I now realize that my last pair of cheap boots had the counter cover wear out in about 3 months. so much so the counter liner mesh was falling apart in my boot. it was like walking with little rocks in my boot that I had to shake out every day. I got a pair of razorbacks coming but I just keep watching more and more videos.
I bought a pair of these from your link after watching this video. Got them in three days. Really happy with initial quality. I like a wide toe box. My feet like it anyway. They do look a bit clownish, and could probably be narrowed a bit while still keeping them wider than standard. But it’s no problem. I like the look actually. I’m kinda cartoonish myself. They are very comfortable for me. I was surprised because your review made me slightly worried. But given the ruggedness, I think they’re really quite initially comfortable. I can’t wait to spend more time in them but for the price I think it’s gonna be an excellent “work” chukka. Thanks for your info and all the hard work on behalf of truth and quality. 😊👍👍

The Jim Greens are way more comfortable than the Clarks Desert Boots but the Clarks look better. My favorite chukka right now is the Redwing Work Chukka. Look great and feel good once they're broken in
I was told a story the chukka was designed for the French Foreign Legion's desert actions. How durable are those Red Wings? I worked farm and construction for a solid 6 years in one of their boots. I settled into pressure washing and wore Vietnam Marine Corps jungle boots with no socks because I was wet. I worked those Redwings for 10 more years before I dropped a 1" 4'×8' steel sheet on my toes. The steel crimped and the sheet slid off. Whew. Are they tough? Like a good "summer at the cabin in the woods with an axe" tough?
I have them , really comfortable from day one . Great value guys for working around the house running errands and such. By the way I have a wide foot EE they only come in regular width fit fine.
I’ve been wearing these for a couple of months now and they’re the most comfortable boots I own. The sole is stiff at first but breaks in quickly. Buy your Brannock size and you should be fine.
Your reviews have inspired me to purchase the Jim Green Stockman. The Jim Green similar to Blundstones, and I am so happy with my purchase. They are a great all around boot for work and play.
These chukkas look like a great buy! I just can't get past the two fluorescent yellow tags AND that huge brand on the back of BOTH boots. That said, they look perfect for working in the yard. I have purchased 3 pairs of chukkas in the past 2 months (2 Red Wings Foreman Chukkas - used and now Role Club updated, and 1 Red Wings Work Chukkas.) I really like the chukka style as they offer my old tired feet better support than the Merrell Mules I have been wearing the past 10 years.
I like mine. They have a nice wide toe to allow you to spread out and not feel cramped. I think I will get a different insole soon because I feel it’s a little slippery inside and not much arch support. But overall they are amazing for the price
I ordered a pair of tobacco Vellies after watching your video on the Razorbacks. Jim Green's customer service is excellent. They answered all my questions about chosing size due to my wide feet and I got a well fitting and comfortable shoe on the first try. I've worn the shoes several times a week since receiving them and they have held up extremely well and have only gotten more comfortable. At first I was concerned about preserving the look of the suede but I'm more relaxed about it now, letting it develope some wear and character. These boots are well worth the price. Can't beat the value!
Just ordered the new vellie in black crazy horse leather with a black sole. Looks like it's going to be a good pair. For the record also have two pair of razorbacks and can't say enough good things about this shoe company.
Thanks for sharing all the Jim Green boot review videos. I really have been loving my African Ranger boot in Buffalo leather. Just ordered a pair of the Vellies. Can't wait to wear them!
These boots are extremely good, I have worn many boots from very expensive to normal clarks. These are pretty much better then anything I have had. I now have three of these in different colors. Very affordable and very good. Can not recommend enough and they super comfortable from the start no break in period needed. Having clarks they are way more comfortable for sure not sure how they even compare really.
These are great boots, got them in tan leather off the back of your Razorback review. The only thing I find is the soles are slippery AF on wet surfaces - lino, tiles, even brick can be a bit patchy. I don't know if things are greasier in Australia, but just my view on them. Break in was a few days, just had one heel cup rub up my heel a bit - other than that, all good
@@dtacherra6063 I have the dark brown smooth out version and the light tan suede out (I think the site calls it olive color) version that you see in the video. the brown ones get all the complements. the tan ones not as many. they're both super comfortable. buy them man. you can't get a better shoe for the money. they're not all floppy like Clark's they're an actual shoe that will take care of your foot.

Good news! As of Aug 23 Jim Greene boots are once again available in the US and shipping. Also, Jim Greene said they'd be raising prices on the Vellies but right now they're the same price as they were earlier this year. I don't know if the discount code still works but even if it doesn't, the price for these chukkas is still more than reasonable.
