Another video tutorial voted by my Patreons! This time I will teach you how to paint non metallic metal, or more specifically how Squidmar paints NMM on his warhammer & dnd & scale models & busts. In this specific video paint tutorial we're using a Stormcast Eternal miniature from Age of Sigmar (Warhammer Underworlds), because these are easy to get hold of, have shapes that are easy to understand and references for inspiration and where to place highlights come in plenty!

It is always handy to have a reference.
Coat d'Arms Barbarian Leather is Citadel Snakebite Leather that's still being produced. I don't mean it's the same color - it is literally the same paint. When GW dropped their contract with HMG, HMG carried on producing the paint line under the name Coat d'Arms. Pretty much the whole range is still available as well as some additions.
noted. thanks!
Say wHAT? Got to check this out man!
That's amazing! Definitely gonna check it out!
wwwwwwwoooooowwwww !!!! Thanks for the info !

hush little baby.. good little baby... please go to sleep... PLEASE..
Im quite a bit older than most of you folks I think, Ive been painting minis for about 30 years. I love seeing how these new techniques are evolving - wet pallets, non metallic metals, painting light sources and glows its all really very interesting and im going to have to dig out my paints again just as soon as I can find the time. ;)
I actually painted for GW (about 20 years ago) - store display models and some of my stuff went into the magazines/books. Its truly interesting to me to see the evolution of techniques, I look back at some of my better models and think how much better the good painters of today are doing with all these new techniques and innovation!
So from an old dog to you young pups: GOOD SHOW!
I haven't painted for >20 years - and have just started again. One of the few pots of Citadel that survived hibernation was a full pot of Snakebite Leather!!
The kid has timing.
"We'll leave the bickering *baby cries*"
At first I really thought it was a sound bite
Sad baby back ground sound 🤘
I was worried my own kid had woken up!
I thought it was souls in torment; very suitable for the Mortal Realms
It's the new free-licenced background theme track from Kevin McCloud.
🤟🏻 Hail Stan!
That yellow glaze. That was the ticket. I was having a hard time figuring out the colors, and then your hint about the yellow glaze put it together for me. Thanks a lot! Also the contrast in the browns drove the point home.
"We're gonna Y U M P to the painting desk"
Hehehe your viking accent is great
Never shange :)
My hobby goal for this year is to really get good at NMM so this video is extremely useful
Yeah that gold is cool and all, but I couldn't help staring at that glowing green hair on Stormsire and the fire in his hand. That looks GORGEOUS

I never had the patience to do NMM or even practice it after I found the Liquid silver / gold paints from Vallejo
But I still watch every NMM tutorial I come across 😂😅
I love the Vallejo ones, so much better than citadel.
Beautiful NMM gold, i wanna see the recipe with silver tones or cold metal tones!
Coat D Arms made the old citadel paint and still sell them under their own range in the UK Snakebite is now called Barbarian Leather 👍🏻
this
Scale Creep Miniatures ( scalecreep.com/index.php ) also sells them in US
I’ve probably watched this 20x but I’m trucking away on my crappy nmm dominion stormcasts, thanks so much Emil for giving me the confidence to just go for it!
0:58 love how we can hear the kid having fun 🤣
Hi, i just want to thank you and this amazing comunity. I found your channel by total accident, and i will never regret that. I just finish my first figures, and thanks to your advices they look amazing! Sorry for my english, im still only student :D
Thats awesome! Welcome to the hobby! What minis are you painting?
@@SquidmarMiniatures I started with stormcast eternals, i couldnt decide between warhammer 40k and age of sigmar, i choose AoS because i wanted something easy for beginning. Now i have three minis painted and i buyed wet palette, some brushes and of course colours. Im so glad i have found your channel, now im experimenting with bases.
I wish I had this info 20 years ago. Anyway awesome info to work with
welcome to the hobby Jacob, and your English is quite good! you made only 2 mistakes, finish -> finished, advices ->advice. Good luck with your studies and your painting.
@@bigolbearthejammydodger6527 Thanks :D
Lovely technique man, it's very convincing and really gives a gorgeous gold.

