Hey I was am looking for a budget casual boot company is. Portland leather, looks like a new brand/rebrand. Have you heard anything about them?
Will they be making wide or extra wide sizes?
Make this in steel toe !
@mickbadgero5457 looks like these are already wide maybe size up half size for extra wide
@@leviwilson7157 "Portland leather"
Cheap materials and cheap construction. BUT...they are available. I live a short drive from Portland Leather.
Been a pleasure meeting your team and working on this together, a great bunch and passionate about crafted goods. Other than a great boot the difference that is made to each Ranger that will get a new pair goes a lot further than one thinks or understands. Another big thanks to all that have supported our journey so far.
Can this boot be made with a sole plate to increase rigidity? Purpose is for motorcycle riding so I don’t collapse the sole.
Also I’m curious how the sizing matches up with other brands. Is it true to size or does it run a half small/large?
Literally just bought a pair based on the Rose Anvil 2 video earlier today. So happy for the collab and hoping you guys come out with some buffalo leather barefoot rangers soon.
Any way I could custom order a US size 15 version of this in Houston Brown?
Just bought my pair. Very excited and I have been wearing barefoot shoes and my African rangers for about a year now and this is the perfect product for me. Thanks for working together and releasing this product.
Just bought myself a pair, this boot is filling a void that I've been looking for. I have been wanting a pair of barefoot boots that have a thicker outsole that's good for hiking and is also durable enough to last I'm excited to try these out. Also big thank you to Rose Anvil for being pioneers in the footwear game and taking things outside of the normal footprint to allow for new innovations to take effect. I can see this starting a new path in the barefoot footwear industry that we have been needing for a while.

😢u😢uu ok
He also cut apart another alternative the Bearfoot ones which are also well made and not as limited.
Oh man, I thought it was going to be made out of poachers. :(
Human leather wouldn't last long enough for the rangers to get poacher skin for a replacement.
@rdr2v1nce7 they should do an annual limited edition
@@KraziEyevin❤❤❤❤❤😂. Like the way you think.😊
what???????????????????
No, but there are lions that are. 😄
I have been wearing Jim Green boots for more than 25 years in construction , engineering, boating and adventure biking. I have 11 pairs from the B5(2) to Razorbacks. I wear through about 2 soles per year. I rotate them a lot and wear nothing else. I use the B5 with very thin sole to walk the steel when rigging structures because of the support and flexibility(first pair I ever bought) Every few years I pack the worn boots in a box and send them back to Crouch. 3 weeks later they arrive back as good as new. Not one upper has ever given up. I reckon that is the best lifetime Guarantee I have come across. I may try the Ranger but the conditions on the Cape West Coast are fairly harsh so I may just stick with my Razorbacks. Truly the most honest product I have ever come across Thank you guys
That's a lot of time on your feet. I didn't go through a set of Red Wing soles after 18 months on a Navy ship, walking the decks and non-slip daily.
Just placed my order for the Barefoot Boots plus a Freedom Bracelet! Went back-and-forth on the boot color, but ultimately went with Fudge for its patina factor. Huge kudos to Jim Green for reaching out to Rose Anvil, for being open to creating a pretty significant variation on a core product, and for taking the financial risk on pre-manufacturing a reasonably large run of these boots. And huge kudos as well to Weston for making such great choices on this boot! As many other commenters have noted, this is exactly what I've been looking for for some time-a genuine work boot that's anatomically shaped and features no heel-ball offset. Thank you to Jim Green and Rose Anvil for bringing this product into the world!
Hell yeah, this is exactly what I need. My Lems Boulders are great, very comfortable, but it's hard to justify the cost for a boot you can't have resoled. You've made a durable, repairable barefoot boot from a know and reputable manufacturer. Impressive.
I have the leather waterproof boulder boots with the 'pedestrian' style outsoles with hundreds of miles on them. This year I had my cobbler "resole" them by sanding them down and cementing new vibram zegama 1443 outsoles, which coincidentally and suspiciously look like rose anvils design😅. I exclusively use them on dirt/gravel trails but the contact cement approach seems to be good enough for my usage*. I purchased the outsoles($30) and the cobbler charged $35.
