I just bought one and really like it. To be a small vehicle it has a lot of space, is plenty peppy enough for me, and is very stable on the interstate.
Great review, Nolan!!! You did a stellar job reviewing the 2019 HR-V. I really like the updates that Honda made... Especially on this Sport trim level. As always, keep up the great work, Nolan! Your reviews are very informative and detailed.
❤️ the HONDA HR-V & CR-V , but will probably go with the HR-V.... I have looked at too much over the last year & decided this is going to be it & pricing on this vehicle is👍🏼
It's already a big seller for its practicality and mpg. People don't buy these thinking they are sportscars, but I am not disappointed when I accelerate this nonsportscar. You have to drive in S mode with eco off. Not bad for my 0-60 test that beat the official one: ruclips.net/video/y0mR9EB4cFs/видео.html
My ones hybrid HRV, it has a higher horsepower (159). But I had to get a reconditioned one from Japan as they don't sell the hybrid models brand new abroad.
Nolan, I will be buying an HRV EX with AWD. I live in New England and I need something for the snow. Your review sold me on this vehicle. Thank you so much for your review.
Dunno if you guys cares but if you're bored like me during the covid times you can stream all the new movies on InstaFlixxer. Been binge watching with my gf these days :)
I have the EX model. I noticed the interior lights are lacking. The passenger side door controls are not lit. The cup holders don't light up. No lights in the door wells. And the cargo area light is manual, it should light up automatically when the door is lifted
Honda cutting cost by eliminating power door locks for front passenger and not a fan of the cheap door cloth material. Need a larger center storage as mentioned by Nolan. Otherwise the HR-V is a good compact size with lots of room for people and cargo.
I do appreciate the upgrades Honda made to this car, especially considering what the first gen was, reminded me of the first Nissan Versa I owed, damn thing was a deathtrap on wheels!! I think it'll be interesting to see how that gloss black trim holds up over time, especially over the wheel wheels. Anyways, I feel it is now a definite contender of the similar vehicles that share in it's line-up.
In the USA people cry that the 1.8 gasoline 141 hp engine is not enough power. I drove the car a few times and think the power is fine though. But I would like to see the Civic 1.5 turbo engine offered as an option, and they should give it at least a 2000 lbs tow rating too.
Thanks this video helped me so much I want a crossover and I don’t want to spend a lot of money on a new vehicle but it’s time for something new,I’m a Toyota girl but I really like this Honda Hr-v
Glad it was helpful! The HRV is nicely done and super practical. I’ve driven the CHR and although it’ll probably be typical reliable Toyota I think this HRV is a better value for its space and practicality. If you wanna stick with Toyota maaaaybe look into what price you can get into a Rav4 cuz those are pretty impressive
I finally took one for a test drive . I could have lived with the sluggish movement from being stopped to 35-40 mph city street speed but the price is nutty for what you get . My dealer equalled the price on an lx awd crv to what the lx awd hrv is ; thats how nutty the price is for an hrv in my country - canada .Granted , they have 40+ crv's on the lot and just 8 hrv's . He said the 1.5 turbo will be in the HRV is some form starting in 2021 in north america . To any rookie drivers out there please be careful when trying to pass trucks on single lane highways . Get to know the hrv's strengths and limitations when it comes to passing . If your a chill driver and can just be happy staying behind trucks at 60 mph then your going to be fine .
The EX has Honda Sensing standard 👍 The touring will add LED headlights, bigger wheels, heated leather power adjusting seats (heated cloth with manual adjustment on EX) The EX-L sits between EX and Touring that gives you leather seats as well. If you go to Honda’s site...find the “compare trims and specs” section on the HR-V page you can see all of the exact differences between the two
You worked really hard for this review so that's appreciated. For me personally, it doesn't feel like a critical review, but more like a commercial for a vehicle. I feel it's important to highlight both the benefits and the disadvantages, especially with other similar cars. You did some of that, but very little. You are smart, know lots about cars, don't hold back. Great camera work, especially shooting the headlights that didn't flicker.
Thank you! You’re 100% right and I was thinking about that. Lately I’ve been able to get “press cars” from manufacturers, where I am usually a little more critical and since this was from a dealer (they out th video on their website) I don’t get very critical and more so “show it tour” the vehicle. I need to be even across all reviews so I’m sorry about that! My most critical points for this car would be: the ride comfort felt more harsh than it should be...I noticed it more going back and watching because of how it affected my microphone. Also, the powertrain felt/sounded kind of unrefined when the RPMs got high, I wish it had another engine option.
Thanks Jonathan! I always appreciate your support. The bummer is that for the dealer videos I don’t get enough time with them for a 5 likes/Dislikes video ☹️
Can you confirm this sport model having the 6 speakers instead of 4? every local honda dealer i go to says the sticker price its 4 speakers, not the 180-watt 6 speaker setup
In Honda’s it shows the LX with 4 speaker but Sport with 6 speaker 180 watt. When in the HRV page, click in “compare trims and specs” then select Sport trim to compare...it’s under the audio and connectivity area - automobiles.honda.com/hr-v#
This new refresh has my attention. Was leaning towards this or the Kona. The HRV looks better, better gas mileage, and more space for the money. Kona has just a little more pep in it but I've seen these HRVs everywhere and they zip around in the city and on the freeway once they get up to speed. They're just slow pulling from a stop.
I like the refresh too! Good points on the Kona vs HRV. Both are pretty practical but the HRV all around offers more in those aspects like you said. Thanks for watching!
Ok, I’m picky....Sport in Pearl White. Give me a manual tranny, LED head lamps, a sun roof, Honda Sensing, and move the rear door handle down to where it belongs. It would be a great little SUV then! But really...I do like the changes they made for 2019 and I really think the gloss black trim looks good. Great review man!
I’m thinking of buying this car. I’m leaning towards the EX trim since I feel it’s a good balance of price and premium features. If I do buy it, I’ll be replacing the halogen bulbs with LEDs for sure.
actually the sport model does not have 180 watt 6 speaker system even though it says on the Honda website that its standard on the sport and up models called Honda and they told me they where sorry and they couldn't do anything about it
I’m curious how the Kona turns out. The power difference is noticeable. I tested the Kona and it had a couple small rattles, which might be a fluke since it was a press vehicle, but otherwise it felt very solid

Great review! Sadly this feels too much like a larger Honda Fit in terms of material quality through the cabin. The overall look in the interior just doesn’t compare to the other Honda products that are coming out, it screams cost cutting. I feel like this was just a refresh for the Honda purists, I don’t understand why people would choose this over similar priced offerings, unless it was deeply discounted, and Honda doesn’t discount much if any. Also.. the same rear tail lights is kind of a shame. They looked “ok” at best when it came out, now it looks stuck in the past. Rear incandescent bulb turn signals plague all the Hondas, even Acura, what’s up with that. Sorry about my harsh criticism I just know Honda could do better. This segment is really competitive ; they need civic and accord interior DNA in here.
Thanks man! All well said too. When I read that it has LED brake lights, I was expecting something different and those darn turn signals lol but nope. And I agree with you, Interior deserves to look better and there’s no reason Honda can’t upgrade more than this. Like you said it bugs me that Honda rarely discounts anything... Love hearing your input!
This is only the refresh, not a complete remodel. The HRV is taller and better looking than the Fit and has more interior space while being smaller than the CRV for better city parking. Each person is different, so I can tell you're very picky, but I'm satisfied with what it really is.