Hi Mr. Squidmar - if you are looking for the old citadel paints, don't invest to much time into mixing colours for "close to" results. The company "coat d'arms" still produces exactly the old citadel paints. I'm buying the crappy old flesh wash over there cause I want to match some minis with my old models... Hope this helps.
Greets from Berlin
Love your channel - it's a huge inspiration - for example the painting competion - we copied it and had so much fun!
Thought that was presented fantastically pal. No silly tongue or dodgy camera cuts and extremely helpful!
Even though my most complicated paint job was on cardboard, I still just love these videos just for beautiful atmosphere it gives. Toast to you Emil.
Post is a pic of your cardboard.
The glowing green flame n hair on knight incantor is awesome
Weird, I've just got back into 40k after 20 odd years out. I found my old paints at my mum and dads ... snakebite leather is in there almost full haha
I love all the tutorial type videos you have! Fairly new to this hobby and I have learned so much to really improve the painting....with practice :) and also like hearing and seeing your family...keeps it real and gives hope to Mom's like me that it can be done even with life happening :)
One thing that seems very important when painting NMM is dramatic transitions between shadow and light. I can't seem to get it right and no one really adress it in tutorials. It feels more natural to make smooth transitions, but it seems that is not always the way to go when making NMM. Anyway, awesome video as usual!
Give this squid some love, he deserves it
This is such a great video! I really hope you will make a video about blueish silver NMM one day. Keep up the great work man!
Excited to try this out gonna try my first gold NMM tonight!
Saucy. Lock the door in case your mum/sister/room mate/pork pie landlord/enslaved architect or your imported animated stuffed lion head accidentally walks in on you.
Oh boy... It's been... 12-13 Years since I've last painted a Warhammer Figure... Now I wants to get some paints and start trying this out, Thanks Emil :D
I would love to see you paint sometging like a Cannon of the Dwarves with this Tehnique. All in shining Bronze, or dull reflecting cast iron...
First time I've watched a NMM video and thought to myself "....I could pull this off" another outstanding guide
Don't forget to tag me on social media if you try it out some time! :D

Fantastic explanation and how to, simply and to the point. Love the uncut step by step. Thank you sir!
Awesome illustration. Nice art. You have talent. Thanks for sharing. Full watched. I subscribed. 🎨✨✨✨
I have 4 kids and 2 are under 2 years old, I absolutely love their little squeels!

Well I'm pumped to try this technique out with my Walmart paints. I love this channel, makes me excited to paint. Great video!
Spending this weekend cleaning out my parents attic. Just found an un opened bottle of citadel snake bite leather from an old 40k starter paint set. It is from the time when they had the black screw lids that was impossible to open. Probably about 20 years old... also found som plastic spacemarines still in there spruces stamped 1993!
I cant wait to get set back up for hobby time and try this ,currently moving countrys at the moment
Emil, the first few minutes of the video and bubba in the background, I can relate. Made laugh as this is the exact situation I have right now haha
Thank you for these incredible videos, keep it up!
Coat D'Arms were the company that originally made the paints for Games Workshop they still sell paints with similar names.
I think Barbarian Leather might be a renamed Snakebite Leather.
Been struggling with nmm but I think this has helped alot, shall try tomorrow!!!!
Almost sounded like "ddddaaaaadddddyyyy" in background. Ah the joys of a work at home dad 😏 before long the kiddo will be finger painting epic 40k and dnd scenes for you......aaaallll....ooovvveerrrr.... your wall....haha. good work my friend, amazing results. Glad you shared.
He Emil. Fantastic art work and next-level
miniature-painting-skills ...
And very well explained. I love your channel and the stuff you are doin.
I hope that I can paint one day as good as you can (hopefully). Big up and nicegreetings to Sweden.
Feeling that dad life! Emil you absolute legend! Thanks for making videos I like, even if they are still very far out of my skill level...
I just found an old pot of unopened Snakebite Leather buried in my kit, I know what I'll be using that for :'D Off topic but that one model's flaming hair and hand look insanely good.
Thank you so much for this video, it really helped me. And ty for adding Canadian links! Also, love your accent!
Exactly what I needed for my upcoming project. Gonna try it out tonight. Thanks!
Always impressed when I see your nmm results. Nmm is one thing I always want to try if I see someone doing it, but it’s also a thing as a beginner I’m a little afraid of 😂
great info. the kids crying in the background as you are trying to work really clinches this video for me. stay strong!
I really love this! I hope i ever get to a point where i get this right :)
Fantastic as always. I heard your kid in the background and I confused it with mine so I ran to his room before realizing it was the video XD
Crazy. I get that all the time with animal documentaries. My wife is a noisy bellowing trumpet sleeper.
So good, your videos are great, so easy to follow and give such great results! Can't wait to try this one out
Very helpful. Thanks for this.
I was just about to start painting my thousand sons and this video came out. Bless!
A thousand sons !?!??! Your wife must be a ragged wind sock!
Although I prefer TMM, I'm still happy to watch your videos and show my support for your great videos. Keep at it my friend, you are so inspiring 😊
Yump around! Yump yump yump!
This will be a great resource for me on a miniature I am currently working on. I decided I wasn't going to use any metallics on it and the only NNM I really have any experience with is on power weapons. So the armor has been kinda tough.
If like me you lack the ability to even attempt to do NMM stuff look at Stuart Semple's paint line. The metallic line, glo line, iridescent, and coloriest color line are all amazing. He is most famous for his blackest black and its 2.0 and 3.0 versions, and while those are great for matte undercoat and specialist work his other paints are God tier. Though they need to be thinned a bit more than usual because they are not strictly model paints. Also sells powder versions for your mixing pleasure. His LIT line of glow paints are so good you can use them on plasma guns and other "glowy" bitz and expect them to actually display some glow in room normal light after you charge them.
Also there is a magnetically alignable nail polish I just saw that is incredible. Colored polish with magnetic filing that are a different color than the polish. Then you orient them by passing a magnet over it giving it a tiger's eye look.
i decided i wanted to paint my sanguinius model with NMM gold, and this video was extremely helpfull in learning how, thanks emil (i Lønneberget)
Not sure if the crying in the background was added or nature but it seemed fitting given the subject matter :)
Gorgeous NMM treatment for Gold. I am stealing this for the future.
Tell us about this future!?
Hi amil I'm going to go through this video with you and see my results Vallejo do a heavy brown extra opaque a sepia ink and heavy gold brown extra opaque for doing gold nmm. Just thought I would mention it incase you didn't know and wanted to try them yourself.
I want that lamp!
You can get the original snakebite leather from a company called Coat d'arms, they call it "Barbarian Leather." It's literally the exact same paint. GW ended their contract with the original paint maker but the paint maker still had a surplus of paints leftover that they had made for GW so they sold them to other companies including Coat d'arms. The bottles are even the same as the 90's GW bottles.

