I go down Penny Lane often on my ebike food deliveries. I'm in a band myself and as the job is rather mindless, I spend most of my journeys humming songs to myself and making ones up. Delivered to Penny Lane a few times the other day, and it does seem to inspire me more. I can't help but start singing Penny Lane when I see the street sign, lol. Thanks for the video.
I hope they don't have plans to demolish the building in the roundabout and the fire station, I feel like they are almost like, national heritage places

Hi folks. Im From liverpool , and it's a special place. Especially where John and Paul lived. Lots of mysterious places ,parks etc. And quaint old village of woolton. With its mini cinema and baths where they went as kids. IRS easy to see there memories and creative geniuses starting from such. In fact liverpool is a wondrous beautiful city. Put down a lot , but that's what makes us araise. Take God bless where ever you are

For those of you wondering how far was Penny Lane from Paul's and John's house, Penny Lane was about 7 minutes by car away from Paul's childhood home (that's a little over a mile and a half) and almost 3 miles away from John's house (8 minutes away) by car. Paul's house was just 4 minutes away from John's house. But, they didn't meet until their teens.
John's house was a little under 2 miles from Penny Lane
Although John lived where you said he was actually born very close to Penny Lane in Newcastle Road. So a Paul song in some ways has a stronger John connection.

I think that he means that the song Strawberry FieldS Forever is a song about all the places everyone of us have, places which ment so much in our childhood, places that have gone and just remaining, because Lennon ment it this way, otherwise he would have sang Strawberry Field() Forever as it‘s written on the entry sign.

Whilst in San Francisco in 1972, I found myself parked in the Rain on Union Street. Union Street might be similar to Penny Lane in some respects...I remember turning the radio on and hearing PENNY LANE....and I went into a dream.

Hey you did a great job enjoyed watching . I see you were a one man band from one cameraman to another. Great endeavor. Reminds me of CBS's "On The Road With Charles Kuralt". Maybe you could get a gig with them. On the constructive side...yes there is a Strawberry Field there. I would have liked to see you go in the barbershop and interview some people in and around the area. Overall was good and entertaining. I was in Liverpool back in the Navy and walked that street. Eleanor Rigby was an actual person that was buried in a church very near where Paul lived. Paul had visited that cemetery as a kid and probably saw her name on the tombstone and subconsciously wrote that song forgetting he had seen the tombstone. Oh dear, poor video. So much information which could have been added, especially the bank on the corner. Freddie Mercury has been mentioned, the filming of the Free As A Bird video has a strong connection, Dovedale School, The Penny Lane Development Centre, the fact you're allowed to go inside the barber's shop, Paul being in the choir in that church as well as being best man at his brother's 2nd wedding. Even where he started off, he was next to the school that Brian was expelled from. I've probably missed some facts.
You're absolutely right! The Dovedale Towers was formerly used as the St. Barnabas Church Hall where the Quarrymen played on several occasions. Freddie Mercury lived there in 1969 when he was a member of the Liverpool band Ibex!

the church grounds where Elenore Rigby's grave is located is near the local salvation army. The BEATLES MEMBERS WOULD OCCASIONALLY SIT ON THE FENCE OF THE CHURCH AND SEE HER TOMBSTONE. It was a hangout spot for them. And eventually they wrote the song after repeatedly seeing her tombstone.
Great video. Been to Penny Lane a few times (being a Beatles fan). The street itself is quite unremarkable, but you can imagine it being a busy junction where the bus shelter was, back in the 60s.
If you want a place as nostalgic as this song that isn’t ruined go to Trafford it has hardly changed from the 60’s and is still lovely as ever

James Corden went into the barber shop with Paul a couple years ago .it was still open as was a pub they stopped at .
@@larrysproul9424 the pub in the programme was the Philadelphia or the Philly to locals. John once said that a pitfall of fame prevented him from going to the pub. Amazing gents toilets there too, have a Google!
I was born and brought up in the Penny Lane area...this is a film that has so many factual errors, basic things that could have been fund out and so many missing facts which people might have found interesting. The area was not 'working class'; it has not 'become gentrified'; the banks on the corner are easy to see. And to say the bus shelter has 'nothing to do with Penny Lane' is rubbish, because everyone know that shelter and the shops around it as Penny Lane.

Cool video. After driving on the "right" side in the US for 48 years...I know if I attempted to drive in England...on the "left" side...it would take me about 20 seconds until I would be in a car accident. Man...that looks totally confusing.

My wife and I, both in our 60's, drove 7,000 miles in the USA, on the "wrong" side of the road, we didn't have any accidents. We bought a cheap GPS in Walmart. The car rentals charge an arm and a leg to rent one.

Strawberry fields is a real place just off Menlove Avenue. I lived opposite Penny Lane in my first year at University, nice place although the road itself is a little underwhelming after hearing the song but like you say, it is more about the junction and old tram shelter area. It's not particularly gentrified, in fact it was never a particularly working class area which can be seen when you look at how big some of the older houses are around that area. There are some poorer areas such as where Paul lived which is an ex-council estate but even that is a pocket in a largely middle class area.Eleanor Rigby's grave is in the Church Graveyard at Woolton where John and Paul first met properly at the Village fete (although they met initially outside of a newsagent where Paul did his after school paper round).

Just a teeny tiny bit more research or even asking around would have provided you with more accurate & informative information, ie the fire station, Strawberry Fields, the bank, etc. Anyone there could've pointed out the actual bank; our dr's offices were in the building a few years ago. (If "the fire station" you possibly mistakenly referenced "was in operation through the 60s," how did it just close down "a few months ago?")
This guy is under the impression that Penny Lane was written by BOTH Lennon & McCartney. Sorry, mate, Penny Lane was written by Paul while Strawberry Fields was written by Lennon, even though most of the Beatles tunes were attributed to both.
