      Pure romantic is hard to dress, for me at least it’s hard to determine what would be pure romantic and what would push to far over into soft natural territory. A pure romantic video would be great!

    • @sunnivameyer8263

      I agree. I am pretty sure I am a romantic (I got mostly D’s and E’s on my test, with the occasional C, no A or Bs), but I think I look childish with the kind of details suggested for romantics. I have therefore wondered whether I rather am soft classic, but the suggestions for soft classic seem not fitted enough /too structured for me. I think I look my best in clothes that could be used by both romantics and (soft) classics.

    Yes those Soft Natural dresses are my dream dresses anyways lol. I’ve tended to dress like my body type without even knowing it. • @Terinka14

    I am pretty sure I am a TR and I like the TR examples, but I really wish I was classic... I LOVE the classic examples, the simplicity and accurate shapes.

    • @Terinka14
      @Terinka14 5 лет назад +1

      @@astonish_injurer5598 I have a very hourglass figure, small narrow feet and hands, sloped but narrow shoulders... I really dont believe I am any type of classic. I have a 32DD chest and waist more than 10 inches smaller... Basically all my body answers are D. I look slightly shorter than I am. My body looks absolutely nothing like a dramatic classic's body. thanks for dissecting my photo (seriously - Although I hope I dont have very thin lips in real life haha... I really wondered about my jawline especially.) but my body really is very different.
      I am not sure how you can judge somebody's overall vertical line when you dont see them as a whole, and also how you can determine the shape of my shoulders when you dont see them properly, I am wearing clothers and the photo is small and cropped... As for my face, I agree it has yang bones, but I do have some yin flesh. Again, my body is very yin and my vertical line is actually short-ish.

    • @Terinka14
      @Terinka14 5 лет назад +1

      @@astonish_injurer5598 I dont really think loving the "aesthetic" of one type makes you more likely to be the type. I said I loved the classic dresses, how they look - but I never said they look good on me.
      I am less of a gamine than I am a classic... Maybe if I had a different body, my face might pass to be a soft gamine's face? but I really cant see being a soft gamine. I am not girlish (which is what i see as one common trait of gamines), I have a very womanly figure. I love many SG celebrities, so it is not like I have something against that type. When I was 18 - early twenties, I used to wear stuff that I now would say looks like gamine clothing, and looking back I must say I looked like somebody's mom wearing the clothes :/
      I would say it just generally requires much more than seeing one photo with clothes on to be able to determine the type of the person. Clearly a feeling somebody is tall or has long vertical line isnt always correct, especially basing it on a low quality selfie of their face. I just looked at the photo and maybe the shoulders are a little deceiving, as I was holding the phone in front of me, so that is probably why you thought I had sharp narrow shoulders.

    • @Terinka14
      @Terinka14 5 лет назад +2

      @@astonish_injurer5598 Thanks. I know it is a stereotype. I dont mean girlish in behavior, but in overall look. It just appears to be true a lot of the time, visually the ladies look younger, slightly teenage like even if they are very much adult. I just hope you would not try to type somebody based on face alone (also based on one single photo). Marriam herself has a video called "same face, different type" - body does matter quite a bit.

  • @4Distractiononly
    @4Distractiononly 6 лет назад +12

    What I've been doing is looking for a very fashionable celebrities that I can observe their red carpet looks. They don't always choose the best line for them but if they have a good stylist you can pick up some great ideas. For instance, Michelle Williams is my style guide. I'm a SG and her 2006 red Oscar dress would be perfect for a wedding dress if it was white. She often chooses great lines for her body, high necklines, intricate patterns, geometric shapes and a good balance of feminine/masculine which for SG is important.
    It helps to keep another person close to your own shape in mind because you can lose perspective shopping. You can like the style on the hanger or model but it wouldn't suit you as well. Yet, if you keep very clean vision of your body lines and the lines of the clothing, first, then shopping is more precise.

    • @merriamstyle
      @merriamstyle  6 лет назад +1

      Yes! Jenna Coleman is another great example of an SG who wears her lines so often, that it's difficult to find images of her not wearing her lines. Sometimes it's harder to tell 'does this look good on me', and easier to ask the question, 'would this dress look good on this SG celebrity, then I know that, because I'm an SG, I'll look good in it too'.

  • @kareng.7773
    @kareng.7773 6 лет назад +18

    I have a question, you said that R and TR could wear SG lines can SG wear some R and / or TR line and still look good? because that could explain why some people torn between TR and SG have a problem deciding even when trying outfits (I do ahah)
    Also there are R/TR things and G/SG things I can't see myself wear
    For ex I personally don't like peter pan collar too childish imo and I already look younger than I am so adding that king of collar or too much ruffles (which is more of a R thing) isn't flattering me and doesn't fit my personal style.