Usually I don´t really like NMM but this looks really cool, gonne give your challenge a try :)
easiest nmm i had ever done great guide
Awesome video Squidmar!
As always beautiful work
Best videos ever!!!
I have not heard about your golden color but this is amazing and I am sure to use it on my Retributors!
We are using the sun yellow from ValllllllYAYho. This is a great guide. I was thinking I should try NNM on a sword first to get the hang of it. But I might grab a Stormcast and give this a go!
Mention of internet bickering....child immediately starts crying in the back ground lol
Amazing as always Emil but oh man. More paints I haven't bought yet. I might just try it with a few of the browns and Evil Sunz Yellow I still have for now. Otherwise I'm buying $50 worth of paints every week.
I also bought a Raphael brush but I'm too afraid to use it! Haha! It's a thing of beauty though.
Love it! I was planing on getting stormcasts from a friend that bought starter box. Maybe ill slowly paint like that, but first i need to finish flesh eaters ;)
Great vid as always , must get the courage to try nmm
Try coat d'arms leather brown from the fantasy range. They are pretty much gw's old paints pre bolter shell style bottle lids
Scale 75 makes a color called peanut butter and it works pretty well for me in getting the gold down pat.
Just in time :) Now I can follow this to finish my local competition entry :)
Very Darren Latham-ish of you to only show it with the leg! ;)
Elsker dig alligevel, Emil.
Hello Squid, could you do a short on a darker grim kinda NMM? Something for like a Black Legion opposed to Space Marine trim kinda thing
I've been dreading the day I run out of the good old Snakebite Leather. Good to know that there is an alternative :D
As a note, Vallejo Game Color Beasty Brown and Model Color Flat Brown will work as substitutes for Mournfang Brown if you already have either one of those.
That was awesome, really effective technique
I like your sweater
Looks great but I wonder if I want to do all that hard work. Might give it ago one day in which case I’ll watch this again ❤️👍
If you are looking for Snakebite Leather check out Barbarian Leather from Coat d'Arms. ;)
Dude you can still buy Snakebite Leather from GW. They just changed the name and consistency. The new Colour is called "XV-88" and it got the same tone ;)
Warcolours have recreated old citadel colours, check them out great paint range
I will try that on my Custodes... I hope it works out as planned.
Snakebite looks pretty similar to Army Painter Hardened Leather
Great video, you really helped me to get started with painting nmm. On that topic, could you show us how to paint nmm on flat surfaces?
Hey man! I feel like many people will be interested in you trying realistic painting. I always wanted to see WH40K miniature painted WW2 miniature style. No comic book, cartooney style- as real world as possible.
Like it, I'm going to do my Tyranids as us airborne. Thanks for the tip.
@@adrians2190 That's not what I'm talking about, this is what I'm talking about- Warhammer is not painted to look real, it all looks like a cartoon sun9-23.userapi.com/c858124/v858124908/16e940/E6WN_0UoJOE.jpg
Tunes!
The kitties had an opinion to share!
Great work! I'm going to try something similar but with blue armor (tempest lords)
Im buying all these paints, a stormcast set, and trying this to the best of my ability. Started painting not too long ago, and your videos have been a great help! Thanks alot:D
Hmm... I may try doing my Custodes in NMM now.
I only play xenos but this is making me want to buy some of these models to try this
Maybe do the same for silver armour - that would be interesting to see :)
Wow nice Vid! Love our NMM.
OHHH THE BABY IS ANGRY!
