  • To prep for my trip to Powertec HQ, I had two choices, to try to get as big as possible or to try to get as shredded as possible. Ultimately, I chose to get shredded. In this video, I cover everything I did to get in the best shape of my life including my training routine, nutrition, cardio, TRT, Powertec equipment, hacks, machine modifications, and more.
My goal was to make this my most information-packed and most useful video ever. I hope you find it meaningful.

I really appreciate how down to earth and no nonsense you are with your delivery. I think a lot of other content creators get caught up in the idea of being a fitness influencer and appeasing the algorithm, so they end up making clickbait titles or dragging out content. You crammed a lot of good information in one video without it feeling bloated. I was wondering if you would be willing to make a video going in further depth on how your training method works? I know you said it is based off hit principles. Thank you for the great work!

As for my training method, this video really covers all of its aspects. I think the beauty of it, is its simplicity. Those first few slides I show are the foundation of everything I do. A couple of warm up sets and then one all out work set. Depending on the training day, I might do another exercise or two for a given muscle group following the same warm up structure.

I Applaud you for sticking to your beliefs. You could've collected so, so, much equipment and sold it for money after you did a review, which is one of the ways other reviewers make money and build their home gyms. To me that's fine up to a point but I think most of them had to compromise integrity & honesty to stay in the game. You only want to be loyal to your favorite company and are not money motivated.
This model you follow has brought you an unequal level of respect from the viewers.
You and only one other guy ( McAllister Strength) are the only two influencers/reviewers that I've ever seen that are not monetarily motivated. This is refreshing to see and if you decide to make some money from your channel in the future, no one could possibly fault you or blame you.

    Superb video there mate!
I found your details of training very interesting! Personally I get wiped out if I train so often due to lifting heavy (relative term) weights that i have built to an acepted advanced level, but only by natural standards, over the years.
I think the fact however, that you listen to your body and take a rest day or two when felt needed is the catalist to making your training effective. I am much the same when you mention that you wasted loads of money in the past on over hyped supplements, and like you, I now only take a select few choice items.
Also like yourself, I spent many years trying to look more like drug assisted, genetically well inclined champions, but these days I appreciate more realism while trying to focus on health, less suplements, better quality food and the un quenched first for the joy of small victory body/gym improvements/gains etc.
I think you are looking great for having dropped body weight although you did not look bad before. Well done to you sir.
With the diet aspect of what you have shown, I agree with your comment that everyone is different.
In my opinion and by having spoken to both hard core carnivore diet advocates and hard core vegans over the years, HC carnivores (largely to their emotional attachment to meats) who say fruits and veggies are evil and should be thrown away! And HC vegans (largely to there emotional attachments against butchered meats) who say cows milk and meat will make you sick and even kill you! I believe the great author of keeping people extreme, in the dark, confusion and deception is the Devil. Only the well ballanced truth is the light that many people on many topics lack.
The fact that you have identified that carbs do not best suite you, yet do not deny yourself of some carbs in your diet, or go around hating them, or fats, is very well ballamced and of good judgement. You have tools to prove this works for you and have found a ballance that suites you while including all macros, from quality food.
I am not sure if you choose to be a vegetarian? And i am no expert on diabetes? But in my experience, including oysters for the high end zinc and grass fed Ox liver (little but often) for the iron, vitamin A and B vitamins in particular, makes a massive diference to my strength gaining ability (again, at least by natural standards), as inclusions to an already well ballanced and varied enough nutritional plan.
If you say you are down on strength (understandabally) due to your lower bodyweight, i could only recomend you try a small amound Liver, and sea food high in zinc, if you can tolerate it? Natures bio avalible multi vitamins/vitamins along side a little fruit and some greens for sure! Indeed everyone is different, but my recent inclusions of such allowed me to achive an unexpected spike in strength gains and well being, is all i can say about that.
Also the gym(s) look fantastic and although i have mentioned before, I love what you have done with the poewrtec multi press witg the weight tree behind it! This is the best of the Powertec lever arms with the ultimate of possible convinience.

