    I took my shahada in 2009 and I started wearing hijab three days after I did. I never thought of taking it off. What bothers me is that people out there right away believe I wear it because of a man like for my dad or husband. I started wearing hijab completely on my own and when I was single and going to college. Definitely not for a guy. I wear it for allah.

    I remember being in the gym one time in a program and these two boys were assigned to choose the members of the two teams one of them pointed in my direction and said "THAT, is on your team" at that moment I felt so little and alone standing there trying to hold back tears unsuccessfully.Two other separate times in school my hijab was pulled off by two different girls and another girl told me not to wear a certain hijab I had. I was wearing jilbab when these all took place, I used to resent being raised in the U.S. because I felt like I couldn't practice islam as fully and easily as other muslims could. But despite these incidences I never thought of taking off hijab when this happened because I don't want their approval and I don't care if they like me and Ive also experienced the opposite as well If you're struggling remember you are never alone and youll be rewarded for your patience and perseverance insha'Allah,I used to be the only girl around wearing hijab sometimes. There are ppl who are supportive,accepting, and understanding both muslim and non muslim theres even non muslim girls on youtube who wear hijab like us proudly and aren't nuns. Tasneem, I think its really brave of you to confront those girls I admire you for teaching them a lesson. I wish I would've done that back then to those boys but now Im not gonna let anyone off who tries to belittle me for my hijab.

      Speaking as an American (white, female), I am so sorry you (and many others) go through this. There are serious deficiencies in our society that tolerate and condone this sort of discrimination against others such as yourself. Thank you for sharing your experience, as I think hearing these accounts is imperative to provide transparency and bridge this gap between the "one" and the "other."

    This is actually the first time I ever comment on a youtube channel. This particular video of yours is totally relatable, Tazzy. Even in a country where Islam is a majority such as where I live, I still feel insecure at times. Some feels like the change I make to myself is too much, some expressed how I don't wear it properly enough. I just think that people has their own stages and it's a very personal journey. Anyway, love this series Tazzy, salam from Indonesia :)

    But I still wear it and I like it and not like it at times too! This one particular incidence.. I went bowling in my abaya with my friends I thought it would be awkward and all and people would laugh but non of them actually made a big deal about it phew!

    When I played sports in high I was literally the only hijabi! I always felt self conscious and when we played at different schools it was even worse and I would feel like my friends were ignoring me because they were embarrassed to be seen around me. So I would just plug in my headphones and push through. There were so many times I would ask myself what am I doing here.. Is it really worth it? And yes it is.. Till this day I look back and I am proud that I didn't use my hijab as an excuse because I will be wearing it my whole life so I might as well start now and learn to persevere and not inhibit myself from opportunities.

    Tazzy, your story is full of determination and I'm not quite certain you see that. The fact that when you were at one of your weaker moments, and you still stood up for yourself, you chased those girls to a point where they had no option but to listen to you is an accomplishment. It is in these small acts of courage that we are able to unite, and I believe your story in its strength is nothing short of beautiful.

    I'm the fittest girl in school and sport is my LIFE and I wear a hijab. People in my school get it and understand but when I go to other schools for competitions the referee and audience seems to be nervous when they find out that I'M the captain of the team since I'm the only hijabi on the field . I sometimes even hear the audience laugh at me thinking I'm probably not very sporty but then they shut up when I score the most points for the team and run the fastest on the field AND win. The shock on the audiences faces always makes me smirk 😏

    this is one of the reason i don't wanna go to abroad. i fear i won't be able to handle the discrimination and give up eventually. but that does not mean i didn't face difficulties in my place. the last man i dated, he almost liked me but without my head scarf. he didn't say it. but there isn't much to say when you show how you feel. i let go of him and he moved on. sometim i blame myself why did i fall for someone who would have obligations with real me, but then i tell myself maybe it Allah who brought me to this fate. maybe i had something yet to learn more essential and give away some of my views on life.