Been wearing casual and military/work boots for 20+ years. I bought a pair of their normal African Rangers earlier this year and absolutely love em. The owner described them as 'little tanks on your feet' and I agree. They're comfortable and tough, and I think they're also ruggedly handsome. And, they also allow a wider foot. May have to take a look at these barefoot deals. Wife's gonna scalp me haha
i have had my pair of African rangers for over a year, they are a great boot, I'm in Mn, and it handled the snow really well, not just the dirt. I also really like the look of this boot, might have to get a second pair.
you just sold them to me. i was thinking maybe if it's made for warmer climates it's not going to be the best for north european climate and well now it's changed
@@timofeigarbuzovI have a pair of razorbacks that are my winter shtkicker boots. Excellent when dealing with blizzards in the north east here, handles ice, slush, everything. Just have to wash off the salt stains after the season
Do you find these are pretty water resistant when snosealed/obenhaufed?
@@ninemimesleft I just put regular oil on them, I forgot the name of the brand and they held up really well, my feet never got wet. That being said I never stepped directly into a large puddle, just normal walking and shoveling snow in them.
@@timofeigarbuzov I also live in Minnesota. Until it gets real cold, wearing the boots and a good pair of Murino wool socks works. Like all footwear be carful on the ice. I use a bees wax conditioner called Snow eal to improve the ability to shed water an snow
Thank you for making this video and all the hard work you put into designing this boot.
This is the perfect boot that I was looking for. I swapped over to barefoot shoes 2 years ago and wanted a pair of boots that still felt good on my feet. This fits all the things I was looking for. Thank you.
Keep up the amazing work!
As a long time watcher, and wearer of quality hiking boots (Danners, Lowas, Alico, ect) and various barefoot shoes and boots, I must say, finally someone did it. I must say when I first saw the African Ranger and considered getting I pair, I was like this almost a real minimalist boot and man if they just adjusted the last a bit and only made it zero drop they could have the perfect and simplest full leather zero drop hiker. And well you did it. Though I think it might be interesting if they offered a toe stiffened option too, but got balance manufacturering logistics....this is awesome. Thanks for making the perfect barefoot hiker!
I am loving that more and more people are making good looking minimalist shoes/boots. I pretty much can't wear regular shoes for casual wear.
Good looking? seriously?
Yeah, my issue with "barefoot" style shoes is they're usually cheap and gimmicky. We need more quality products to fill some voids. I may buy some of these myself.
@@ruzziasht349 Compared to the average anatomical shoe yes.
@@spht9ng
True.
This is exactly the kind of boot I was looking for. Wide toe box but has a tougher sole that you can have repaired when it wears out
This boot came out just in time! Just moved to PNW and have been needing to get some boots. During my search, I fell in love with the idea of boots that can be repaired instead of replaced, and I also learned about the concept of barefoot shoes and definitely wanted to get a boot that can actually fit my toes comfortably. I couldn't find any leather barefoot boots that can be repaired easily, and just when I was about to give up, here they are! Just bought a pair. Hopefully, they will add a Razorback barefoot option in the future.
Almost exactly the same for me. I live in Florida, so it gets crazy hot and humid, I love the wide toe box and zero drop of barefoot shoes, and I want good leather repairable boots that have these features, but I haven't been successful in finding any until now.
I emailed them about customizations and got back that they may be able to do a custom that has the same liner and leather as the razorback.
Barefoot shoes and wide toeboxes is not the same thing
This is an incredible project. This seems like the perfect boot to start my barefoot journey. Really happy to see all the foot health learnings come together like this. To top it off, it's a looker and the kind of company I want to support. Love it ❤️
Ordered a pair of Rangers after I saw your earlier review, wow what a boot! Tough, durable and comfortable (after a considerable break-in period). Never regretted this boot, it kicks butt.
Do they run true to size?
@@ageofgaslightenment don't know, only have the one 9 1/2 that fits very well.
@@ageofgaslightenment I bought the first / regular Rangers (not the barefoot kind) and found they accommodated my wider feet. Length was pretty spot on
Mine just got here, and I'm so excited to have a quality boot that's zero drop and flexible. It's exactly what I wanted, and I'm so happy you guys were able to collab and make this dream boot a reality!
