I assume the file corruption was meant to be a visual hallucination. The sides of the screen get a strange, psychedelic background when you're in the Mesmer's range, and the PDA displays a huge picture of the creature on the entry. The pattern might still have the effect of drawing your focus in picture form.
Lots of fun information, with an application to real biology. I have never played Subnautica, but know more about it from following this channel. Thanks for assembling this information! Also, the end screen was fun. PS - I was mesmerized by the audio quality in this video being exceptionally good. Looking back, the last one was also good. Did something change in your setup?
No nothing has really changed with my setup. The broadclub hunting behavior is really interesting, and thought maybe talking about it through the Subnautica lens would be interesting.
Great video John! This was a really interesting video. It is cool to see how the producers of Subnautica may have been using some of the adaptations and traits of real world organisms in their game. The Broadclub Cuttlefish mesmerization thing is interesting, and it would definitely be a good idea for biologists to research this topic. Nice work on this video!
This was fantastic JJ, one of the best blends of nature and video games I've ever seen on RUclips. You manage to teach me about Subnautica (a game I've beaten many times) while simultaneously teaching me about cuttlefish and how dynamic science is. This was absolutely amazing, great work my friend. - Harrison and Evan
yeah, it is really just not understood at all. Maybe one day someone can set up a test to try and tease apart the main 3 competing hypothesis on how it works.

I guess that is a way to explain it within the context of the game.

this is my favorite creature in the game and I also love cephalopods so this is a cool analysis

Thanks, yeah the broadclub has an interesting hunting behavior, will be interesting to see what biologists figure out about it in the years to come
A solid theory. Though maybe the colors confused the scanner and it wasn't able to sort out the information.

Thanks, it was really interesting to do the research for this one. May have one more Subnautica science video in me, but we will have to see...

fun fact: mesmers arent poisonous
so eat them duh
it is your primary directive to eat that tasty creature
thank you for questioning the "hypnotic" ability of cuttlefish, it seems to be continuously mentioned by documentaries without much explanation
