I'm a beginner to crocheting...I found Melanie's channel by searching beginner crochet and was so happy that I found someone that is a pro at this but at the same time knows how to teach it through video. As I searched through more of Melanie's videos, I came across her husbands video of her life battling cancer. This broke me to tears. I wish her whole family a lot of love and happiness in the future. To her mom and Dad, Thank you for raising such a bright, kind and full of life daughter that will go on teaching her crafts forever. I will continue to watch Melanie's videos so she can teach me many more projects. I lost my brother 15 years ago to cancer, he was 39. I don't know why this happens to good people and I struggle to believe that it is all a part of the big guy's plan, but we have to keep the faith. I have truly prayed for your whole family for forever love and peace. Thank you, Dione
Just happened to find this today looking for a pattern for loom hats. It made me cry. So very 😢. I hope her family are doing ok but I imagine they are going through a very hard time- her kids are so young-she was so young! You’ve left a beautiful legacy sweet girl, that will live on and keep your beautiful creations going on. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
My condolences and prayers to her family. She taught me how to make my first flower printed quilt. She was one talented lady. Thankful for the lessons I learned from her.
I am a senior citizen and was browsing you tube about loom knitting. I found this channel. I looked for more things that Melanie did online. Incredibly talented. I did not know she had passed away, to young. As I know my mother died when she was 30 and I was 13. I will keep you in my prayers and the whole family. Take care.
This is a wonderful tutorial! I have crocheted all my life and wanted badly to also knit, but I just can not get comfortable doing it. I got some knitting looms and found them extremely easy to use. I even taught my 2 kids. It is really nice to find such a great tutorial showing some other techniques! I will definitely come back to this and use it as a guide. I recommend these to everyone. If you do not want to invest in one right away, although the can be found fairly inexpensively, your local library will most likely have a bunch that you can check out! I am in a small town and just found that my library has a ton of different knitting looms to check out. Also, just a fun fact, knitting was originally always done on a loom! Crochet was invented for shepards out in the fields and knitting was done at home on looms! It wasn't until more recent times that knitting started being done on 2 needles. The original portable yarn crafts were Crochet and Nailbinding.
Much love to Melanies husband and children 💕 I cried watching this video today 😥 I love Melanies work, so creative and always upbeat and happy. May she live on through her wonderful tutorials as does my subscription to her channel xxx
I just found this video the other day and made myself a hat. I was so excited to start learning how to make things when I saw the video about her documentary you were making. I am so sorry for you loss. She seemed liked an incredible person. My heart goes out to you. God bless!:(
Hi Everyone! It's been almost 6 years since I did a loom knitting video, it's high time we did a new one! Here's a great hat I made... perfect for absolute beginners or even kids! Enjoy!
I have used this pattern to make several hats for my daughter. I was coming here this morning to comment and thank her, because she’s the ONLY one I can understand and follow. I’m so saddened to hear of her passing. I think I’ll make a few hats and donate them in her honor.
Just came across your video and I just wanted to say I think it is so cool of you to spread the story for World Vision and the refugee issues in Syria! Thanks for doing something great with your talent!
thank you for doing this video I'm fairly new to loom knitting I love it. I have figured out a knit stitch the yarn is at the back and a perl is at the front. I've made a hat that I didn't follow any pattern and it's OK I've done 1 leg warmer lol and I've done a baby blanket ( on a straight loom ) for my great niece. I'm currently working on a blanket for my great nephew and a new hat.
This is great. I’ve tried knitting several times and couldn’t master gauge. I’ve never thought about using looms. I’m definitely going to do this. Thanks.