Maybe after this we could see a Jim green razorback barefoot.
Currently there is nothing on the market for someone who wants a zero drop wide toebox boot for work that requires a steel toe cap.
Seeing that from Jim green would really be something.
This boot looks quality and I bet they'll look even better once broken in. Thanks for the explanation about the decision to make it sneaker height. I'm sure African Rangers have a harder earned opinion that me but I would love to see this boot with and 8" height (like military boots). I've been looking for that type of thing for ages. Good work and Thanks for the videos.
It’s great to hear how proud you are of this collaboration 😊. Such a good cause.
For all the people in EU/UK, I contacted Jim Green yesterday and they did advise they had some via their website as well which would allow you to avoid taxes ... Alas, I was busy this evening so now almost all they had are out of stock but if you click through the sizes I think there are a couple left in larger ones.
Gutted I missed these but hope this helps someone with larger feet and who is outside the US and still wants a pair without the import taxes. (UK doesn't have duties AFAIK for example)
Looks like I was just too late to order size 13.5 (who else does half sizes that big?!) to the UK and pre-order doesn't let you ship outside US as far as I can see
Outstanding! Boots with a story are the best.
I’ve appreciated all the specific info you’ve put out over the years, and I was really happy to see you start reviewing barefoot footwear. Could you do a series on winter (waterproof and warm) barefoot boots?
This is such an awesome collaboration! Quality workmanship, quality materials, quality design, at a reasonable price.
Gotta give you mad props for giving a balanced and open review. The boot isn’t perfect, but perfect doesn’t exist when the use and environment can vary so much.
Many thanks to you, Jim Green boots, and especially the African Rangers!
I've been on a barefoot shoe path for a while. Way back from vibram toe shoes, a bunch of barefoot sneakers, and most recently, the vivo barefoot trackers. I absolutely love the look of this boot and will be picking one up! Great job with this!
Hey - I bought a pair of the Jim Green's based on your video. They arrived the other day and I must say I LOVE these boots! I was looking for a good alternative to my iron rangers (which I also decided to purchase based in part of your videos) for biking around Brooklyn in the winter. I bought mine true to size (8 m) and they're perfect, I can even wear fairly thick socks and feel good in them. As a martial artist, I also love the fact that these are barefoot and have a very good middle ground between ankle protection and mobility.
I can say with relief that my search for my lifetime's worth of quality boots is complete with the Iron Ranger (for really bad weather and long days) and the Jim Green's (for hiking and fairer weather, maybe even training!)
Thanks so much for your quality views and sharing your expertise in your field. It's led to me finding my 2 pairs of boots for life!
-P
I am 70 years old now but as a teenager I would sometimes use army surplus Vietnam boots for hiking. They had a lightweight nylon canvas type upper, a thin metal plate near the arch for punji stick protection, and I think a couple perforated metal air vents near the arch on the instep to let water out. They were quite breathable, the vents maybe 1/2" in diameter thin metal set almost like eyelets, with very tiny openings, enough to block coarse sand I think. I would think ventilation would be an asset in Africa as well as long as the openings were the right size. There was one random looking tread design that attempted to confuse trackers trying to tell which direction the person was traveling. A later design had more sole protection armor.
I got lucky and found a couple pairs in surplus shops, and I loved them. Haven't seen any in a while. Too bad.
This is the boot I’ve been looking for. Barefoot/zero drop “boots” kinda suck durability wise. Ordered 👍🏼
I just ordered a pair! I was planning on buying some barefoot boots here soon anyways and I’m glad I saw the email to check out the video! It checked all the boxes I was looking for with it being a real barefoot boot (zero drop and wide toe box), leather construction, and most of all being easily repairable…also the price was nice too. This has been the only barefoot boot I’ve seen that has everything I could ask for! Great job to you and the Jim green company!
Did you have to pre order?
Great collaboration...love the Jim Green boots and their approach to making it.
My pair of these just arrived, and I couldn't be more pleased with them! I love your footwear philosophy and that you're managing to partner up with such excellent manufacturers is just brilliant. My feet thank you!