    How do I dress edgy when I'm soft natural? What clothes would look best on me?

    • @Pr0fessorScience
      @Pr0fessorScience 6 лет назад +19

      I'm soft natural, too, and I like to dress edgy. It can be tricky since "edgy" is usually associated more with dramatic lines, and I don't know about you but I really can't pull off things that are so narrowly angular.
      I did find a really great moto jacket a while back made of a thick cotton, so it held its shape but had enough stretch to move with my body instead of around it. It was cut exactly to my waist, so it emphasized my hips more and helped balance out my shoulders/ bust. Unfortunately I wore it out and I haven't been able to find a replacement (I've been looking desperately for over a year now). But I used to wear it with ripped mom jeans to widen my hips and a drapey t-shirt. With the right shoes and jewelry, that kind of mix definitely looks edgy.
      So I guess the overall advice would be to look for pieces that have an edgy feeling (moto jacket, ripped jeans) but that account for your body shape (softer material, drapier cut, slim shoulders, added material around hips/butt). Since soft natural and soft dramatic can sometimes share cuts, another technique might be to mix soft natural pieces with edgy pieces cut for a soft dramatic, since they'll probably be easier to find than edgy pieces cut for a soft natural.

      Well, in my opinion the key is not to wear X piece but to combine the lines to match your type. It might sound hard but gives you the most freedom. So basically look for softened dramatic lines and romantic lines.

  • @romeoslover817

    These dresses look great on these slender models. I would not be able to wear most of them because i am plus size, very a large bustline. The dresses they have for plus size all look pretty much the same to me. Big skirts a horizontal neck be cause the girth of the woman is going to widen anything she puts on. Most of the wedding dress style I see are strapless or and or sleeveless. May plus size women do like like their arms showing and someone like me absolutely needs to wear a bra that does not slip down. The choices for us are very limited, especially if we follow the Kibbe system.

    Just want to add for the Romantics that any dress Kate Winslet wore in Titanic completely fits the romantic aesthetic. imagine her dinner dresses in white or the dress she wore during the sinking but in white. those silhouettes look gorgeous. beading and draping are your friend. you can totally go for satin as well as lace. See also Marilyn Monroes movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and pay attention to silhouettes Marilyn wears including an orange rouched tulle mermaid gown and her pink satin gown. now just imagine them in white. Boom, there's more wedding gown inspiration. Romantics particularly look great in column/sheath dresses, fit and flare, and ballgowns. just stay far away from cottons and tafetta, their too stiff of fabric.

    • @merriamstyle
      @merriamstyle  4 года назад +3

      SD and SN lines I've found have a lot of similarities--both have lightweight fabrics, both have length, but the biggest difference is that SN is a bit more 'relaxed' in lines, meaning the lines aren't as 'clean' so to speak. I would say go somewhere in the middle. Maybe hair like Sophia Loren's but just a tiny bit more undone, satin fabrics but maybe a bit more loose. And you'll already look so glam to bring in that 'SD vibe' that I think is associated with SD lines. If you wear full SD it'll look way too glam on you (I have a video called SD vs SN where I show examples), but if you add a touch of that influence, you will already look super glam and still look like yourself.

    I am a bit unsure about some of your suggestions for the romantic type. I, as many romantics, have big breasts and prefer to wear clothes that avoid enlarging them and prefer bringing focus toward my small waist. I think many of your suggested bridal gowns have so many details on the upper body that the breasts get enlarged. I am therefore wondering whether you were thinking too much about Drew Barrymore and too little about Christina Hendricks when you chose recommendations for romantics.

    • @merriamstyle
      @merriamstyle  5 лет назад +2

      Hi Sunniva, I was thinking a lot about Drew Barrymore, and not at all about Christina, but I also think shapely bust lines are beautiful so I didn't consider that people would want to hide that! But I think that's ok too if people want to play it down. Kibbe is all about working with your own body rather than trying to downplay any parts of it, so his suggestions won't really 'help' with trying to downplay anything. Certainly, you could eliminate some of the detailing around the bust line in the examples, and instead, go for detailed intricate necklaces to make up for that lack of detailing around the bust line.

    • @sunnivameyer8263
      @sunnivameyer8263 5 лет назад +1

      Merriam Style I see your point about Kibbe being more about working with your body. The reason why I want to avoid enlarging my breasts is that it makes people only see them and not me when they meet me. And that is probably why I have tended to prefer classic lines rather than romantic lines. But I think your advice about introducing other details instead is good.
