It's the Knight before Christmas and some of you might be receiving a rather large box under the Christmas tree , or maybe you have a Knight in a box somewhere because you're afraid of ruining it. Well fear no more! I put together my top 5 tips for anyone lucky enough to own one of these behemoths. I painted this Knight with no airbrush, I used a contrast paint as a base coat, and it took no time at all to achieve this result! If you would like to see me paint another knight as a tutorial, please let me know! I may have a Chaos Knight to use! I hope you enjoy these tips and they encourage you to paint up those Knights, or other big intimidating models and reduce your pile of grey! Happy Christmas to everyone who celebrates it!

Twas the knight before Christmas...
Hahahaha sombody gets it.
I really like those boards holding your armor pieces. Much classier than my alligator clips on kebob skewers held in a block of wood
Ye I’m a big fan.
As you are obviously well versed in assembly and painting I think it would be great if you did a video about when it is advisable to do sub assembly and when it is not. As always, great video and thank you for sharing your insight with all of us.
Great idea. Thansk.
Magnitazation really helps as well.
Just look at the model, think about the steps you go through when painting. Now imagine painting that part whilst it’s attached. Does it seem like a pain in the ass? Then do sub-assembly.
I would definitely say free blade but aligned with my marines if I ever get one
Sounds very cool man
This was great, exactly the kind of tips needed for a big model like this
Glad you liked it pal.
I’ve been looking for a more updated version of things to know about knights for a while, I want to start a knights army and I already have some models but I’ve been a little intimidated because I don’t want to mess up my expensive things. Thank you for this video it’s helped give me a better piece of mind for when I start my knights
That’s awesome pal. Glad it helped.
I do like these tips and tricks videos, very useful for the new players like myself. Merry Christmas Andy
Merry Christmas to you to pal. Hope you have a great holiday.
A nice quick video especially on something as daunting as a knight, great video as always Andy a great holiday :)
Really appreciate that.
Very handy I think I’m getting one for Christmas I’ll follow your instructions if I do. Merry Christmas
Awesome pal.
Great tips!
Glad you liked them!
Great Video Andy - Personally I'd like to see some more like this along with the Painting ones.
Glad you liked it.
lol i bought the lance yesterday, once again thanks for the tips on the templars. i got most of them painted for christmas lol
Awesome dude. I plan on doing a pile more templars in January.
Staring my first knight soon, it’s been sitting on the shelf for almost a year lol. Thanks for this video
Oh awesome-hope you enjoy the process and don’t get too daunted by it, it’s just a very big space marine…😂
I'd realy like to seena full video on how you do your knights. Awesome stuff mate
One day maybe.
Great tips 👍🏻
Cheers pal
Great stuff boss and Happy Christmas.
Thanks Pal.
Saw this video too late. Fully assembled and primed my knight. Still excited tho!
Oh that will be tonight to paint. But not impossible you will love the final result.
@MediocreHobbies I'm not too worried. I have a "don't worry about what I can't see" approach. I'm definitely not a perfectionist thankfully.
Another cracking video Andy, thanks so much for sharing.
Haven’t started with 3D printing as yet, but having seen your videos and prints I’m pretty keen now and will be taking your recommendations. Key focus would be on some 10mm Warmaster (associated resin terrain), Cold War wargaming (modern armour) and 28mm Warhammer Fantasy.
If time / schedule permits, might suggest a beginners guide to 3D printing (the process and tools you’ve found to work).
Thanks again!
Glad I could help pal and yes a video like that would be great.
This is perfect. I bought the Chainbreaker Lance ox and have been 3d printing the rest of my army. Thank you!
Chain breaker lance?
@@MediocreHobbies the Holiday Imperial Knights box from this year
Looking to get into warhammer if just for the crafting ..this video was helpful to understand what im getting into
Glad it helped out pal. And I hope you do jump in with the hobby it really is a great thing to have.
Great video thanks for sharing
Anytime pal.
Your guides are great
Cheers dude.
@@MediocreHobbies welcome
Great. Great help. Cheers.
Anytime pal.