I was looking around for wide, non goretex, fully leather boots and almost gave up searching until I found Jim Green. Amazing price and finally exactly what I was looking for!
@@BOOGiNS That shoe is nothing like the boots I was after (AR8 from JG were) Also a quick google search reveals the K6 you are promoting has a very thin fake looking "leather" lining on the ankle that is very prone to simply tearing and breaking off from use. Amazon review with pictures shows its like a 0.1mm thick flimsly layer... The back of the boot is also lined with some sort of cloth / fabric and not a leather lining like on JG... And I'm not from the US so I dont really care to order something from the US with all the extra cost that comes from it. Thanks for the recommendation but I wouldnt consider those boots "better".
I gotta give a shout put to jim greens customer support. Not to sound like a Shill, but after watching Rose Anvils review of the Razorback. It flared my interest in getting some nice all rounder casual/hiking boots. Fell in love with the Vellie design (turbo version). And planning to order a pair from them as soon as my salary hits. Since they dont have a shop in EU, and their US store page was out of stock, I contacted them about how to get them about how to get em shipped to Norway They were increadible quick on their email response (the very next day if not faster). Guided me through sizing to make sure I would order a pair that would fit me. Not only that, they tipped me about this video and a 10% discount following it! Here I was more than willing to pay fill price for a pair and they tipped me about a discount if I waited! This has really impressed me, if my salary bonus allows me, I might buy a pair of their waterproof workboots to test them out with my line of job as and see if I can get my company interested in covering the cost of them if my fellow colleagues decide to want a pair also!
I like my razorbacks but I think they are way too hard on your legs and knees. They definitely need more cushioning. Just switched the insoles so I hope that helps. I’d like to get a pair of vellies but worried they maybe too firm as well.
I've been wearing the Razorback for a couple weeks now and I'm really liking them. I just ordered this boot too. Should be noted the prices are a decent amount higher now. Still a great value IMO.
Bought a pair of these along with a pair of Currex workpro for the insoles, winning combination of extreme comfort. Will it beat the comfort of a leather insole boots that are broken in? No, but for $130 along with the Currex insoles included, it can't be beat. Love the Jim Green Vellie.
If I have boots that have a flimsy counter cover I take them to my favourite shoe repair shop and have a durable counter cover put in the heel. It just prolongs my boots. My motorcycle boots were done when new.
I've been looking at getting Jim Greene . Almost picked up a pair of work boots a month ago . BTW I'm in South Africa. Pretty much sold on them now . Thanks for the good content.
I'm late to this party but based on your review, bought some Vellies. I liked the price and the look, even the goofy wide toe box because of my goofy wide feet. It will be more of a casual boot for me but really well built and comfortable even though they are stiffer than the popular posers. Anyway... thanks loads for your great work and honest reviews.
Great review! I can’t decide if I should get the razorbacks or the monster, I’d love to see a video on the monster to see how they compare to the razorbacks.
I have narrow feet and I don't see these boots fitting me. Too much room for my toes. I just want a normal size boot. All people don't have wide feet. I wish boot and shoe company would make a normal size. I love to watch you video and content. It's always good to know what's inside of shoes/boots and how their made. Great video and content
I bought a pair of JG Vellies a while back. For me, dropping a full size from my usual US shoes/boots got the right length, and I really appreciate the width. I'll replace the laces and insole eventually.
Been wearing the JG Razorback steel toe for quite a while here at work. I have foot issues and with a spenco total support max insole they became wearable enough that they quit causing my nerve zaps. The other night I put the max supports in my African rangers which owing to arch issues I haven’t been able to wear. Well that’s fixed and one of my most comfortable pairs of shoes is back in action. I’m probably going to put a softer insole in my razorbacks again or buy another total support max next pay
Thanks to JG custom options I ordered the Turbo Vellie with a more narrow last, the ASHM used on the Shoellie, and with a softer outsole and a leather midsole. So I eliminated all the features mentioned as less favorable. I added a leather toe cap for extra durability.
Rose Anvil, could you do a leather video on jackets? Maybe its not youre expertise but I dont see anyone that could do a better job than you regarding leather.
I’ve got something on the “nicer” end of chukka boots - a pair of suede Loake 1880 Kemptons purchased about 10 years ago. Wear them about once a week for three seasons out of the year, and they’re still on their first sole.
Hi Weston, I really like your videos and wondered if you could cut in half some Gant Gretty chelsea boots, some Barbour Chiltern and Barbour Topsail boots please? I have the Timberland yellow 6 inch and I have the Blundstone 550s. I bought the Blundstone boots after watching your video, I already had the Timberland boots and after watching your video about the difference between the boots, I was pleased I had the premium sole and not the basic, really good videos, I've watched most of them now, extremely interesting work
The crazy horse leather vellies have a softer rubber compound compared to the regular vellies for the outsole. I have the charcoal black vellies and they are comfy for all day wear whereas my reg vellies need a softer insole.
