Your love for the tropics is infectious. I miss my time in the Amazon and this was really making me want to go back. I too have no formal botany training and have had to learn everything after I graduated. Great job talking plants as a non-plant person. I love your ant like/subscribe thing, that makes the video itself haha. But seriously, great job covering a lot of interesting things from forest ecology/succession to biochemistry of plants.

I learned a lot in this! It's like several interesting plant topics in a row. One of the unadvertised benefits was of hearing the scientific words pronounced, which is not common. Thanks for ALLLLLLLL the WORK that went into this one!
The amino acid thing was actually pretty interesting. The bitter alkaloid end made me snort.
PS - I think it's great to be willing to learn on camera! There is no person who knows everything, and learning is clearly one of your greatest skills, so letting us see the process is fun.

Yeah this was a big undertaking, but I had fun filming and editing this one, I think this video captures kind of the landscape and feel of the Amazon the best of any of my videos I have done.

I learned quite a few new things about the immobile, photosynthetic, green things that we call plants. I agree that plants often get overlooked in favor of animals. I knew about the agouti’s seed dispersal habits and some other things, but biochemistry is a fairly unknown subject to me.
