- This is one of my favourite scenes in the film. The music is brilliant and perfectly underscores the scene and the War Machine just flies in for a one of a kind de-brief. Ignore the mouse cursor, by the time I noticed I couldn't be bothered changing it. Although with such a great scene it shouldn't matter.

Tony had J.A.R.V.i.S. activate the self-destruct sequence on this suit along with the Mark 1, Mark III, Mark IV, Mark V, Mark VI, & Mark VII to prevent the Mandarin and A.i.M. from taking control of his tech.

To all those saying Tony let Rhodes take the suit: yes, he did, but Rhodes didn't know that. So Rhodes stealing the suit and handing it over to the military was still illegal because it's technically Tony's private property.
Tony couldve done any number of things to stop Rhodes from operating the suit, but he didn't. In fact, Nick stated that the failsafes he installed specifically allowed Rhodey to operate the suit and nobody else.

@@archerverse13 The military probably stripped out the fail safes while upgrading the suit. Probably respected Rhodey enough to let him keep it and use it, but didn't want it stuck to only him incase they needed to take it back or something happened to him. A fail safe, if you will, to keep it in U.S. employ.
Tony let Rhodes take the suit becouse he was dying, he was kinda mad he grabbed it in the first place but after looking at him leaving he just let him go as self pity if you may say so becouse far down he knew all the shit he did was wrong.
Also we forget that he's one of the 3 people that are actually allowed near the armor enough to use (Other 2 being Pepper and Tony himself). He always had access even since Iron Man 1

Yeh in the first movie tony struggled to take the suit off with his machines and he designed it, I don't know how the military managed to get Rhodes out that thing.
Tony essentially allowed Rhodes to leave with the suit. It was noted he had a bunch of fail-safes to prevent theft of them and if he wanted to, could have shut the suit down before even fighting Rhodes at all.
Also something important to note is that Stark originally wanted Rhodes as part of his Iron Man work in the first film. I have no doubt he wanted Rhodey to be the original pilot or at least his partner. So it stands to reason in this film where Tony believes he's dying, he'd let Rhodey go with a suit in the hopes that he could continue on after Tony dies
Tony wouldn't even need to build in failsafes. The suits were originally built to his measurements, and since metal isn't flexible, that means only someone with Tony's exact measurements could wear it. I _do_ mean exact: even if Rhodey could physically fit in the suit, if the joints in the suit don't line up with the corresponding joints in Rhodey's body, the suit could injure him.

No each suit is estimated to be about 40 to 60 million dollars, depending on what modifications he gives the suits. The Hulk Buster would be closer to 100 million

Smart move by Tony to concede a suit over to Rhodey who actively works in the US government. In the long run I’m sure this saved him a shit load of hassle especially because it’s implied and shown in iron man 3 that Rhodey is constantly going on missions in his iron patriot suit. Which is something that Tony definitely wouldn’t be bothered to do unless it was an avengers level threat.
The movie never explained if Stark actually trained Rhodes on how to use the Iron Man suit. He just put it on and very quickly mastered it. I was very surprised Stark let the whole thing slide, his best buddy just sold him out to the government without any type of serious repercussions.

360whiplash they explain in the movie that tony has security protocols in place to prevent just anyone using their suit during the scene at the donut shop. That’s why tony stays silent when fury shuts down the argument that rhodey just steals it. I’m sure it’s inferred that he got training since Rhodes is one of the better pilots in the AF and since the suit is configured to his biometrics to work

Not to mention back in the first movie Tony actually wanted Rhodey rather than himself to be the initial test pilot for the suits since he was, y'know...an actual accomplished test pilot(among other things). Tony himself was not a pilot. He only reconsidered and did it himself when his attempt to feel out Rhodey on if he'd be agreeable to it didn't turn out so well.

