Welcome to Ecotasia! On this channel you can find wildlife footage and short documentaries on the natural world. I am an early career biologist who was inspired by the likes of the BBC Natural History unit, PBS, and Animal Planet as a child and then more recently by various nature RUclips channels to share my love for animals and nature. My goal is to document and highlight the interesting ecology and behavior of organisms I encounter, as well as cover and elucidate conservation and biological topics. Please Subscribe so you can join me to marvel and to learn twice a month.
I Went Birding in the Jungles of Borneo to Find Out Why Birds Matter
Why Do Birds Matter? That is what this video aims to do, discuss why birds matter, all in a top ten style, and in line with my previous video on bird taxonomy we will explore that in a specific place, in this case the island of Borneo, the third largest island in the world, and home to a bunch of birds, like Hornbills, broadbills, bristleheads, flowerpeckers, and spiderhunters.

Is the Orangutan Doomed? @TheWildlifeBrothers @Beckisphere @AllCanadianReptileGirl
Просмотров 173Месяц назад
Orangutans are perhaps the most endangered of our closest kin, we share something like 97% of our genomes, and yet there are perhaps less than 70,000 wild orangutans on the planet, and that is rapidly declining. Bornean Orangutans are critically endangered, is this the last generation? Like most people, the orangutan was an animal I only saw on nature documentaries or in zoos, but I recently ha...

I got stung by one in New Mexico, visiting my G'ma. Got into my shoe and stung on the top of my foot. Really hurt for a day or two. But we have the Pogonomyrmex Californica in CA where I live. In spring, you see them by the sides of hiking trails foraging. Wondered if they sting, and I now have my answer. Also, just read the Chumash people (Native Americans) of CA would use them to initiate boys into manhood. 250 ants was an effective dose, swallowed alive.
Great video! Our farm is in the small monsoon climate zone. We’ve had 50 inches of rain in one month and gone 6 months with only 0.5 inches. It makes for some interesting farming. 🤙
I flipped a rock and saw one, gave me nightmares for years.
If all dinosaurs were realistic, the game wouldn’t be fun
Excellent video! Thank you so much.
Haha this is a quality snapshot of the Arizona experience
Bro it just a game not supposed to be accurate
Dinosaurs and birds coexisted. That is why you can see that there are petrified birds in the belly of a petrified theropod, the same dinosaur alleged to have turned into a bird. There’s soft tissue still in dino bones. We live in a created realm with a designer, and He has an enemy in Satan, whose major objective is to turn people away from the Lord. A deep time nihilistic model is the perfect solution to gather together spiritually people, make them believe they’re intelligent, and take their souls. Yeah, souls! It’s like the SIM card of your flesh, it’s the thing that stores all your life’s memory! It’s what survives your ephemeral mortal life.
Can’t say shit when you got the name of the game wrong when you have a dream go for it
I really enjoyed this video JJ, your Amazon bird taxonomy video is one of my all time favorites, and this video is now up there with it. I am blown away by the number of species you were able to film, I can only imagine that that was very challenging. You made strong points throughout, even though I also wish we could talk about the intrinsic and ecological importance of birds more than the purely anthropocentric, economic benefits. Very well researched and written, you pull off this style very well. Great work!
I am glad you liked it. Yeah this is basically the sequel to that video. Yeah it was fun to try and film all these species. Some more successfully than others

