Could you run both front and rear channels bridged to a single sub for max output?
@@Chagrin223yes if it’s a DVC 4
@@91lrrrc one channel to each coil?
@@Chagrin223 not one channel but one pair of channels (as we are talking bridged) per voice coil yes. Gain should be set to match the pair of channels with least output. This way its same power on each coil and it’s not clipping on one pair of channels when another is clean. The slight difference in power tho on a coils wrapped around same former really shouldn’t be a big deal but it’s best to do it correctly anyways. Would be good idea to use RCA cable splitters into front and rear channels if there is any chance of hitting fader control on source unit.
@@Chagrin223 that's what I did at 8:19
i can actually see this being a viable solution for installing in diy arcade cabs.
I bought this a month ago when it had 0 reviews for $39.99! I’m blown away at how it makes my semi truck bump. I run my highs from it
Probably should be 20 bucks
@@peterjaimes8776 ive got one of those $20 amplifiers, they do maybe 25w and start clipping…
So your highs bump? Got it
@@vegaslimoguy2376 very budget system… 4 5.25” mids, 4 tweeters, 15” sub on a swap meet crunch doing MAYBE 300W, plus this amp bumping the highs
And a nice little KGC-4042A if you know what that is 😁
50 bucks is awesome. I'd love to see how these cheaper amps do like a year later being used in a daily. Love your content, D!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
It really puts into perspective how bullshit amps are that cost 100x fold it is cheap refined tech.
There’s an idea
@@wal Just wondering if it still works... For the price, if it lasts at least 24 months, I would buy 2 of 'em!
@@billmcginley I've got a $10 Kinter amp which has taken a beating for 10 or more years,
I looked at this on Amazon after watching your video earlier today. It was $49.95. Now just a few hours later it’s gone up $10.
Yup, $60 now
Its amazing how cheap and good amps have become, I bought a 100 dollar 1200 watt Jensen amp from Walmart, and I been bumping it full capacity for months and it hasn’t let me down, and it has a 3 year warranty. Like what?!
Oh yeah and it has bluetooth settings and led lighting.
Love seeing dynos on super budget amps, thank you! It's a tremendous resource for the community.
Amazing, ultimate work truck amp! Now I can start adding Savard subs to my fleet 😂 The size reminds me of the paperback Sony 2-channel that everyone was running their tweets with in the late 80s, maybe 20 watts per? Can't remember.
I know this is off topic but I went with your recommendation on the Dual Wal-Mart $24 stereo. Paired with a set of $36 CT Sounds BIO 5.25" coaxs from Amazon, it floored me how clean & loud it plays in my rollback. Plays Steely Dan perfectly at 35 on the volume, bass set at 5, treble at 7. Absolutely no muddiness & plenty loud enough to cut thru the noise of the truck. Shockingly good sounding for $60!
You're the best Big D! 👍
that amp ic is 100% a TPA3255 , the power , the board layout screams tpa3255. they are running it at lower voltage or the powersupply is weak because it should do 250w ch at 4ohm with +- 50v
Are you saying if one were to wire in a voltage booster inline with this amps power input, it would enhance it, that is, if there is no onboard ciruitry blocking it from working?
@@mattliston1215no, internally the rail voltage is operating lower than the maximum rated by the tpa3255. It would not be easy.
@@mattliston1215 you would have to bypass the internal power supply , they are limiting the power to keep the heat down as it would cost a lot more to keep such a tiny chip cool when it dissipates 30-40w while making close to 300w per channel. that would require a heatpipe and finned copper cooler.
actually i do have an amplifier with 3255ic and OH man.... that thing at 50V banging like crazy. Technically it is 600W mono IC but in the real world, you can aspecting it more likely to be around 400 BECAUSE, i do have a subwoofer as well rated at 500W RMS and after playing like decaf or rebassed songs, i can't smell it. I tryed even 400W subwoofer and also no smell so there's 2 options... they are good ventilated, good made or the 3255ic can't do much to start them to smell.. but anyways, really good ic, for the price, the best. My amp is mixture of one tpa3255 for the bass and two TPA3221 which gives you 4 channels, 100W for each one or two channels 200W each, you can bridge them. That amplifier has internal DCDC buck converter because supply voltage is 51V and those two tpa3221 can not handle more than 30. For the indoor or outdoor usage, excellent.
@@samohraje2433 not just voltage. There are many factors effecting total clean power output. Most chinese boards are poorly designed they copy and paste the typical application diagram while swaping components to reduce cost and do not follow all the datasheet rules. Even though the chip can provide 600w at 10% thd pbtl with i think 2ohm load. It will not produce that power with a poorly designed board with thin traces, cheap capacitors , and simply not enough capacitors.
