    I've taken a low budget approach for my lenses that I use with the 6D and 5Ds. I love the Canon 24-105 f/4L IS version I, 70-200 f/4L, 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS version I, 35f/2 IS which should be an L lens, it's that good, 85 f/1.8 USM and Tamron 45 f/1.8 VC and Tamron 90 f/2.8 VC Macro. Both of the Tamron lenses are incredible and the auto focus on the 90 macro is fast unlike the Canon 100 f/2.8 L IS that I've borrowed in the past. I also have a 17-40 f/4L, it's reasonably sharp on both of my cameras but on the 5Ds the corners are soft until I get to f/8 so I'm looking to replace it with as used Tokina 16-28 f/2.8 which I've borrowed from time to time from a friend who uses it on his 5DsR and it's surprisingly good even in the corners and cost about $300.00 used in the US. I'm an old man at 66 and have no plans for mirrorless because mirrorless is expensive and it won't make me a better photographer!

    • @nikonmark37814
      @nikonmark37814 7 месяцев назад

      I use it mostly at the 400 end for backyard birding but recently picked up a 300 f/4 L IS and it and the Canon 1.4 TC have become my preferred choice for that endeavor so the 100-400 may be getting sold. The lens is sharp using it with my 7DII or 6D. @@BEDIANSPINS

    Agreed. Every fotographer needs to have a normal zoom lens. I own three:
    * EF24-70/2.8II L
    * RF24-105/4 L
    * EF-M 15-45IS.
    Only noobs think that a lens with Macro capability is only for Macro. The 100L is one of those lenses with very special rendering, sharp and constrasty. The IS is good for three-stops.
    The EF35L II? I am waiting for the RF35/1.2L

    f/4 gives already plenty of background blur on a full frame. it is all about the distance to the subject (camera and background). with the right settings and composition, you can make subject separation with a f/5.6 kit lens on micro fourth third too.
    let's not be obsessed with numbers and bokeh balls ;)

      So true man! The 70-200 is one of those lenses that jsut can't be replaced. I would say the RF version is 100% better in almost every aspect except for manual focusing and balancing weight on the setup. I've shot with that lens in the rain and nothing happened to it

    Thanks.
    I have the 90D and the SL2 (200D).
    Too bad Canon did give more fast lens options for the EF-S mount, like the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM.
    Canon did not even offer a 2.8 trinity lenses for the EF-S mount. You have to use the FF version, means bigger and more expensive. Too late, Canon seems is only putting money and RD on the RF system now.
    What do you suggest for EF-S mount or the 90D?

    I suggest the Canon 16-35 F2.8L II, 80-200 F2.8L and the 50mm F2.5 Macro. This is obviously a very budget setup.
    The 80-200 is nearly just as good as the newer 70-200, at like half the price. If you never used a L lens before, this old magic drainpipe will teach you what magic is.
    The 50mm macro is a cheap replacement for the whole 24-70 or 24-105 L line, because it is that sharp. Just take a step backward or take a step forward, zoom with your feet. It even replaced the 100mm macro lens, if you get the life-size converter. Super light to carry around in your backpack, so this is the ideal spare lens. The downside is that its autofocus is quite loud, so it isn't the best for video.
    The 16-35 II is there for ultra wide angles. All lens in this range isn't there for the best image quality. It is simply that when you need an ultra-wide you have one. You can skip this lens until later. With the 50mm, you can do panorama shots for sceneries instead of buying this lens.

    I also own the EF L 50MM and 85 1.2, but I was shocked to see Canon USA start to price gouge on the majority of their premium EF L glass. Sony GM and Nikon Premium glass prices have not increased $hundreds per lens during 2021 so it must not be a "chip shortage issue." Must be a Canon strategy to force customers to invest in their plastic RF line...just my humble opinion.

    • @samguw
      @samguw  2 года назад +1

      Ah I'm not too sure about the market in the US. But here, brand new EF glass has not dropped price in anyway. I mostly get lenses used anyways as the second hand market has a lot of great value. Brand new... not so much

    Note: I ordered and paid for this this lens (Canon RF 100mm Macro Lens) almost a year ago now and understand that I had to wait 6-months to get this lens but I still don't have the "Tripod Mount Ring and Adapter" yet and Canon has refused to comment to B&H for an update. I believe that to be unacceptable customer service and therefore can't recommend "Canon equipment" to anyone.