@@HomeGymHacksandReviews Yeah it was going great, I just need to continue to get back to full form after being sick and hopefully I can re-gain some strength, conditioning and continue dropping some extra unwanted lbs.
Haha, indeed oysters are an acquired taste. lucky that I grew up in Birmingham UK at the weekends, visiting Grandparents close to the major fish market and I was de sensitized to all the otherwise weird things early on. Personally oysters are one of the few foods where I can literally feel they are good for me. Later on when I studied nutrition I found out the benefits of zinc and it just so 'happened' that oysters are about the cleanest and purest form of zinc known to man. As they soak up all the surrounding goodness around them. Hence why the inside of the shells are pure white!
I think chicken is great. Skin on has been hated on in the past but the true whole food is non skimmed, and chicken skin is full of collagen. It can just be hard these days to find quality chicken these days in the UK and the good stuff, organic free f
Range corn fed is becoming very expensive, but indeed, sometimes you simply get what you pay for!
I could blab on all day but yes it works fantastically well on the MP with the tree for efficiency and convenience of quickly changing plates.
At the moment I have the LeverGym and Multi System as my main two leverage based machines, but if ever I move or re-configure my gym space, I will keep the MP and weight tree in mind in addition to a separate high low pulley stack and separate rack with plate storage (as I have now) also for a wonderfully efficient quick change set up.

Mike Israetel seems like a Good guy and his RP
program or app I'm sure is very involved. I think beginners and novices could benefit from it but you dont need it.
When someone knows what we know and has trained for years I believe they should come up with their own program. Nobody knows their body like they know it. I think you did the right thing, no one can write you a program better than you.
The proof is in your mirror!!!!!
You're like a superhero, you're the "Powertec Man", haha, it's true though

@@bobbyhunt3009 lol! “Powertec Man!” I agree, I think the app is great for people who are relatively new to training or for people who don’t want to think about their training, but with nearly 25 years of lifting experience, I really don’t need it.
Same, I really like Mike and enjoy his videos.

Looking sharp Mr HGHR, all you need is some fake tan, oil and a stage, really impressive overall shape and balance, sure if you put a Jumper (I think that's called a sweater in your country) on, or a coat, then maybe people wouldn't be able to tell that you lift, but honestly most big lifters in heavy clothes just look fat and over weight any way, and how healthy is it to hold all that extra bodyweight, its great to have goals and to drop body fat to see your results but trying to maintain that might limit progress, at 55 I can train 6 days a week with high intensity at low or high volumes, but I won't see any results from it, there's just too little rest, a PPL over 5 days (Push/Leg/Rest/Pull/Rest/repeat seems to work best for me, While I know that I'm not going to see any significant gains to my larger muscles there is still room for growth in some lagging muscles which I've probably not hit directly enough or correctly.

@@WhistlerUK thank you so much, WA. It’s funny you mention the extra bodyweight, because my wife was watching this video last night and the flashback part from last year where I’m close to 200 pounds shocked her because I was carrying so much weight in my face…she said I was unrecognizable.
Very good to hear you’ve found some programming that works for you.

@@HomeGymHacksandReviews The part at 23:20? Yes I thought the same, you look quite bloated, was this during the cream TRT?, I think if you look back pre your last bulk you had a good balance between size and definition, that being said the main priority should be your health and enjoyment for working out, My routine works well for me, gives me enough rest etc but I do enjoy working out 6 days a week, I find its easier to get back in the gym when I've worked out the day before, a rest day can make me feel lazy.

@@WhistlerUK I think that was before the cream. Yeah, I was eating so much food, no cardio, and I was limiting my step count so I could pack on the pounds. Definitely not a good look for me, but I was pretty strong at that point; that’s when I was doing 8 45s on the Rhino.
Agreed, 6 days a week is my sweet spot for training.

I postponed getting on TRT until my 50s. I've been doing 7 eggs after my morning workout. Additional meals consist of either chicken or ground beef. One day a week I'll do another 6-7 eggs in the evening. I do follow the same no eating before 730 rule. Honestly, the increase in eggs has done wonders for my energy levels and gains. Since Feb I've gone from 270lbs to about 236lbs.

At some point, I’ll try a more aggressive protocol…even though my levels are low, I don’t think or feel like I need it.