Very cool . good power for small size and small price . I think these companies would be better off under rating the amp , so when big d dynos it , you will feel better about your purchase if it does more power than they said . Thanks for the video.
I’d rather they just rate them accurately. At least this one was decently close compared to the ones that claim like 10x the power they really do.
Great video. I just bought it before the price goes up like it usualy does on an amp after you make a video.
Sorry about that. Best way around this is to be a Patreon supporter so you can see the videos early and decide if you want to buy or not before the public gets wind. Patreon.com/OldSchoolStereo 👌
These guys should give Savard a kick back for making their product look good.
I think savard should give soundfy a kickback for impressing big D
SAVARD don't need anything but a bald guy to make their product look good 😊
You mean savard should give him kick back?
Savard makes excellent speakers. I won a crank em up contest in 86 with a pair of Savard Hi Q subs. I tortured those subs for years and they held up without the magic smoke. Lol
Still can’t make them Subwoofers look good.
These things are getting smaller and smaller. I still have an old Kenwood 25x4 that's HUGE by comparison. I recently bought the SounDigital 400.4 for $79 shipped but haven't installed it yet. It was factory sealed but missing the allen wrench and the hi-level harness but I didn't need either one so I kept it. It uses an 80hz fixed crossover vs 90hz on the Soundfy, and it has 8 speaker connections vs 6. But it doesn't have a fuse on it like the 25 amp fuse on the Soundfy. The SounDigital relies on a suggested 20 amp fuse on the power wire. Not too sure about that as it seems kind of small. But I like the small size so I can mount it near the head unit and won't have to run so many wires all up and down the interior! It will be pushing 4 Cerwin Vega V468"s in my 2002 Explorer.
Right now 11/20/24 these are $60 on Amazon and for 2 channels of 300 plus watts at 4ohms that can fit into your hand...I say that is a pretty good deal. Think I'll get 2. One for two 6.5" Skar subs and one for a 5.25" mid and tweeter component set in the doors.
its most likely a TPA3255 chip they are in the 80w/ch ballpark and deliver really good sound if implemented properly beating many of high end high priced amps out there in terms of thd and noise
It's nice to see that Derek hasn't deviated too much from where he started, back when he wouldn't shy away from testing and showing an array of brand's and product's. Resisting giving in to corruption, persuasion, bias and rat packing is the right way to do it.
i had a 12" savard hi-q in a bandpass box back in like 96. best sounding sub i ever owned! love their stuff.
Two of these in three channel mode a passive under seat sub or a slim little truck box on the cheap you could have the rear views trembling for under 200...
Is it because the default low pass is on which automatically engages the low boost at 45hz making it appear much more powerful than it really is? Usually you test things for us with all boost settings at zero. ❤❤
Looks like a good option to run my tweeters. I have a 4 channel running 4 6.5s and 2 tweeters and want to get a DSP so need 2 more channels.
Great video, at that price, it is tough to complain.
I do not like when amps do not allow you to override boost settings
SOUNDFY is spectacular NICE!
says 4x100 watts rms but if the fuse is rated at 25a and typical vehicle running voltage is about 14.3 volts its only capable of doing about 340 watts rms at most, anything higher and you might blow the fuse, but still might impressive for such a small amp! i been thinking of upgrading the speakers in my car and this might just make me do it.
$72.65 In the UK on amazon. We get ripped of left right and centre over here. And that's at $1.27 to the £1. I could get a taramps for the same price.
Sounds like y'all need to off the grifters doing the skimming!!! 😉
Awesome little amp. Where were these great prices during the 80's and 90's Big D ? We had to get a second mortgage to pay for this kind of power back then. Lol. Great video Big D.
You always make the best videos I'm curious of what the new Alpine amps would do on the dyno
I'd like to see that amp on the kicker quad box! Pretty good amp for the money
Very impressed little joker..
At the end of the video you should " push it till it smokes " . Find out what happens if you push it hard for an hour or two. See how long it will push that 6 inch sub. Oh the fuse keeps blowing . Well do what a lot of people would do and that's put in a higher amp fuse and keep pushing it hard.
I agree with this because we all know it will be abused and THAT is what I am interested in.
@8:24 - I have a pair of older Bose 2.2 bookshelf speakers and this sub box really matches the looks of them. I'd buy one if they were sold.
I've been thinking that for days. Cabinet style matches the looks of Bose 301 series II or III
It may be a gately audio box not sure
That is great for its size even sounds good ,It reminds me of the tiny sanyo 15 watt per channel amp i had many years ago at the time that was suprising for how loud it would power 2 speakers .