As a video idea for your Chukka boot series if you wish you should look into reviewing Riekers F1310 Boots. One of the more unknown brands I think you'd be interested in. I love your videos! Keep up the good work Weston!
Have you done video yet on a Jim Green boot that came with their new insole ? I just got a pair of these khaki Vellies yesterday, and noticed that it has a different insole then this. It's a calfskin topped fiber material like this, but is not sewn around and has a black soft plastic arch support thing at the back which is interesting. They don't feel har or anything, but I've only been walking my dog, doing a few small projects in my workshop, and walking in some loose creekbed gravel. I just barely discovered the insole construction about an hour ago, and based on how they feel under my foot I never would have imagined this. Just leather a felted material, and a plastic or very hard rubber arch support. Honestly they seem like a better design than those insoles.
Well wish I had seen this video with the discount code yesterday lol. I watched one of your other videos the other day and it convinced me to order the razorbacks which i did this morning. So now its to late to use the discount code. Oh well still a good price anyway. Very impressed I ordered this morning and by this afternoon I got notification they already shipped. Can't wait to get them.
took forever to break these in (I got them maybe 9 months ago), but I really love them. that being said, I've found the counter cover has a tendency to stain the heels of (especially white) socks brown.
I bought a pair of these in the tan leather for $63 after discounts on Amazon back in June of 2021. I couldn't resist for the price. I've worn Clark's Buschacre 2 for a number of years before that. They constantly wore out on me in less then a year. These look as new as the day I bought them and are just amazing. They are also MUCH more comfortable then the Clark's. The Clark's have no ankle support, The toe box is so narrow that I would stretch and eventually bust the sides of the shoes, the lack of a shank also makes them uncomfortable while walking as you have no support in your arch. They also just don't have much cushion in the insole. I would buy the Jim Green's 100 times over for buying another Clark. The only negative thing I have to say about them is I do wish the toe box profile was a bit more sleek and not so rounded. I don't need it that wide but it's definitely still better than it being too narrow.
Next you should review the Corcoran Marauders, I've heard them lasting over a decade and still in great condition, I got pair on the way, and I'm curious of your option and them in half. Stay safe man, keep up the great work
These boots reminded me of what my late father used to wear back in the 80s, especially the Suede Vellie Chocolate. I am gonna buy me a pair and show them to my mom, let's see if she would remember what my dad used to wear :-).
Any chance the Red Wing Work Chukka is on your list? The 595 chukka has been around since the 60s and the modern Heritage versions are great updates to the design. A shame to miss such a classic during your big chukka face off
Prices on these have picked up over the years. They are around $130-140 currently but I picked up a pair of these in tan roughout for $100 (my third pair of JG). They are unbeatable at that price. I can’t imagine getting more shoe for the same price anywhere else.
Love your videos! You’ve been doing some sneakers lately. I wondered if you would ever get around to doing even some Mocs or boat shoes. If that’s not your thing, that’s okay! I just haven’t seen much good content regarding these kinds of shoes on RUclips. Thanks for being so fun and awesome!
Hey love your content and Jim Green products. I wanted to see if you have thought about cutting up some Jim Green African Ranger boots. I'm thinking of picking a pair up for the summer. I do environmental work ( wetland and stormwater treatment for a living. My Razorbacks are indestructible after 2 years and I want something new. If I buy some Ill drop you a note on them. Thanks again,
Wishing I had waited to buy my clarks and picked some of these up instead. They are much more my style, And they have a shank great every day chillin/yard work boot thanks man I appreciate the work you put into your videos anyway all the best from Northern California 👍
I've had my eye on Clark's chukka boot and Wallabee for a long time, so I'm quite excited for this series just to see what the Clark's and the competition is like!
The wallies are definitely long lasting, and very comfortable if you remove the hard insole in favor of a cheap memory foam one. All the comfort is in the gum sole. Gum soled shoes and boots are just the most comfortable shoes I own.
I am VERY heavy on my heels. Hollow/voids in the heels will always collapse longbefore the sole or upper wears out. I think Clakes solid soleis the one for me.
I just got a pair of these in the mail in my usual boot size 10.5, and slipped them on to see how they fit. Initial impression: these are comfy. I was nervous about getting a pair of Jim Greens because I have heard they're "hard under foot." Maybe, I'll experience that as I break them in, but I got them on right now, and they feel like a sturdy pair of slippers compared to my daily wear boots. Update: I took a little jaunt around the block. These feel Nice. I'm Very excited to wear these to work the next few days. These should make for a nice lighter weight boot for the summer.