Except that Tony was basically giving it to him. The suit wouldn’t have worked if anyone else other than Tony, Rhodes, or maybe Pepper (though I doubt it this early on) would not have been able to wear it.
Fury even noted how the suit had so many failsafes no one just comes in and takes the suit without his permission he kinda just didnt care to stop him after he beat him in a fight
@@Mgl1206 I think people forget that Tony was drunk that night and likely passed out on the couch while Rhodes was flying to the base. So no not really...Tony didn't give Rhodes the suit, he stole it. Jarvis probably realized that those failsafes could kill Rhodes and anticipated that Tony wouldn't have liked that so more than likely Jarvis disabled those failsafes.
@@luminatrixfanfiction the failsafes would have just disabled the suit and stunned whoever tries to steal it. It won’t kill them (most likely) as then they can be taking in for questioning. ALSO Tony was dying he needed someone to take up the mantle and Tony only have 3 people he could trust. Pepper, Happy, and Rhodes in addition Natasha along with Fury later on stated that the suits were only able to be used by those who were allowed. Also JARVIS is in the end still an AI, someone stealing his suit (even Rhodes) might pose a threat to Tony so he wouldn’t have held back from shutting down the suit. So the only possibility is that Tony was allowing Rhodes to take away the suit.

I LOVE hearing the hydraulics howling as the older suits moved. The newer movies were nice, but the old suits felt like they had heft.
They certainly could take a beating. The nanotechnology one was more of an ablative thing. You could eventually just wear it away if you worked at it hard enough.

Tony actually have a self-destruct system installed in all of his suit when held to the wrong ones.
Obviously he will not do that to Rhodey but he could also tell JARVIS to lets say, "Deactivate The Suit" for security measures.
I'm pretty sure he has that installed as well.

The hanger @ the very back @ the end of the scene i where my brother works. It's called the Benefield Anechoic Facilty (BAF). He was able to give my family a tour of his work. Basically it's mostly empty hangers filled with RAM it stands for a radar absorbent material. It also means it absorbs sound waves. So when you're talking in the chamber your voice doesn't echo. its really weird. an example is if someone was having a conversation on the other side of the hanger, you can hear every word they say plain as day. The hanger has these machines that shoot out radar frequencies and aircraft to see how their instruments respond while in the hangar. it was quite a tour. However if I knew any more than that, I'd be dead.

and here i am wondering what the hell is a b-2 bomber doing parking outside a hangar bay so awkwardly positioned beside a f-22 raptor
They staged all the aircraft over the weekend more or less like an airshow display, we began filming on a Monday. They had to post guards around the stealth of course because they're 99.9% kept in a hangar as you observed. Was just eye candy for the movie.
it's also perhaps possible that such aircraft would be staged at Edwards Air Force Base for First Response in the event of potential global conflict
we actually keep it there for continued testing and improvements

He stood in place for hours and likely pissed himself while engineers picked and prodded at it, cobbled together the necessary tools, and safely removed it.

If I were Tony I would have made it so the external reactor (the one embedded in the suit) either only provides power if linked with Tony's chest reactor, or with special permission, because as far as I know anyone can just hop in a suit and that seems like a huge oversight.
Nah no one can just hop in the suit and fly off with it. Black widow said later in the movie that there are safeguards in place to prevent unauthorized usage. And if worst comes to worst he can always just ask jarvis to blow the suit up like he did in iron man 3.
Also if you are not the correct hieght or body type the suit can injurre you

I always hated how Rhodes just came in there, stole that shit and gave it to the government. I would stop being friends with Rhodes from them on and I would destroy the suit he stole. I noticed ever since he stole that shit, he thinks he is entitled to take one Tony's suits whenever. Just check the final battle in Iron Man 3.

Michael McCarthy Think after Whiplash showed up and Tony getting drunk at the party, he decided that Tony isn't fit to handle the suits anymore so he had to take it. Makes sense in a military mind
I am more just upset that he doesn't even act grateful that Tony gave him the suit. In Iron Man 3 for example when all the suits showed up Rhodes was just like cool give me one. He could be a little more grateful that he is the only person Tony has just let him have his suit.

What’s really cool about this scene is that my grandpa served at this Air Force base! I believe he served for twenty years in the Air Force, but I don’t know if he was just at the Edwards Air Force Base the whole time.

there are some canon to the MCU Comics that can be found on the internet that explain what missions Rhodey was doing during the time after Iron Man 2 and into The Avengers. He was taking down the fake 10 rings soldiers while The OG Avengers was fighting Loki's Army..

The military base likely didn't know how he got it. They just assumed Tony gave his best friend a suit

First of Tony was building a second prototype. Learning how to work a prototype takes time. Once he worked out all the kinks he likely eventually made later suits to be intuitive, maybe even improve the Mark II to be intuitive as well.
