    4:10 SNAKE is actually to make sure that you're not looking at the friendly end of the IR beam accidentally. Brevity ROPE is for actually finding the JTAC in the first place - he'll move the IR pointer in a figure eight at the sky. And the JTAC would appreciate a "Contact sparkle, capture targets, visual friendlies" to make sure as well! Especially because the Apache doesn't have an IR device of it's own so you can't do a MATCH SPARKLE (pointing your own IR pointer at the enemy end of the JTACs beam).
    Night CAS is sooo much fun in a milsim context and VR. Absolute maximum immersion.

      If you're playing the apache, you can go to your acquisition sources and select the '?SKR' option to turn the seller on the hellfire to your acquisition source. Ensure it's LOBL, on the correct laser setting, and just have the gunner wait for the big box, slave, lase and store, and you have your target.
      It's obviously not going to have the same range or fov as an actual LST, and you'll need at least 1 laser hellfire, but it works in a pinch until we get the LST for the 64.

  • @talbotmcinnis

    Minor point for the CAS nerds: the purpose of SNAKE is primarily to ensure that the CAS player knows which end of the IR beam is the JTAC and which is the target. With a static beam there is great risk of mixup.

    In case everyone's curiouse. And by no means am I trying to take away from this great video by Wags.
    Irl you do NOT need a JTAC to call in an apache. In fact you DO NOT USE A CAS 9 LINE for an apache. The apache has its own 5 line call for fire. The US army makes the Apache callable by anyone, but 90% its our own trained forward observers, who are not JTACs, sometimes they're JFO qualified but they're not JTACs.
    (we need air support and we don't always have the air force/fixed wing to help, this is why the apache is great, and also why we rely heavily on artillery and mortars)
    So for any of you wanting to make super realism missions that are army focuses, you can absolutely use a JTAC, but if you want a Hollywood style troops in contact, know the IRL any soldier is authorized to call in an apache(although ideally its trained army forward observers).
    Basically here's a break down
    Air force, navy, marines, all have JTACs
    US army only has JTACs in Special forces(called SOTACs), while I've heard about army observers going to JTAC school, its not an official thing and usually them getting a hook up
    Further break down
    Fixed wing=always need a JTAC/FAC-A(

      @Raptor_9 2 года назад +1

      Amen.
      It's just a video showing what is possible in DCS, not an instructional video on doctrine. (not directing this at Andrew, just in general)
      Other nations may use AH-64's as a CAS platform, but in the US Army AH-64 teams are a maneuver element, like a tank platoon or infantry squads. And while US AH-64's can be employed using joint CAS TTPs, it's not required.

    • @Raptor_9

    This is awesome with the IR pointer, but why would you create a WP? CM or TG is what is utilized to add a terrain point during JTAC interactions. WP’s are almost solely utilized for route creation only.
    WARNING: Adding a CM without giving a proper IDENT will result in the creation of a friendly control graphic. TG is the most recommended usage for any non-friendly coordinate handovers from a JTAC when adding quickly during kinetic interactions.

    changing the whole AWACS voices and all AI voices.
    And please if it's gonna to change please use the new radio communication rules and add more radio communication words for more and new orders and requests .
    Add several voices for more reality , currently in DCS it's doesn't matter you are at Caucuses or Persian gulf or other maps , you are at Sochi Adler or Sukhumi , all ATC's has same voices with same accents.
    It will be great if we fly at any maps and airports hearing the random different voices with some accents which is close to the region we fly.
    And please add several radio effects on the voices.

    I don't get it; You acquire target based on coordinates. You laze it yourself. Why the IR beam?

    • @MattWagner
      @MattWagner  2 года назад +2

      The target coordinate allowed me to point the TADS to the target location to engage it. The IR Pointer is used to verify the target location. Later, Laser Spot Track will be added to the TADS.

    We need a TACP team in ghille suits that we can hide in some bushes, or the ability to designate a building as a JTAC unit (as if the man is inside lazing targets from a window). Having a humvee parked on a hill 500 miles inside enemy territory looks ridiculous.

    Not a bad video, just a few points to make it actually accurate
    No such thing as Type 2 in effect
    Line 8 most likely wouldn't be 4.5km away, be almost impossible to pick out the target at night
    Troops in Contact wouldn't be in line 4
    The JTAC would never add weather in the remarks, and the pilot would know the cloud deck better than the JTAC
    There's no restrictions for pilot to run in on
    How can the pilot report IP inbound if he wasn't given one in lines 1-3
    Also, Rotary wing doesn't use IP's, they use BP's
    In this sceanrio the IR pointer was almost pointless, the pilot didn't even look for the target and couldn't see it

    • @Driftx73
      @Driftx73 2 года назад +4

      Type 2 is a type of control so it is a thing
      Lines 1-3 can be N/A so that’s accurate
      Line 4 is elevation
      You can give weather info in remarks if it’s a factor

      @Raptor_9 2 года назад +7

      Lines 1-3 can be simply "from the overhead", they aren't always used in conjunction with a location.
      Line 4 is elevation of the target, if you are referring to the JTAC location 4500 meters away in Line 8, they could be 4.5 km away with dedicated targeting optics, especially if they were occupying an overwatch location on high terrain. It depends on whether they are mounted or dismounted, and what equipment they are capable of carrying.
      Restrictions aren't mandatory, although they are common.
      Rotary wing can use IPs or BPs, depending on the tactical situation and what specific attack brief they are given.
      The remainder of the inaccuracies are limitations of the existing JTAC code, which has been the same for about 10 years, which is why some of the situation update is sort of intermixed with the attack brief itself. I'm guessing this more of a demonstration of how to use the JTAC from the AH-64D with point entry and understanding that the TADS can't see the IR pointer, so you need to use the goggles; it's not a class on CAS TTPs or doctrine.

      @@Raptor_9 Why cannot TADS see the laser pointer? Is it that far infrared? But the IR goggles are no thermal cameras either, so why would they be able to?

    • @MattWagner

      That came in a later version of the -64 with the "fused" TADS option. It would not be accurate for this version.

    Hey Matt, could you help me by making a video or reply to my comment. When I play dcs I have this problem where it has a red shield and when I try to join servers it will say pure client required. Thanks!

    • @Raptor_9
      @Raptor_9 2 года назад

      It means you have some sort of modified files in your DCS install. Run a repair, and any "not stock" files will be placed into a folder labeled ".backup000" inside the main DCS install folder.
      The server host is running an integrity check to prevent players from running mods. Some mods pass this integrity check, but some others that alter the base install files will not.