    Long term sweat or moisture can encourage mould and fungal growth, whether it is on your feet (athletes foot), on your head or even in the bathroom hence why extractor fans are necessary. Your doctor always recommends you allow your feet to breathe when you have athletes foot. Whether we realise it or not, glands of our scalp constantly release sweat and sebum; when the head is covered with a hijab, it creates a warmer environment which is ideal for bacterial and fungal infestation, resulting in itching, stickiness and that dreaded bad odour. My advice for hijabis is to avoid covering their hair while it’s sweaty or wet as doing so activates fungi and the fine insects, which live on the skin surface. Fungus can cause those hairs to break and fall out easier than normal, leaving a bald patch of skin. No one is saying take the hijab off forever, use your common sense and give your head a break once in a while eg while playing sports or in warm temperatures. No God worth worshiping would want people to have health problems and He would expect people to use common sense when we decide to fast or wear the hijab while ill.

    It's soo true !! I started with the Hijab after 10th (15yrs) ik it's kinda late but after that I went to new school and mann the eyesss the questions and specially they were all abt mostly MY BABA !!! WTH people -- no my family never told me to let alone force me to -- I basically was the 1st one from my entire lineage of family to wear The Hijab -- like how can someone force me and why are u ASSUMING SOOO MUCH ABT MY PERSONAL LIFE WTF !! Let alone my dad had his beard grown after I took the hijab I was the starter I think !! They even were afraid of THE HIJAB -- YES MY OWN FAMILY -- bcz of how people react to it in general -- but what I know is I always loved my Religion and after growing in a era where" muslims=terrorist" was the only cry (I am 19now)-- I became more and more drawn to ALLAH SWT AND ALHAMDULILLAH FOR THAT --// But yes it's a struggle EVERYDAY !! It HURTS bcz it never should be -- a person's relation with their Creator is that person's choice in particular-- u are never responsible nor u should ever feel obligated to ans any question regarding the act of someone else only bcz ur of the same religion it makes no sense and if someone does make someone feel like that we'll UR THE WORST 😀 !! Stop bullying and yes I am telling abt my experience with other MUSLIM GIRLS // TRUST ME THEY'RE MOSTLY THE WORST--

    I stopped Karate when I was in high school because I was the only one whose wearing hijab (and not many girls wearing hijab at that time) and sometimes I got laughed at. And now everyone wear hijab and a lot of hijabis learn martial arts. And it feel sucks because I give up on something that I really like and can protect me in fights. I'm from Indonesia btw. When you're a minority you always got laughed at, what you do is make yourself cool wearing hijab. I didn't know this, but turns out, a lot of girls from my high school secretly thought that I was cool! And for years to come, more and more girls also wear hijab. Haaaah... I should've ignore them.

    I'm on the track team (well, it's in spring but whatevs). People around me are used to me wearing the hijab, so there's nothing much in that. One day I was wearing this scarf that always slipped and stuff. I told the coach I was going to the bathroom, yada yada yada. When I came to the bathroom, this girl was in the stall a few feet away from me. She was holding her phone under the stall and I could see what she was doing. She opened snapchat and took pictures of me. I think she was a year older than I was, but I felt really uncomfortable getting my picture taken, because I've been criticized about my hijab countless of times before. When I came out of the bathroom, this teacher was walking by and I told her about it. She talked to the girl after she came out the stall, and the teacher checked through her CAMERA ROLL. It was on snapchat though. I said thanks and just walked off.

      Rizwana Afzal oh same! I recently decided to wear it too (I'm 24 and should have started a long time ago but I thought I was finally ready) it's been two months or so and for some reason I just don't feel as confident either. Yesterday I went to a dinner party and literally I was the only hijabi except for older people and no one really talked to me even though they were my cousins!

    • @eternalnocturnal936
      @eternalnocturnal936 7 лет назад

      Chocolover5652 oh no way! Why would they be like that. Hijab or no hijab ur the same person. I'm so sorry I was obviously typing this when I was half asleep. I meant that I feel more confident in a hijab than I did when I didn't wear it ...I'm 24 too.. and yes of crse islamically it should have been earlier but I'm guessing we will still be rewarded for starting! I know how u feel when u say ur not confident in it. At first I was like what are people going to say,will they judge me, should I first perfect my self in my deen first(I do pray but my knowledge in Islam is weak) but then I realised I wasn't doing it for their sake.. it was for the sake of ALLAH.. and when I thought like that it felt much easier to deal with. in shaa ALLAH you will get to that stage... it takes time, it's a huge transition.. as much as people just think it's just a piece of clothing on ur head, it isn't. I'm sorry if this comment was like a lecture I can go on 😂😂 xx