I’ve been considering getting into the tabletop side of 40k not just the lore I have been deciding making my first army between Necrons, Salamanders, or Imperial knights I’m probably going to go with imperial knights because well… big mech and the play style, paint systems, and the more affordable overall army price this video helped a lot thanks
That so great to hear pal. Glad you liked it and glad to hear your getting into the game.
Happy new year! I'd love a full video on painting the nights as I've just got a couple for xmas! Would you paint them the same way you painted your Horace Heresy tanks? With the dry brush stippling or would that not really work for these
It would work so well in the panels. You just have to chose if it’s the plates or the trim to be painted fast.
Super tips here mate. Knights are one of the easiest and fastest armies to paint to a high standard IMO. Just did 4 in about 3 weeks. Can do it even faster if you rattle can the body silver then all the sub assembly panels rattle can whatever your main colour is. In my case was yellow. Then just a few black or white panels to break it up and transfers galore.
I 100% agree.
Great video.
A similar one on using an airbrush to paint a knight would be good to watch.
Not a bad idea sir.
I cannot tell you how in love with this colour scheme I am. Thank you! Your videos transform my painting and hobbying. I swear by your Gallowdark scenery approach - have done it for two kits already! PLEASE can you tell us the paints and oils you use for this - Leadbelcher, Screamer Pink and Retributor Gold, right? Anything else? Thank you so so much! And keep going!
Not really now that would pretty much cover it. I’m really happy you enjoyed the video pal.
Merry Christmas Andy, thanks for a year of great videos! What colour is your Knight?
It’s screamer pink for this one. All mine are different.
I’ve painted knights and this is an excellent vid for anybody who’s on their first.
Cheers pal.
Knights are great. They're guaranteed to grab attention on the table, with them being big and awesome looking models.
My only advice beyond all that you said is: go crazy on them! You got tons of large flat panels with tons of room for free handing and unleashing some creativity, they're great platforms for converting into something entirely your own too. And they're of course their own thing. They're not a part of the Guard, or a marine or chapter, or anything like that. So don't paint them like your other dudes. Make them unique and let them stand out even more.
Very true thanks.
Make more of this type of video with assembly and painting hints and tricks..
I can do that for sure.
So, some friends finally talked me into getting into 40K. The downside is I haven't painted anything in almost twenty years. I am really considering Imperial Knights because they're big, with a lot of flat panels and easier details because of size. The 170$ price tag is a bit shocking, but I'd spent more on other stuff.
As a novice painter, one that at least knows a few things to do right, are a couple Knights a good choice, assuming I go with a simple color scheme? I'm not afraid of stripping paint and starting over if I have to, that's just a matter of time and turpentine.
Yep knights are a solid army and three big knights supported by a few small once would be a great force and fun to paint.
my first 40k model was a knight. I had done an AOS army years prior so i assumed it would be easy. I used this really crappy super glue that made a lot of the flat surfaces bumpy, put it all together at the beginning, and broke all the little pipes and ladder rungs on the model. It actually looks good now painted, but i definitely wish i had waited until i was good at assembly.
Ouch. That does not sound fun. Glad it’s all
Fixed now. Such a shame to waste such an expensive model.
"people have a single knight in their collection"
Looks at the 3 painted knights, two armiger's and one dominus class knight plus the two unbuilt ones and the Christmas battleforce I still have in the mail, I guess I am the odd one out.
And yeah, the big knights are all magnetized.
Hahhahaha that’s a nice collection.
I want to paint some house Devine for titanicus and this is the perfect scheme. Pls, tell me what colours you used.
Oh that was a while ago now. Let me think and get back to you.
Hi Andy, great looking knight. I have huge knight collection 15+. I have a new kit and was thinking of painting it as the Amaranthine freeblade like your. Was just wondering what color you went with. Was thinking of screamer pink. What did you use?
You are correct. It is indeed screamer pink.
As a beginner, this is helpful advice. What is the book you are looking at, with the various colour schemes/clans? Cheers:)
Just an old codex nothing special.
@@MediocreHobbies Could you tell me what it's called and from when? I've found a few 1990's titan codex's but they're expensive and scruffy.
Great video! Would you mind telling what did you use to drybrush the trim and which paint is the main red/maroon on the panels?