Thank you for using “some random vagrant” to discuss vulture ecology; one of my favorite subjects! Personally I don’t think any bird is ugly, by the way.
Absolutely fair, I have just always found people's reaction to them a little funny.
“I cant watch this movie because it’s not 100% grounded in reality!!! 😡😡😡😡😡”
Most closley accurate creatures in Jwe2 Edmontosaurus Geosternbergia Suchomimus Sinosauropteryx Deinochirus Styracosaurus Yutyrannus Euoplecephalus Ouranosaurus (CC) Sauropelta Diplodocus Dsungaripterus Icthyosaurus Kronosaurus
Besides some of those animals would probably die from temperature and not finding the food they need to survive.
You Know Jurassic Park Is Sci-Fi
They may be trash so you have something in common with them
As a child, I was made to believe quicksand was around every corner just waiting to swallow me up.
I saw a female on my car last night and needed help from “All Bugs Go to Kevin” to identify it. I’m really happy to know that her presence is a sign of health in the nearby river, which has had some issues in the past. Thank you!
Bro can I not watch a good Sifi movie without someone being like erm aucualy that inaccurate to history. Like shut up 🤓
Climate change killed the mega fauna, not humans
wuau
Beautiful beautiful animal. Truly heart breaking to know there are so few of them. Do you know if they are on the decline or if the population is increasing?
Declining
Very cool but not older than people being there based on germinating time stated... Blue fish caves has evidence of people being there 25000 years ago
Fascinating.......Well done and entertaining.
I didn’t even watch the whole video. It doesn’t need to be accurate and also why do you pop up Jurassic World evolution that you don’t want to change it it would be weird to change it from its old type and it was the most accurate for the time. He just makes me sad how these people just complain about. Not trying to be mean just. It’s annoying that people still complaining about the crap we Jurassic World alone it was the most accurate for the time is the most accurate not today I don’t care leave it alone I protect Jurassic World with a gun
I'm in Canada, visiting an area with lots of Aspen, and I am mesmerized by them and had to google it to learn more :)
Wait!? American Cheetahs?? Since when? I know in America we have Panthers, Bobcats, and Mountain Lions. But the American cheetah is new to me.
There were more closly related to mountain lions just they ran really fast
Sick as hell
Open pando up for hunting.
Me: should be doing productive things Also me: I wonder how tf woodpeckers peck.
I'm being eaten alive as we speak
I know the dinosaurs are not attracted but they still look cool and I like them because the dinosaurs are from the movies now please stop
Im Argentine, our country is basically the biggest field of grass in the world Can't we make some reservations for Orangtunas and breed some here? Brazil would be a perfect environment for them, but they would be invasive. Here in Argentina we dont have any native species of Primate (except in Misiones province which is right next to Brazil)
introduced yes, invasive that would be unlikely but need to be determined (it is complicated)
@@Ecotasia I mean it IS invasive by definition, but Orangutans are chill, they might not even interfere with the native trophic chain
Hi, friend. Really sad what happens with orangutans, as with other species, and especially with nature in general. Great video. Greetings
yes, very sad. Hope you are well.
So this is the shit going on offscreen as I had my Leafcutters grabbing vegetation in Empires of the Undergrowth.
yes, love that level, should do a playthrough
@@Ecotasia Speaking of, the game is fully released now, so you're all set there!
the new planet earth actually does have a whole episode dedicated to wild life in modern world, it's surprising the "rain forest" is just a patch of trees inside a big farm
That is awesome, glad they are taking that criticism seriously.
This was an absolutely incredible video JJ, one that I’ve been waiting for for a very long time. The writing and progression of information were so thoughtful and thorough, this has to be one of the best constructed science deep dives I’ve watched in a while. Borneo is such a legendary place, and I really hope that I get to explore it before it is so fundamentally changed by the capital move - when is that going to happen? You filmed so many amazing species, great primate and bird diversity and I’m sure the biodiversity in general was overwhelming. And just getting footage of wild orangutans is really special, any encounter with wild great apes has to be unforgettable. Amazing work JJ!
Glad you enjoyed and also got to participate!
The information is useful but you shared it with a disgusting video😶😬
that is what I hear
I think this is very concerning
The notion that we wiped out the mega fauna is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.
the evidence is definatly mixed enough I like to stay out of that discussion
Beta boy.
better than being an embarrassing man-child
wow so detailed
But they have their DNA gaps filled with other animals DNA to finish the genome
that doesn't mean having feathered dinosaurs doesn't matter to the collective concious of how the public sees dinosaurs
Why do the flies have to lay their eggs on the back of the fleeing-cockroaches? Incredible video, congratulations.
they are hoping that the roach will escape and offer food to their larvae
The insect world is a literal warzone every second of every day.
feels like that sometimes
Yo he's a fan of Antscanada
your vids deserve so much more attention, it's so cool almost all the places you talk about you've been there yourself
thank you so much.
It was accurate at the time they ain’t gonna just remake the Dino’s after the first three jurassic park movies were made with them and there’s lore to why the dinosaurs from Jurassic world/park aren’t accurate
a the lore... the lore explains all
Though I will complain about a few things I don’t like first is Rexy being used as a punching bag most of the time and the dinosaurs and cold blooded mammals in biosyn not being accurate even though they have no frog dna to make them look like they came from ingen and the fact they have inaccuracy in THE PROLOGUE switch takes place in the prehistoric times
I have quaking aspen on my property, the areas i stop mowing become groves of them, i never thought they could be thousands of years old.
It’s a fictional movie by the way
duh
@@Ecotasia u saying duh but your over here talking about Jurassic world having inaccuracies on their dinosaurs and how long Jurassic park/worlds been around every comment should say duh
