It is bloody brilliant that you voice edited the video yourself with the valuable information . Thumbs up ! : )
Nice vid. Did this to my 540i a couple months back. One of the best upgrades you can do.
Been thinking about doing this to my 530 for awhile now, definitely gonna pull the trigger on it now! Thanks E39 source!
Also I'm digging the interior in this car, looks great!
That sheep almost got the business
If you want it to feel even better, I highly recommend getting a ZHP-style shifter knob. It's a bit shorter and it's weighted so it makes those throws feel even shorter. I installed one in my M5 which has a Dinan short shifter and it feels amazing.
I hate when the steering wheel is in the glove box.
hhahahaha
Sorry i am german, i don't have humor, was your comment a "joke" ? If it was not: So why do you take it off and put in your glove box? This doesn't make sense at all! Schweinehund
@@Emslaender_Jung he wanted multifuction so he installed a second steering wheel Obstkuchen
I actually did the same thing for my 2003 540i after watching this video and looking in the forums... its a world of a difference and its shorter then the stock one.... I also replaced the shift knob I got a smaller shift knob off a 2015 335i it fit perfectly same design on the inside just clicks on and you are good to go.... Many thanks for this video...
Are you great changes smooth though mate?
Love, love, love the Coral Red interior! I wish it was available here in the States!
Rouge short shifter with f10 shift knob .I love it.
It's pretty much a review for the short shifter, still appreciate it
Have this same mod/set up on my e39 M5 and I love it!
Did you change the gearknob as well? Or is it possible to use the stock boot with the illuminated knob?
@@trevynnagindass8278 ya dude, it can be done i think but i wouldn't do it. Get the boot with knob attached from turner or wherever and carefully follow the procedure. I really love it but you may have to stretch the boot a hair. Looks and feels awesome. 👍👌🤙
Just ordered mine 😁
Thanks for the vid! I'm definitely interested in this mod now
Man this is exactly the video i needed to see today thanks!
This looks much better! might try it on my 525. The gearbox oil could do with a change now so will do them at the same time.
I do find fresh oil improves the shift especially when cold.
just install to my e46 works great thanks for the link
I like the color combo
this also works with the E34.
hi! just find your video and it looks great, but i have a question, we have to take a 545i shifter only or it’s possible to take every E60 shifter?
The shifter I recommend is BMW #25117546373: tinyurl.com/mr549yh7 It is listed as standard equipment on the BMW E60 520d, 525d, 530d, 530i, 540i, 545i, and 550i.
@@E39Source Thank you!
So which one is better? The E39 M5 SSK built by Dinan or the E60 545i SSK by BMW?
They offer the same shifting performance, the Dinan part has simply been dressed up for marketing.
Were you just getting used to the shifter or the shorter one is harder to move through gears?
holy shit did the price for this shifter mod skyrocket
Where did you get the instructions/install guide from? The ECS chat rep said it doesn’t come with instructions when you buy the kit with the ZHP knob and short shifter
Please see our E39Source videos for shifter DIYs!
Hello. Is it possible to get parts from ECS Tuning in the U.K. My E39 M5 and I are based near Manchester. Great channel by the way. Thanks.
What does "notchy" means? Google Tranlate cant find it
Shifting into each gear will have it's own distinct click, or notch that it is slotting into.
+E39Source Ok thanks
what other shifter components should you replace when doing this?
Good God, they going for 150 instead of 70 now😂😂😂
Howd you hook up the charger?
is it the original e60 545i shifter or a short shifter for the 545i? asking since ecs is out off stock, so it would be nice if i could buy this from a local dealer
Stock E60 545i manual shifter. 25117546373
@@E39Source thank you for the reply
What kind of paint did u use on ur rims?
it's possible to install it on a 525d e39 ?
I think so? We don't have the diesels here in the US but everyone puts the 545i shifter in E39s so it should work.
Did you have any issues with your transmission leaking? German e39 forums are reporting on oil leaks following short shift mods using OEM parts.
Installing a new shifter would have no correlation to a transmission leak.
holy shit i was so confused about the steering wheel
Will this work on E46 & E9X models?
I'm not sure if the E60 545i shifter will work, but I would venture a strong guess that it would. I'm sure there are write-ups on other websites with people who have done it.
***** I can find out on the forums if it works or not?
You should be able to, yes.
reupload?
What engine is in this e39?
At the time of this video a 2.2 liter straight six but now he dropped a 3.0 straight six in there.
But how'd you get red seats
My shifter is more terrible then yours previous:S
how much was the part?
can you post link of the site you bought it?
The description has been updated with this information.
Does it still working fine?? I haven't got so much trust about aftermarket shifters. Mostly I have red only negative experiences on E39 forums...
The 545i shifter is made by BMW. It still works perfectly! No reason not to trust this one.
@@E39Source Now only 174.55$. Sweet. Just 3x the Price :D
baaaaaaahaaha
You dont have to change gearbox oil on a bmw
Dominik Dachs You most definitely do!
E39Source hello, i am from germany and my e39 has got 356000 km on it without changing gearbox oil.
Moonshiner E39528i You don't NEED to necessarily, but if you do you will probably notice a big difference right away.
learn to hold the wheel first then make other things

I don't know if ECS ships to the UK, and a quick Google search got me nowhere. They have a chat link on their website for support, I would ask somebody there. Thanks for the positive feedback!
does this fit on a 1997 520i 2.0?
It should... but we don't have the 520i here so I am not 100% sure.