Screamer pink for the maroon. And just a nice silver over the gold to highlight.
@@MediocreHobbies Thanks! Do you happen to remember paints used for the gold trims?
Would love to know what colours you used!!
Can’t even rent.
What paints did you use to create the purple/red paints work I wanna do my knights in that colour but can't find paint lists anywhere
It’s screamer pink as far as I remember.
I am curious to know what book or codex were you looking at with all the different color schemes for the knights?
It was actually the first edition of the knight codex.
Do you have a copy of the paint scheme for this? I checked the description but couldn't seem to find it.
It wasn’t really about the paint scheme as more about how to tackle painting any knight. It’s mostly screamer pink and gold to be fair.
Wish i have seen this video before i decided to glue my warmaster titan together and now regret that painting its inner parts are a major pain
Ouch. You made that job so much harder.
@@MediocreHobbies i know right. So think i have to spray it black so i can ignore parts of the area i cannot reach hahahah
i even semi-sub assembly Orcs for fantasy 😅 Always been mr semi-sub assembly. gets better results that way
What colours did you use for the purple on the armour here? I was looking to paint my knight in similar colours with a few separate details. It’s just the purples I am unsure about
Emmmm screamer pink i think. I can’t Remember now lol
I know this is old af, but question. What are you using to hold your pieces to the support for while you paint? And where can I find one of those supports?
They are from frontier wargaming. I love them so much.
Anyone know where to get that sub-assembly kit around 1:30 mark?
Frontier wargaming.
1:40 where did you get the tray thingy for sub assemblies
Frontier wargaming. There stuff is amazing.
Which paints did you use?
It’s been quite a while but I believe screamer pink was the main colour.
What colours did you use for the panels? The model looks goregous
Screamer pink I believe. As this wasn’t meant to be a painting video I can’t really remember. My bad.
@@MediocreHobbies aha all good man cheers
Sorry if I've missed it somewhere but what's the base colours for the trim and the armour panels?
It wasn’t a painting video. More a tip video. The paints were retributer gold and screamer pink.
@@MediocreHobbies cheers, appreciated
Will you be doing a knight painting tutorial?
I will indeed at some point not sure what house yet though.
Please do! This is amazing - you have inspired me to take it from Shame to Painted!
I’m thinking about adding a Knight to my army. Do I essentially just need one?
Yep. Everybody needs a knight in there live.
thankfully i knew to do sub assembly from the get go, HOWEVER i was then stupid enough to spray paint my 2 first knights with metal colors instead of doing the smart thing and basing it black and painting on the metal, DONT do what i did lol its a pain in the ass to figure out if you have covered it in the right amount of metal colors or if you missed a bunch on it.
Ye I did the same with my first knight. It was a nightmare.
Where can I find that book
It’s just there old army book.
Can this tips help with Titans???
100%
You don't even need the magnetize the main weapons just build them then don't glue in place that's how I've done mine and I have them in such a way that the little Pistons still move and everything if you change position of the guns and then you can just pop it off and put a different arm although that won't have the Pistons because one end is glued to the main weapons of choice yes but nights don't really need magnets is my point not for the arms
Very true.
Wait im about to build a Chaos Knight Abominant which has all the parts to alternatively build a knight desecrator or knight rampager. Are you telling me without a magnet kit i can swap out the abominants volkite combustor and electroscourge for warp talons and reaper chain talon?
One minute in the video just to realize I already lost
Hahahaa
I’m watching the video cigarette in hand thinking well damn ain’t I glad I had some restraint
cant wait for the lamenters probably sometime around jan 10 (bday) hint hint
Hahaha you will be waiting a while pal.
@@MediocreHobbies then a while i will wait
too late, this video only appeared in my recommendations after i was finished with ome amd halfway through with another.
Hahaha Damit
Wait I was told you don't need to match color of house be be house
You don’t really there you models so you can do what you like with them.
@Mediocre Hobbies but I can still compete with custom paints, right? For example, my colors don't align with any household, but I want them to be mechanicis. Am I able to do that without any of their household symbols?
@@THEGREATMOLINA you are indeed.
