Pro tip, if you want to paint white armour use instead Ulthuan Grey (or a very light grey). The coverage is a million times better and it looks a lot more realistic than flat white.
The white can be used for accent highlights in small places.

Damn fantastic. I have been painting 4 knights over the past year or so...don’t get enough time....a few things I have found. I use the Citadel gem paints for my lenses etc. On the nurgle Knight I based coated the lens with a fluorescent green, the used the gem paint. It’s eyes not glow user UV.. I’m also using the fluorescent paint on seams etc to simulate a growing corruption inside.I also found using a second more specific dry brush of a different metal colour (brass, gold) on large metal pieces breaks up the look and gives the impression of different materials ..I know obvious. But these do extend the time..see above...and increases cost/range. Some day these will be done, some day

if you can't be bothered with multiple coats of white, you can use a grey or brown intermediate layer between the black and the white - it's dark enough that you won't see the black basecoat, but light enough that the white should cover it without too much trouble. Same trick works with painting yellow

to better do decals, or "transfers", do a super smooth gloss coat to the area first. a lot of military modelers use future for wax since it's a super shiny acrylic. it will help not just with placing the decal, but also keep from getting a "silver" edge from the transparent areas of the decal. seal it with the gloss clear after it dries, then matte coat and weather as usual.

@Midwinter Minis - Quick tip for resin printing - download Prusa slicer and set it up for their resin printer and adjust the bed size to suit. Import your models and allow the program to auto add supports. Now export the build plate as an STL file including supports. Open and place the resulting file in your normal slicer and slice - DO NOT ADD SUPPORTS. Copy to the printer and hit go.
All my prints before this method used to fail 60% of the time, with this method over 300 successful prints with only 1 fail.

  • @jasonnewman3355

You could really elevate this a lot by just picking out some trim in a dark bronze. It's a little too uniformly white, probably another thirty minutes of work would make a fairly large difference.

If you want to write on different surfaces I highly recommend a cheap calligraphy dip pen. They can be had for a few bucks at any art store. The benefit is you can load them with whatever ink you like, even model paints. The ink in that store bought pen isn't compatible with non-porous surfaces, it needs to absorb into paper to fully dry. Awesome paint job!

Mechs are so great to customize. I just kitbashed a Maelstrom's Edge Epirian Hunter without any plan to do so, using the optional spare parts from the imperial cerastus knights, the deathwatch killteam and a tech dominus, as my very first kitbash.
