I saw them 3 times since then, he never coped again. On later tours he sang two times the second part, or sometimes Morse lets "sing" his guitar the high notes of the third part.

What they did in the ' 70s is stronger than a nuclear explosion. My father, like his generation, got us kids hooked on this music. For which I am grateful to my father that I love this music. Gillan's voice is inimitable: it is unlikely that metalheads can compete with the way he sang. Jon Lord-with his inimitable charisma and love of organ music and classical music: became the modern Johann Sebastian Bach in rock music. Bright memory to him.

Well, Ronnie James Dio says hello. And no, Jon Lord was a lot things - but never did he even saw the planet in the system in that JSB lived. Compared to him basically ALL modern writers look like 2-year old ones who cry some stuff. Period.
JL was a superb man, who wrote extremly great songs... also the performance was - puh... (and i am a great DP fan. And CiT is one of the greatest songs of the 20th century) But you are blinded by fanboyism... Also DP were not so good in most of their live-performances... True monsters were AC DC and Queen. Esp. ACDC is just the tightest and best performing live band on this planet. And with their lead singer Queen rocked all the time. Just because of Mercury. (but the others were also superb musicians)...

50 years ago and still this song is just as brilliant. That German audience didn't know what hit them. It was a fantastic time to be young, especially if you appreciated progressive rock. Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Moody Blues, 10cc, Barclay James Harvest, The Who, Black Sabbath, Peter Frampton, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Jethro Tull, David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, The Doors, - The list is endless and I bought and enjoyed it all. I was 22 when this came out. Probably the most creative time ever for music. We were blessed to be part of it.

Great comment. I often thank God for letting me be a teenager in the Seventies. It was a magical time of creation. Many of the Artists you mentioned in another 100 years will be considered the Mozart's and Beethoven's of their time. The popularity of some will be forgotten and the cream will rise to the top. Some of those guys we're also great poets and just some of the lyrics will be studied I am sure of it.

It wasn’t a German audience. It was recorded at the Granada TV studios in Manchester, England.
The audience was told to keep still & silent because it was being recorded live.
Try not to blink and you may spot a young man in a pink T shirt sitting quietly in the audience at the back. His name was George Best.

Glad you enjoyed this Rebeka, one of the great bands of my youth which we paid pennies to see live back in the 1970s. I saw DP perform this and much more in Newcastle Upon Tyne back in the day so great memories of great times.
If I may I'd suggest you react to Jethro Tull live at Madison Square Garden in New York. Tull are my favourite band of all time, unique, idiosyncratic and musically a mix of rock folk and jazz.
    Keep rocking girl.

I have a lot of emotional content when it comes tom Deep Purple and this song in particular. I was 14 and dating a girl from a different High school. We went to a concert because she wanted to see the Turtles(2nd opener on a 3 band bill(Happy Together)). I'd heard one song on the radio(hush) but otherwise knew nothing, it was 1968 and it was their first US tour. The turtles were good, but Deep Purple blew my mind and I was never the same. I didn't know you could make a sound like that with a guitar. And Ian Paice(drummer ) played left handed(WTF? Phil Collins is also a lefty). This was from the "In Rock" album and was about Vietnam(like much of rock back then. I missed going to Vietnam by 13 numbers(the draft was a lottery, yearly by birthdate,1 to 365. I was 49 that year, but Nixon ended the draft at 36). At the same time I heard this song....and yeah. Anyway...back then it was the "Terrible Three". The Who, Led Zeppelin, and Deep Purple. Of the 3 only Deep Purple persists in a meaningful way. Still Ian Gilliam on vocals and still the amazing(I'm a drummer) Ian Paice on drums. To experience Ian Paice's groove I highly recommend this one, it's the only youtube version I could find(no vid), but this is the best version, and I'm pretty sure it will want to make you get up and shake your ass, Rasarita's Cantina(a real place):ruclips.net/video/fokQxkvKpGY/видео.html

With that video, you're witnessing the beginnings of an entire genre of music. That likely explains the rather stunned looks on the faces of the audience. That was probably the first time a lot of them had seen or heard heavy metal and I imagine there was a fair amount of "What the hell did we just watch?"
That high note was an A5 for those of you playing at hone.

So, being almost 51 years old, obviously I know who Deep Purple is, and of course, I know the handful of iconic songs by them. But, one day, watching that VH1 Classic show called, "That Metal Show" they had a top 10 of best vocalist moments, and Ian Gillian popped up. Jim Florentine, who had him at the top of his list, quoted this particular song (which I had never heard of) and said it sounds like somebody dying or being murdered....
Whatever he said, it definitely piqued my curiosity, especially when he picked Ian as his top vocalist when other singers like Rob Halford and Geoff Tate were in the mix, I HAD TO hear this song, and I came across the exact same video you just reacted to, and I was like "Holy Fuck".......What????

@@davidantonacci9525 Ian Gillan had incredible technique controls power and range.
Paul McCartney had a fantastic voice and was a superior technician to John.
Gillan was another level, he could have been a baritone or tenor opera singer. He hammered his voice singing tracks with insane vocals only he could sing.
Jesus Christ superstar has been mentioned 1970 so I would listen to that. 'I only want to say,' is something else.