Nice that the company listened to your thoughts. Nice to have such a company which is really interested in their customers
. Greetings from over Europe ✌️
This is some good work. I've had a pair of African Rangers for a little over a year and you've addressed most of the issues I've started running into. Getting rid of the compressed fiber board toe liner is step forward. They held up for about 8 months in my boots before starting to fall apart, to which they were easy enough to just rip out. The matted fiber insole of the old rangers has held up fairly well but in the last 2 months both shoes now have a split in the midsole that run the entire width of the shoe. Wasn't to happy to find that out as I believe it is going to negatively impact my ability to resole the boots. I do wish the composite heel liner would have been upgraded to leather or removed though. Where the composite board follows the upper under the stitch's to the outside of the boot around the heal I've had chunks start breaking off.
I recently got myself a pair of the African Rangers here in South Africa and I'm really enjoying them. Interesting changes with the sole on this barefoot edition. If I ever need a 2nd pair I might try these.
Preordered mine they showed up January 8th as promised and I love them. I ordered my normal size and they fit perfectly. They are my first barefoot style footwear and my feet and calves are tired after work but not in pain. Thank you RoseAnvil for all your knowledge and style.
Got my barefoot ranger boot this week thanks to these videos. I love the concept and the actual boots, so proud of these, THANKS!
I love that the owners see that a great product is bringing in money so they share that with the workers. That just incentivized them to make the perfect boot. Damn I gotta purchase their boots to further cement that amazing premise.
I hope this brand continues to grow! I had no idea they existed. Go South Africa and those awesome Rangers!
Wanted a boot like this for over ten years. Thank you, Weston and Jim Green Boots!
placed my order this morning, I can't wait! I've become totally converted to anatomical shoes and I can't wear my Vans anymore without horrible foot pain. I've got a few pairs of sneakers I like, but I was worried about what would happen when I had to face the Colorado winter. I was looking at Bearfoot Bruin boots, and while they're nice, I wasn't totally in love with them, and they're really starting to push my footwear budget. These Jim Greens look like they'll be perfect, and I love the look and construction! I'm thinking I might have to swap the outsole for something more snow capable, but I love how easy that will be. Thank you so much for this collab, it's a total dream come true for me!
Wide toe box.... Thank you so much!
Interesting shoe. It’s almost like the Blazers you keep cutting apart, except made with leather all around. A leather sock on top of a rubber sole. The simplicity of it is cool.
Preordered a pair. I live in rural Central Florida and have been wanting a boot like this forever. Thank you for putting it together.
@RoseAnvil & @JimGreen I just preordered a pair of these puppies from here in the United States. I’ve been searching far and wide for a pair of barefoot boots with specs just like yours and finally found the buried treasure ! I cannot wait to receive these boots and throw them on my feet! Thank you guys SO MUCH keep doing what your doing you are an inspiration!
I live in the socal desert and its 115f regularly here in the summer and ive been looking for exactly this. A barefoot boot that is leather lined so it don’t stink as much. I would use the boulder boot from lems but its got a flannel lining which makes it too hot. Love it, exactly what i was looking for.
Awesome looking boot! I wear the African Ranger standard regularly.
Just got mine in the mail today, I will say the craftsmanship on this boot is incredible. Easily the coolest piece I now have in my collection! Going to be a great conversation starter, I’m looking forward to that first “hey what are those that you’re wearing?”
I like the versatility and simplicity shown here. When my current hiking boots will fail one day, I will seriously consider this as a replacement.
I love my Jim green African rangers. I’ve been wearing mine every day working construction for 4 months and these boots have been perfect. Extremely comfortable and very durable. Not hot at all during the summer. I usually can only get 6 months out of my boots, but other than the leather getting a nice patina, they still look brand new. Would love to try these barefoot boots for my non working shoes.
Job well done. Love the wide toe box too. These also look good with jeans as a fashion item. I would seriously consider getting a pair to wear casually, possibly just with an insole for a bit of extra arch support
Thanks to the information from this channel, I bought myself a pair of Razorbacks after trying numerous classic US work boots, and I'm incredibly impressed with the quality and comfort. For the price (I believe $179 USD when I got mine, 2023), you simply cannot find a better quality boot anywhere else. After just 2 days of use, they fit my feet so nicely and I can tell they're going to last me many years :) I particularly like that the lower profile keeps the boots from pinching where it would crease if they were 8" or taller. Highly recommend!!