I’ve been wearing Clark’s almost daily for 3 years and they’re still holding up great. I’m excited for this series because they will eventually need replaced and I would like something a bit more comfortable for longer walks. Also the Jim Greens look like clown shoes from the top-down view lol.
I wanna like them more, but my dad and I both find they're a bit too hard and uncomfortable under foot even after I replaced the insole. I think it's the outsole being too hard? He's still wearing his in, but he's had them for over a year and usually can't wait to take them off. I'm hoping maybe when it comes time for a resole, we can put a squishier sole on. Otherwise, I really do like the design a lot.
@RoseAnvil please do a series on Veldskoens, not the brand (they hijacked the name of our bush boots) they're also known as desert boots, chukka boot, safari boots, veldtschoen, velskoen and affectionately in Southern Africa as “vellies” They make them in springbok hide, water buffalo leather, kudu leather as well as from Nguni (native cattle breed). 🇿🇦
That is the only shoes I wore in South Africa as a child and still do. The Rhodesian War up to 1980 the RLI (Rhodesian Light Infantry) wore Vellies. I am very hard on boots and shoes and I used to go through 2 pairs a year and then I would have it resole with a very aggressive sole, like an upgrade for me. If something last in Africa then it will last anywhere.
I had a pair of Clarks and they were really nice boots. But I gave em away because they ran big by literally like 2 full sizes. So I'm curious for this series which boots run closer to true to size.
@@mrgt3201 I wear 13s and I got 12s and they were still so big that two sets of inserts still couldn’t make them snug enough to not literally slip clean off my feet while walking.
@@mrgt3201 Both US and UK sizes were listed. They were 12 US. I dunno why you wanna try to insinuate I'm lying or wrong or something. I'm not disparaging Clarks shoes, I wish they had fit. I'm just saying they were gigantic.

I was looking around for wide, non goretex, fully leather boots and almost gave up searching until I found Jim Green. Amazing price and finally exactly what I was looking for!
The Eddie Bauer k6 are way better at the same price.
@@BOOGiNS That shoe is nothing like the boots I was after (AR8 from JG were)
Also a quick google search reveals the K6 you are promoting has a very thin fake looking "leather" lining on the ankle that is very prone to simply tearing and breaking off from use.
Since they dont have a shop in EU, and their US store page was out of stock, I contacted them about how to get them about how to get em shipped to Norway
They were increadible quick on their email response (the very next day if not faster).
Got a pair of Razorbacks in May/2021. I have a wide foot so I think that these chukka boots all right up my alley.
I've been looking at getting Jim Greene . Almost picked up a pair of work boots a month ago .
BTW I'm in South Africa. Pretty much sold on them now .
Thanks for the good content.
Chukka boots are a must have imo. Clarks are my first love but been looking at these Jim greens
More Jim Green's, nice.
Also, I kind of like the wide look, it almost reminds me of a Munson last.
I don’t have any but I wore my Razorbacks for the first time today to work and they were so awesome.
Try reviewing the Guido Mocassines desert boot from Argentina. Another great value, especially due to the currently.
Hey man, thanks for this showcase and breakdown. I'm ordering my Jim Greens now. Greetings from Johannesburg, South Africa
Rose Anvil, could you do a leather video on jackets? Maybe its not youre expertise but I dont see anyone that could do a better job than you regarding leather.
Ooohhhh I’m excited for this series!
I’ve got something on the “nicer” end of chukka boots - a pair of suede Loake 1880 Kemptons purchased about 10 years ago. Wear them about once a week for three seasons out of the year, and they’re still on their first sole.
Hi Weston,
I really like your videos and wondered if you could cut in half some Gant Gretty chelsea boots, some Barbour Chiltern and Barbour Topsail boots please? I have the Timberland yellow 6 inch and I have the Blundstone 550s. I bought the Blundstone boots after watching your video, I already had the Timberland boots and after watching your video about the difference between the boots, I was pleased I had the premium sole and not the basic, really good videos, I've watched most of them now, extremely interesting work
The crazy horse leather vellies have a softer rubber compound compared to the regular vellies for the outsole. I have the charcoal black vellies and they are comfy for all day wear whereas my reg vellies need a softer insole.
I trust and value this guys opinion! One word that comes to mind is integrity.
Stay safe man, keep up the great work
I own 4 pairs. they're my favorite shoe. I get tons of compliments and at 120 a pair they're a steal.