Hi Peggy, I feel the same way! I have been crocheting all my life and I just can not get comfortable knitting! I understand it, I can do it, but it feels so awkward, hurts my hands, goes so slow, and I get lost easily! A couple months ago I got some of these knitting looms and they're wonderful! I spin yarn and taught my older daughter to spin as well. I tried to teach her to crochet but she was having a hard time. These knitting looms are so extremely easy to use! Immediately she was able to make herself a cowl using her first skein of handspun! I am finding great tutorials, like this one, for various techniques. I definitely recommend trying one. Your local library will usually have them to check out too!
LOVE IT!!! On my 2nd hat, lol. Please make more loom videos. Socks, mittens, blankets, scarves, etc. I would love to learn how to make them on my loom which, for me, is so much easier to maneuver than a crochet hook. Thank you Melanie!!
Just made and posted that hat by loomaknit last month. Definitely feels different when your used to hooks and needles but a skill worth giving a shot! Great video.
I never thought i could do this. the yarn and loom area at my craft store is so intimidating. you made this look easy. i may actually try it now! **Edit I had no idea this beautiful soul passed away.
Looking at crotchet and knitting videos today and happened across this one. I really like how well she explains every step of the process, and when reading the comments realized she had passed away over a year ago. Such a sad ending to something I clicked on by chance, I hope she's resting in peace.
Next time I go to Michael's I will get my very first yarn loom because I want to make hats and scarves sets for my church and operation Christmas child boxes for the poor children of the world 🌎 amen 🙏
Thank you so much for this video! Could you do a tutorial on the Boye red rectangular loom? I got it for Christmas and I am not sure what to do with it.
This was an awesome tutorial but I'm reading the comments and I see that she died?! God, that's horrible! I suppose it's been a little while since then, but I'm so sad. I hope when someone uses her lessons, she can feel that love and appreciation from where she is now. Craft in paradise.
This is a great tutorial!! I like to use my Addi to make hats for donations, but I think I am going to make a few of these to add to the pile. I hope you have more loom tutorials in the works!😉
it is 41 pegs, i believe. For round 2 and all the ribbing ( brim ) to get the ribbing sequence correct...start with a KNIT, then PURL, continue around K, P, until you get to the last 2 pegs. You have to end the round with the last TWO PEGS MUST BE TWO PURLS in order to start the next round with a KNIT.
really cute :D 💜 even though it´s spring time, I think I have to give my loom another shot (can´t say that we are friends haha) that pearl stitch might be just what I needed...and nice trick to tightening up the start like that!
Do you ever make purses? I really enjoy your videos but I haven’t seen one purse making. I would love to see your version of a larger zippered crossbody bag.
It's been a while since I've done one of these & I decided to try making one for my boss. I used to do these things once in a while with my mom but since she passed away a few months back I couldn't remember how to do it. But I must've missed something......how do you tie off each end? I'm going strictly knit one.
I know your question is over a year old but just in case someone else comes looking for the solution the answer is to end with 2 purls if your loom has an odd number of pegs.
I just come across another one of Melanie's video's on how to make a hat since our winter is coming for Australia. I have never heard of loom hoops before I must get one and make a hat from a loom. I am a beginner and made two hats with the loom. I have 56 peg loom and my hat came out kind of small. Does it matter the distance between the pegs? I want to make hats for kids and adults.
I know it's been a little while but yes the distance does matter! Walmart has the loom kits! I hope you find some I got one from the small one to the big 42 peg!

Your wonderful craftsmanship will live on in your videos. 🌹

if i wanted to do this pattern for a toddler sized loom, how rows of knit 1 purl 1 would i do and how many rows to finish off?

Do you knit Bryon?
Thank you. Making it now 😊

Do you alternate u-wrap knit/purl on pegs, or is it the same all the way around?
Could I make this hat on a small guage loom using a number 4 yarn instead?
That is a beautiful hat! Can I use the same pattern to make a matching scarf or would that look weird?

Cool
Help. What to do when the loom is 41 pegs? If I continue to alternate the knit purl stitches, the second row will be different. Any advice?
I know your question is over a year old but just in case someone else comes looking for the solution the answer is to end with 2 purls if your loom has an odd number of pegs.

is it possible to do the Lotus stitch on a loom?