I love it. I’ve been dreaming of this boot for about a decade now. Thank you !!
Just got my african ranger barefoot boots- great boots for the money. Wide toe box, well made.
Weston is South African, this is cannon now. Zero drop (as barefoot as a boot can go) and the climate friendly mid top height (heavier boots can get uncomfortable in our summers) is something that we know we need and you can see the implementation in our default footwear (vellies if you wanna look it up). This shoe takes the basic concepts and just elevates it to a whole other level.
This honestly looks like a perfect everyday boot for a lot of people! Can't wait to get a pair!
Thank you, I too have recently gone the zero drop/barefoot route and gave up hope on finding a proper boot. Just placed my order!!!
Just bought mine! I hope they come in black someday
I hope they keep making these, because you’re right. These are the only wide toe box, zero drop, full leather shoes on the market. I want that hole to stay filled.
This is the perfect boot for me. I almost exclusively wear leather loafers that are pretty much flat with no support. Chunky soled boots make my arches hurt. My feet just need basic protection because they are strong and dont need support. I just ordered these today. Very excited about them. Keep up the good work!
I'll be buying a pair this week! I've been watching since you first posted about these amazing boots! Thank You All!
Proudly South African 🇿🇦 Great boots
I started my adult life in the infantry and special forces walking an insane couple thousand miles. Feet were fine in old school jungle boots. As a civilian I moved to thick padded keen boots. Totally destroyed my feet. Minimal as close to barefoot is everything for long miles.
I hear this often and i always wonder if it's more a case of the thousands of miles in jungle boots(or just the miles in general) just destroying your feet combined with age.
I just received my Jim Green African Ranger Barefoot boots after I ordered them 3 days ago. I stay in South Africa. So far they are pretty comfortable and I can't wait to have fully worn them in. I also have the Jim Green Razor Backs and as soon as my budget allows, I will buy the Jim Green Shoelie or the Vellie. Love these boots, they are tough and they can be repaired. Great videos by the way. The Razor Backs I bought in 2018 and they still look and feel almost new, very tough boot but also a little harder to wear/break in.
Received mine in France from Jim Green's South African site, you guys rock !! Been looking for this exact design for years ! Thanks for this prpject and your content
Just started transitioning over to barefoot about 2 weeks ago. This looks like an awesome option for a work boot for me. I hesitated to order though, due to my rather fresh start in the barefoot world. I work construction, and love the looks of this boot. Trying to decode if I should take the plunge and pre order a pair
If you haven't decided yet, let me help. A huge yes! These boots are fantastic! I suggest an insole, though. My usual boots, I get extra wides. These are slightly wider, and an insole helps fill that smidge of extra space for a snug ( and very comfortable) fit.
@@JacobE-23 thank you for the input
I could cry, these boots are phenomenal. They are a perfected version of the Lems Boulder boot. If I didn’t already have a pair of those I would 100% be getting a pair. I would love to regardless but idk if I can convince my wife to get another pair of boots that to her seem identical to the good pair I already have, lol.
Exactly, I kind of wish I had these instead. The boulder boot toebox is a little bit narrow!
@@paddywiggle You think the toebox on these would be wider than on a boulder boot? It doesn't look as if it is to me.
By the way, might be relevant that standard advice on the boulder boot is to go a half size or even a whole size up. I went a half size up and mine fit my wide feet better than most other barefoot shoes I've tried.
I ordered lems boulder boots last night 😢
Dam it
very happy for you, been watching your videos for years!
Honestly being former army infantryman. This is a perfect boot for ground troops. I honestly would take this into combat. And an infatrymans feet are his most important gear. Well done guys and I'm gonna snag up a pair as soon as I can.
I ordered a pair and I’m looking forward to having a nearly zero drop work boot. I almost didn’t get a pair because of that half sock liner, any extra stack height in the heel is pretty annoying to me at this point, hopefully it’ll compress a bit. Also, please make them in black.