Even at the unattained advertised watts, with the efficiency rate high still gives it a big thumbs up...
Out of all the micro amps that you’ve tested which one is your favorite?
If you’ve already done it let me know but if you haven’t, would you consider making a series on building a micro sound system using stuff like this? I have a regular cab chop top mini truck so space is almost non existent and would love to know what I could use to have a decent set up with serious space constraints.
I used to run a lanzar opti 200 would love to see it on the Dino!!!!
Savard has always been BANGIN!!! That nano amp is quite impressive....
Now that's impressive because i've seen bigger amps struggle to push that Savard!
D your videos got it going on. Hey its a dark world outside of passion. Stay in it. Good job!
Cool videos.
I was wondering if you could do an Audiopipe APNK40001 Amplifier? I love these amps and would like to see what their real output is. Thanks!
Thanks for the suggestion 👌
The chip is tpa3255
The model is written on the black spots on the left or right side of the chip
You must clean well to see the model
Like if i am correct
I would like to know how long the tiny amps will run a sub before melting down. I would also like to know on some of the low dollar amps, what parts could be upgraded in the amp without making it cost the same as an expensive amp
building an apache 4800 box with 2 8 inch kicker marine speakers and a kicker marine gauge style radio will this work with this set up
The appearance of the chip and the circuit board layout says to me that its a TPA3255. Given the test results they might be rating it by peak power draw and not RMS output. It looks like there is a voltage boost circuit on the power input side of the board. I wonder if the voltage is actually boosted all the way to 48v? idk, it could be current limiting in the chip, too.
I love the cheap product reviews especially when they're tiny!
Sounds like it might be a decent buy. Especially for something that is 4 channel and just rocks that sub. WOW.
Fosi and Aiyima are pushing great amp tech 😎👌🏽
The grey boxes are inductors not resistors @bigD.
I already have Soundfy, I really like it, it's perfect and excellent value for money
Do you still have the Kicker Quad Box? It would have been interesting to see that 4-channel amp try and bump dat. :D
I have a question. Why are some of these tests not translating to the real world?
For example, the fosi v3 in stereo had issues handling dayton bst-300 shakers and kept cutting out the audio.
Same for the aiyima 07 max.
Running the 07 max in mono it was able to work fine.
I even tested with the 48v 5a.
Is there a way to make the test more demanding/realistic?
Thanks
I would not use the Fosi V3 for subs or bass shakers. I also wouldn't use this amp powering subs, but showing it is possible.
Sounds like the perfect amp for my 06 miata.
Would love too see you do a small series were u put all these cheap amps into a cheap car n see what u can come up with and see how loud it can go , Thank you for another awsome video
It makes about the same numbers as my sony dsx-gs80 . it seems to be a norm lately with the mini amps,45w rms @4ohm,88w rms@2ohm
great video man that tiny thing really did move that sub
Well how much more would it cost with the same specs?
So its a cheap cost alternativ.
Could you make a cheap Review of a 4/6 channel Dsp with output 35-70rms @4/2 Ohm.
Or better buy a dsp standalone?
I have a 1600.1 soundigital 2ohm.
What would you recommend?
Now $59.99 @ Amazon. I have seen them do this before. An item gets a YT video and the price skyrockets. Amazon must detect demand spikes that trigger a price increase.
I’m sure they do adjust pricing based on demand and supply
Hey Big.D. Any chances to dyno Kenwoods xr series amps? Ive seen some...but be cool if you dynoed. Its because you push amps a little bit more. You know what I sayn. Cool vid. Thanks👍
Be a perfect Amp for a motorcycle system or for some good tweeters in a big car audio system
looks the same IC that the taramps head unit was using :)
Really? Oh man!
Now I want one lol.. two.. one for a quick car audio build setup and one for home use..
For the price, I would run tweets or midrange since you don't need 100 watts on a tweeter and 50 watts is enough for midrange. I only run 50 watts on my stereo Integrity M3 Carbon midrange
Thinking of running a dual 2ohm sub off one of these...better to wire 4ohm and bridge or run each 2ohm coil from a channel each?
Love budget gems
good for door speakers, but not for subs..... Would use this for an aftermarket setup that allows multiple RCA's and more media rather than power from the headunit itself. Like the Android radios from amazon.
Is effiency the same at max power vs middle. You test the max, power an amp can do, great, is an amplifier more efficient at less volume at the same ohm rating? I'm sure this is a stupid question considering ohms resistance jumps around when a sub is playing. Thanks
How did you wire for the subwoofer? Was it one channel or did you bridge both? I really like when you how you wire it up for each test.
