but he did the right thing.

I didn’t think much about Magni and Modi but when Kratos puts it like that, it’s incredibly saddening and adds a lot of depth to their characters. Also liked how Santa Monica basically explained why Kratos didn’t raise Atreus as hardcore as we (or maybe just I) thought he would.
Kratos also says they are adults and make their own choices and their own mistakes too. It's a doubled edge sword I guess. Having empathy is a good thing. But does not absolve one from their own responsibility. In the end everyone has to carry their own consquences. Which they did.
It shocks me that even for a rogue-like DLC; Santa Monica can still write such amazing detail for these characters and how they feel. It's a great closure for Ragnarok. Kratos being the God of Hope, can now bring it to other lands.

I suppose that upon reflection and seeing how it affected their father despite his negative treatment of his sons, and Odin’s disgusting belittlement of his grandchildren, gave him a new perspective, a reflection that they really were locked in a vicious cycle of violence, which they now had no hope of leaving. Kratos is eternally grateful that Atreus did not had to go through this, but is sad that Thor’s children didn’t have a choice. It’s clear that he sees a lot of himself in Thor.
Precisely. This little bit of dialogue also ties a bit into the main game and now we understand more why Sif was so adamant to educate Thrud and really getting her away from Odin. We know that dying in battle is an honor in Norse Myth but I believe that Sif took it hard when both her sons died and she couldnt handle another child dying over nothing for a man (odin) who is the most manipulative and egotistical god there is. Maybe Thor, Magni and Modi didnt escape that cycle but Thrud is the living proof that it was possible and that is beautiful.

Ngl, I don't really like the idea that Kratos regrets killing Magni, Modi, and Helios, but he doesn't regret killing Hercules. Kratos literally tries talking Hercules down right before their fight because he didn't want to fight his brother, something that he never did with those three.
Still, the difference is that Hercules was a dangerous individual (not because of his strenght, but because of his personality attached to a demigod body, a Kratos 2.0 who would kill Kratos to be the new god of war), killing him was better for the world (unlike Helios, who was only fighting to save his home by any means (even decieving Kratos), and also that Helios saved him and he knew the dark consequences of killing the sun god) For Magni and Modi, he only felt pity.

Magnifique and Modi reunited didn’t stand a chance in front of Kratos. Fighting 1v1 is just an honorable death that is waiting for us.