I just bought these a couple weeks ago and I have been working them like crazy in fact they are almost the only shoes I wear. This is my favorite thing I’ve ever bought, it’s so flexible and as someone with lower back problems the zero drop is a life saver. I also bought the veg tanned version and it seems they have completely reworked to only use your design but I’m not cutting these things up these boots are gold. My feet are stronger and I always feel like I’m in a secure and stable product. Such a wonderful boot
Thank you for making this available, it's exactly what I've been looking for. I will pre order soon.
I wish these boots were available in Europe, too.
I second this
Did you try the original South African site? They ship to Israel so I don’t see why they wouldn’t ship to Europe.
@@sarahrosen4985 I can't find them over there
I went on the pre-order, unfortunately it looks like these are for sale in the US only. Will these be for sale outside the US at all in the future?
Been an avid follower of your channel for a while, loved the original Jim Green review but the heels have always been a bit prominent for me. Been zero drop and Vivobarefoot etc for a good few years now, these boots are literally like you read my mind and created the perfect blend! 😁
Thanks from the UK 👍 🇬🇧
Didnt know about these boots until this video popped up randomly, they look great so im going to pick up a pair when I get the chance
Amazing. Thanks for the intro to Jim Green, they sound amazing
Wish these were available in Canada,
I'd buy a pair in a heartbeat.
Ditto. A work boot would be great as well. My feet are being wrecked by wearing steel toed boots all day
I also hunt.
I hope you cover the Waxi boots sometime. It came from the Rhodesian bushwar where the Rhodesian army found that combat boots really weren't suitable for the African bush. Before those boots they'd wear veldskoens or even converse sneakers for combat.
Definitely needs to cover waxi boots. I have 3 pair
@@punkinblack361 I'd probably get a pair if I didn't live in the northwest and work in the woods tbh
Great work on these! I absolutely love my boots
I love these. Hopefully i can get a pair for next spring and summer. I feel like these would be an excellent disc golf shoe/boot.
What sole does the cobbler put on when this wears out? This sole is only available from Jim Green?
I bought a pair of African Ranger boots a year ago. I was pretty much sold on them by the way they looked and how well received they were (particularly by the review on this channel). The thing that sold me on them was a customer saying how they were slip resistant. I work 50-60 hours in a kitchen and wore them to non-slip-resistance in about 3 months. I love the boots for everything else. I do wish they kept their slip-resistance longer. I had a pair of bush nunn kitchen shoes and the tread remains slip resistant but the pads literally fell off so I super glued them back on and its works. But they are god awful uncomfortable. Could I buy “slip resistant sheets” from somewhere and glue them on the rangers? Or is that too crazy? I live about an hour away from a cobbler so I know eventually I will trek out to them but was hoping someone had a do it yourself solution. I have event tried carving tread back onto the worn flat soles with a whittling knife which is incredibly difficult. I am planning to borrow a dremel to see if I can carve treads better on that way but dont want to stink up my garage. I do plan to get this new pair you have designed because I do love the shoe in general, it feels grand and I can use and abuse them doing hiking, travelling, kitchen work, blacksmithing, landscaping, you name it. They also look dope so I dont feel too much like a yokel dressing up to nicer events with them. Ps my girlfriend says they smell like cat piss when I take them off, is there any solution to that? I assume they use it in the tanning solution because thats something that is used in tanning. I will say again though they are great boots, I like them strides more than my red wings, paladiums, wolverines, timberlands, and adidas(sambas)
This is a crazy dope expansion of the RUclips Channel.
Making serious waves with your passion for footwear 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
I ordered a pair and I personally hate arch support, any arch support as in most cases the arch support adds pain as you have this thing pushing up on the middle of your foot. Some shoes even have it going to far back so you have a corner of your heal on the arch support. Merrel has that issue.
Exactly a barbaric invention but they’re good for injured feet temporary
Just bought a pair and was wondering what we should do when the eventual day for a resole comes. Should we just slap on a regular vibram cristy outsole or is there something else you’d suggest?
Don't think Christies have enough traction for outdoor use. Try vibrum Sierra.
Honestly when I saw this shoe, I thought I was dreaming, because this is as good of a natural barefoot boot I have ever seen. Thank you so much, it’s about time someone made a real high quality zero drop boot.
Im so glad I ran across this video. I install tile and always wear vibram five fingers. It will be nice to have a little more protection at work.