    • @Chocolover5652
      @Chocolover5652 7 лет назад

      Rizwana Afzal yeah I don't know, maybe because I wasn't dressed "cool" anymore. I'm happy I made the decision and I don't feel bad when my husband and I go out and alhamdullilah my husband supports my decision 100%. I think it's more when I'm around my cousins because they don't wear it. So I was left alone with the older women.But ultimately you're right we are doing it for Allah and they're judgements shouldn't matter. My mom says that sometimes people can be jealous of the strength others have and they might have been upset that I had the courage to do it first out of all of them. And I don't mind:) thanks for replying

    I started wearing hijab immediately after I converted because you're "supposed to." I didn't give myself a chance to NOT wear it to see how I'd feel. I'm not 100% that you have to wear it. It definitely doesn't make you a better Muslim if you do or don't. Now, I kind of can't wear it because it's affecting my health (vitamin D). So now I'm faced with 1) wear it when I don't feel the pull to and I'm exhausted all day long or 2) not wear it, feel better, and not worry my mom and family so much (health and safety). Le'sigh.

      You can take Vitamin D supplements.. even tons of non-Muslims who don't wear the hijab and expose their skin are still Vitamin-D deficient and need supplements, because nowadays people stay inside so much. You can go outside and expose your hands and feet to the sun for 30 or 30 minutes, or if you have a backyard that is private enough sit outside everyday for a bit without a hijab. The rewards you will get in the hereafter are so huge, you can't give them up for this one little problem in the dunya that can be easily fixed. May Allah reward you and keep you strong :)

      faj3ane I'm not sure you read my whole post. I'm outside more than an hour every single day with my hands and face exposed. Obviously that's not enough. Supplements are not enough. And as I already mentioned, I'm not 100% sure that you HAVE to cover. I shouldn't cover because other people THINK I should when I don't feel there's sufficient evidence that it is a must to cover. If my intention to cover is not for the sake of Allah (swt), then I should not do it. Intention is one of the most important concerns for us. There are WAY more important things for me to worry about with my deen than whether I cover my hair or not, especially if it's making me feel sick and exhausted 24/7. Allah (swt) makes things easy for us.

      are you an Islamic scholar with a formal education in fiqh and tafseer of the Quran? if not, then you don't have any right to interpret Islam and say you don't think there is enough evidence that hijab is not required, when all mainstream orthodox Islamic scholars have agreed that yet is required. and do you really think that if you take an entire bottle of vitamin d pills, it won't increase the vitamin d level in your body?

      faj3ane Judge not lest ye be judged. You are the pot calling the kettle black. You are not an Islamic scholar either and your comment is a reason that leads people away from Islam by being judgmental and accusatory. You may wear the hijab but you're not being a very good Muslim for being so disrespectful and judgmental towards me. No compulsion in Islam, remember? You may want to look that up.

      faj3ane And to top it off, you are a random person on the internet spouting all this to a stranger that you will probably never meet from the anonymity of your computer or phone. You were not trying to be helpful or positive in your response. You were trying to make me feel bad and be negative. So who's the one with the issue? Again, you didn't really read my comments and are trying to push your beliefs on me. That's not how it's supposed to be and as a Muslim, you should know that.

    The sad part of it was when you said I don't know if I'll wear this forever. You might not but at least keep your faith in Allah and make Du'a to be you stronger in what you believe.

    This is what i think of it like:
    in Allahs eyes , women who cover are REALLY beautiful,and in the end who are you trying to impress..ALLAH! ;not some random ignorant girls who dont have a clue of how to cover themselves and be honest.

    I took my shahada in 2009 and I started wearing hijab three days after I did. I never thought of taking it off. what bothered me was that people out there believe I wear it because of a man like my dad or husband. I started wearing hijab completely on my own and when I was single and going to college. Definitely not for a guy. I wear it for allah.