Bridged 2 ohms x 2
How do I hook this up ? To my truck 2003 duramax? Crew cab? He’s powering the high mids and lows on this amp ?? It’s bumping ???!!
Have you ever tried this hidden gem: Dayton Audio dsp-lf?
Just stumbled over it, and i must say it blew my mind!!
Greetings from a huge fan in Norway 🎉
When will you start doing low profile subwoofers for truck guys with no room like 06 f350 sd super crew
So the sub was being pushed, by the 1 channel bridged at 4 Ohms or 2 ? Thx big dogg.
that amplifier chip is either a TPA3251 or TPA3255
I'm a bit disappointed you couldn't have simply cleaned off the thermal paste to show us for sure but I'm confident it's one of the 2 most likely the 3255 judging by the 50v caps however the boost circuitry is probably not powerful enough to drive the chip to it's full potential.
I’m trying to power this with an external server charger that’s adjustable. What voltage do you recommend and how many amps? Any help is massively appreciated.
I have been watching yiu channel for the old school amp dynos, any thoughts on Critical Mass products? I have a few pieces, some have really been expensive. I personally think it has been great stuff with the price being.....inflated greatly. Just wanted your opinion on them, please.
Prime example of our today's car audio community needs. Watt per dollar. Nothing else matters just max power, how much it costs and how it's "flexing" the sub. Those chip amps have horrendous distortion that no one talks about... Yes, this is not SQ amp by any means, but no one is talking about that. This amp failed and is bad just because it didn't meet the power ratings specified on a piece of paper? No, this amp is bad because it has a lot of distortion. I highly doubt you will tell the difference between 35W and 50W.
Can test some different Bluetooth controllers with out head unit either going straight to amp or through a sound processor first
The output for its size is impressive. They should just be honest
Marts Digital 4000 RMS x4 ? Would love to see a review.
Definitely would use it for tweeter/drivers.
This might be the best way to replace my current powered sub that is good enough but doesn't hit hard enough. I could fit a single 10 or 12 under the rear seat of my ram
Hey Big D,
I need some marine 5.25s and I'm looking for a double din for my bike.
Got any recommendations?
How do you get in touch with Mr Williston, to ask?s or just ask here? My question is when you look up competition speakers they all have this big thick rubber or foam surround, but yet Memphis M7 12 inch subwoofers and their mojo series I'll have a double stitched twin edge surround, there's speaker prices are more per speaker than the average, the sound quality sounds excellent their speakers are made superbly with the vents to cooling the frames none like I've seen in any previous speaker but yet I never see any of them in competitions why is this also I never have seen a app test or a review on them except from the manufacturer so I wish that Mr Williston would do a review on the m7's and the Mojo's, just those speakers against other speakers to see which ones are truly the king!!!
what size power& ground have a prv amp similar to this just seeing what wire to get
Maybe flare the sub port? Seems to make a lot or Air noise.
This would be perfect for those $30 7inch multimedia players out there that only push like 10 watts by 4 at least you get your factory speakers up around that 50 watt area.
Another great video. Thank you.
These are great for small vehicles scooters motorcycles or golf carts lol😅.... ect ect i like it
E-Bike 😂
Whats a good budget radio
May not have done the rated power, but damn that's good value for the size and money... This is gonna go in my side by side - the little tar amps from a while back just doesn't have what it takes, lol.
You should check out the novsound g2 pro, I've got one running a scar SVR 12 and it sounds great. That one is about 80 bucks though
would it run two L7 12's blue stitching on them?
Chip on stetsom400.4 is TAS5630 (unavailable now)
I have a timpano 500.4 mini looks almost identical. I have it on my Harley it powers an 8 inch dd redline woofer and two 6x9s quite nice for 130 Canadian dollars.
This would be nice on my 85 Mustang for mids/highs
I think I have an old school Orion amp hiding out in my shop. Back in the JL audio days
I got an old yamaha 8 inch powered sub amp pushin an american bass 12 inch subwoofer. Its in a 2.7 cubic ft. box tuned to mid 30s . unbelievable how loud &deep the bass is for such low watts. My wife throws shoes at me when i crank up the bass😂😆😂😂
Thanks for this video I was watching that amp on amazon
I mean it failed at all the bench tests as far as making the rated power but it’s got to be good for mids and highs without having to run another power demanding amp.
This is one of those times we get to tell anyone who tries to criticize it, "but it was only $50". 😂
Why don't you test it at the 40Hz sub amp test frequency?
Derek, i missed you guy's last year at the OSS meet in Texas. I forget where it was, but it wasn't far from me, maybe an hour away. I hope y'all come back to Texas, would love to attend.
Could this power a 8 or 10 inch sub in a car?