I really like the idea of this boot, there would only be two things I would like to see made differently:
1st being the removal of any toe spring. As you can see in the video, the toe springs up a bit. Not as much as any traditionally made work boot, especially right next to a pair of Nick‘s
2nd either a full sock liner or the removal of it to have even less dropoff from ball to toe. That might not be significant, but I really do not enjoy half sock liners for how they feel.
Still, i love to see details like a wide toe box and as minimal dropoff from ball to toe as with this boot. Makes me want to wear it right away :)
Yeah seeing the half sock liner is pretty disappointing, and it definitely makes them not zero drop. I imagine after a few hundred miles they’ll compress a fair bit, but 2.5mm of extra stack in the heel is actually a lot. Hopefully they keep making them and revise this particular aspect of the design.
Jim Green did a shoe last video recently, looks like this doesn’t have toe spring from the last itself, might be from the manufacturing bending it up a bit?
When are you going to make the “what boot Indiana Jones would actually wear” video?
Their exactly what ive been looking for! Ordered a pair, thanks!
I am excited about this one. My father use to wear these in the mid 90s. He passed 1 pair to my youngest brother.
This is *so* not my kind of boot. Ive really grown to love robust ankle support and high cuffs--and I couldnt give them up these days.
I still can't help but respect the hyper specialization. I hope whoever buys these can enjoy them for a very long time.
How can I order there outside of the US? (Israel specifically)
Looks fantastic.
I'm a woman working in an office but your videos are so interesting that I now know everything about what makes the best work boot!
Lovely boots and great design. Top work👍🏻
Jim Green is best girl
I feel conflicted by this video... on the one hand, I love your reviews, and find you to be a mostly unbiased source, with great knowledge of materials, construction processes, and history, but on the other hand, I'm just wondering if you really have all the knowledge and wisdom to actually make an improvement to an African Ranger boot. I know you have years of leather craft under your belt, but this just seems like minute changes for the sake of people who will never experience the the original conditions the boot was designed for. Jim Green states that they got feedback from actual African Rangers about what they need in a boot, and you showed us those design choices in the original, i.e. the cheaper insole, the thicker outsole, and the different tread. When I see the new boots that you've inspired (and the 10 dollar price increase over the original), I feel that the original purpose of the boot has been muddied. Even if the differences are only minor, I'm curious if they actually benefit the African Rangers that the boot was originally designed for. I see all these changes being made by somebody who can afford more than one pair of boots, and wants to tailor the boots to a more well rounded type of boot, without realizing the strict and purpose built design of the original. I feel like I'm losing my point by trying to belabor it, so I'll say it simply: Why would you, someone who is _not_ an African Ranger, think that you could design a better boot for an African Ranger than an actual in-the-field African Ranger?
I don't know... I hope this comment doesn't sound mean, I wouldn't nit-pick if I didn't love your videos!
I’m so excited to give these a spin! My sneakers gave out after 6 months so I was done with sneakers at work. I love my Iron Rangers and my Mocs, but before trying heritage boots I was on a barefoot kick because my feet never hurt in my Xero or SOM’s. Having a real boot that’s actually built well AND is zero drop is gonna be insane! Especially because I’m a believer in the leather forming to your feet now. My iron rangers are so comfortable despite it being solid veg tan leather.
This is not a complaint. This is my first experience purchasing a Rose Anvil collaboration. I received the email 19 minutes late It took 30 minutes for the email link to connect The email directed me to the website (not a separate site) I knew there was issues so I had already gone to website The boots were available to the public, not just Rose Anvil The purchase took several refreshes to complete I was able to complete the purchase 45 minutes later This is just my experience. I'm glad I got a pair.
Cool story.
Could’ve been you were using the browser while logged into your email. I’m assuming it was your email address that gave you special access and not necessarily the email that rose anvil sent out. I’m assuming site took longer to load and simultaneously crashed because of the amount of traffic going through. I had the same issue. It comes with the territory 🤷🏻♂️
It’s the demand on the website. Too many people overloaded the servers and crashed it
sounds like a learning experience for you
Looks like a very unique boot with a wide range of people who can benefit from it. I can see myself getting a pair sometime.
Just purchased some size 12s. Can’t wait to rock these on some hikes and on the range🤙