Thank you for the info I just bought two pair Amazon had a great sale $65👍
These boots reminded me of what my late father used to wear back in the 80s, especially the Suede Vellie Chocolate. I am gonna buy me a pair and show them to my mom, let's see if she would remember what my dad used to wear :-).
Thanks for the review-a suggestion for future reviews: give quick tips on cleaning/care/conditioning. How do you condition rough out chromexel?
Hey @Rose Anvil, can you do a review on Patagonias Wild Idea Work Boots?
Any chance the Red Wing Work Chukka is on your list? The 595 chukka has been around since the 60s and the modern Heritage versions are great updates to the design. A shame to miss such a classic during your big chukka face off
Prices on these have picked up over the years. They are around $130-140 currently but I picked up a pair of these in tan roughout for $100 (my third pair of JG). They are unbeatable at that price. I can’t imagine getting more shoe for the same price anywhere else.
Pleas don't put an ADD at the moment of the cut in half reveal, it ruins the moment. thanks & can't wait to see the rest of this series :)
The heal is a big disappointment. I always wondered why comfy looking shoes were uncomfortable. Great work Rose!
Would you consider reviewing Corcoran Jump Boots?
Love me some chukka...
Ugh, was liking until the top down view
Yea its not really a style boot, more of a very well made work/every day kind of boot.
Thanks again,
You should cut open the converse move platform hi tops and comment on if they’re quality cons
Hi mate get some high end chainsaw boots there extremely good quality just a thought 💭
I would absolutely wear these with a suit and tie, except I hardly ever wear a suit and tie. These look sharp!
Wishing I had waited to buy my clarks and picked some of these up instead. They are much more my style, And they have a shank great every day chillin/yard work boot thanks man I appreciate the work you put into your videos anyway all the best from Northern California 👍
Cut in half Viberg boots or maybe Canada west? Show a pair of Canadian boots some love.
I've had my eye on Clark's chukka boot and Wallabee for a long time, so I'm quite excited for this series just to see what the Clark's and the competition is like!
Rossi ripples are the coolest and best and available atm my style
The wallies are definitely long lasting, and very comfortable if you remove the hard insole in favor of a cheap memory foam one. All the comfort is in the gum sole. Gum soled shoes and boots are just the most comfortable shoes I own.
@@MOFsquadron Thank you so much for the information!
Update:
I took a little jaunt around the block.
Yeah, they're not fashion boots. To me, that is a good thing.
Well the Jim green razorbacks are the same way in their appearance, Hower they don’t have a bulky clownish appearance from the mirror POV.
@@joeybaseball7352 why not?
@@joeybaseball7352 What do you base this on?
I wanna like them more, but my dad and I both find they're a bit too hard and uncomfortable under foot even after I replaced the insole. I think it's the outsole being too hard? He's still wearing his in, but he's had them for over a year and usually can't wait to take them off. I'm hoping maybe when it comes time for a resole, we can put a squishier sole on. Otherwise, I really do like the design a lot.
I think you make the price of Jim Green go up. They're now $120 instead of $90. But that's everything now.
What about Panama Jack ?
I think this vellie looks great. Many people don't like the look but in South Africa the ladies love a man with a nice vellie like this.
Any insight on what a "Simulated Welt Construction" is, what Jim Green use in their "Town and Country" boot?
Chukka, Chukka...Chukka Kahn, Chukka Kahn... love these boots ❤
Please could you do a video on best black dress shoes like Oxfords, Derbys and maybe Brogues like you did with the 'best white sneakers'?
That is the only shoes I wore in South Africa as a child and still do. The Rhodesian War up to 1980 the RLI (Rhodesian Light Infantry) wore Vellies. I am very hard on boots and shoes and I used to go through 2 pairs a year and then I would have it resole with a very aggressive sole, like an upgrade for me.
If something last in Africa then it will last anywhere.
Hi, can you please review the La Sportiva Makalu? Thank you
I had a pair of Clarks and they were really nice boots. But I gave em away because they ran big by literally like 2 full sizes.
So I'm curious for this series which boots run closer to true to size.
I have the vellies and razorback. Both run true to size.
Clarks definitely don't run big at all. They're true to size. Are you sure you got the correct size ?
@@mrgt3201 I wear 13s and I got 12s and they were still so big that two sets of inserts still couldn’t make them snug enough to not literally slip clean off my feet while walking.
@@thebreakfastmenu are you American ? The Clarks are in UK sizes which are different the American sizes.
@@mrgt3201 Both US and UK sizes were listed.
They were 12 US. I dunno why you wanna try to insinuate I'm lying or wrong or something. I'm not disparaging Clarks shoes, I wish they had fit. I'm just saying they were gigantic.
