@@jpeterman9699 Because it's very good but expensive. You might get a lot of fries but it's like $6 and not the $3 - $4 McDonald's charges. Add in the $8, might be $9, burgers and a drink and you're paying close to $20 for just a meal. I don't go too often but when I do, man, it costs me like $28 for two burgers, fries and two drinks. For that price and a little more, you could get a really nice dinner for two at a local restaurant.

First time I had Five Guys was in DC back in the day and omg I was floored. Happy that they started popping up in NYC.
When I lived in the Washington DC area in the 1990s, there was only one Five Guys. The original one. Small place. No tables. A barrel of peanuts in the customer area. There was a bakery next door where they got their buns. On the other side was a Cop Shop. The kind of place where you could buy handcuffs and things. It was always a treat to go there. Just what you would expect. Great burgers and plenty of the best fries in the world. All put in a greasy brown bag. Perfect.

I used to work at a Big Ed's in OKC where, after we closed and made ourselves a meal to go, the manager and myself would double dip our fries to get really crispy. So good!
And the tubs that they want you to use for grabbing peanuts are what i use to fill completely to the top with ketchup.

They're very expensive compared to most other chains. No combo option, forcing you to get everything individually and you easily end up with a $20+ bill if you get a burger, fries and a drink.

The Trick is to order the „small“ fries. The extras is the same for all sizes and this way you get almost the same amount for all sizes for a much lower price. And if that’s not enough you should order two separate orders of small fries. Thank me later ;)

I remember when my mom and me tried Five Guys in Downtown Evanston for the first time. We weren't expecting much especially after the price (my mom is cheap lol). But she was enjoying the free peanuts lol. When we got our order which we got large fries and saw what they gave us. Our mouths dropped open after we saw how much fries they gave us and we actually tasted our burgers and my mom justified the price that they had because of the quality of the food. While my mom is cheap she is reasonable as long as it's justifiable and this was.
I knew it. I’ve always felt like they are extremely calculated. Sure it’s more expensive but when you’re paying 8-10.00 for burger combos you always think damn is this going to be enough and worth it my money. At five guys never worried about that.

Then they altogether stopped making burgers fresh, added holding/steaming cabinets, and microwave… COUGH COUGH I meant "Q-ing Ovens". Now they tell us the beef is NEVER frozen… yeah, but it's still served like jerky between two pieces of stale bread.
If they had not had there business ruthlessly stolen from them by Ray Kroc then this is what they would have been.(you are right) not including the extra fries) but everything els fresh never frozen. A large fry there has never been that much and I've been to them in many states. There's one about 2 miles from me and a L order is $6.29. That's more than enough for 3 people with the extra fries.

i once ordered online to pick up and forgot to order the fries. so when i got there i gave the guy my order number and told him i forgot to order fries and if i can do it now and i will pay cash , since i payed for the order with card. the guy gave me my order with extra fries as always and refused to take money for the fries. really love this guy in Bonn Germany branch. i think he is the manager maybe.

First time I was in Five Guys I made the mistake of forgetting I was firstly in the US & second not knowing about this & ordered a large fries - lesson learned! Part of the fun when eating in them in the UK is watching the newbies order their standard McDonalds/Burger King size only to discover the field of potatoes in the bottom of the bag!

The problem was I was charged .25¢ for each pack of ketchup or mayonnaise. That was the shocker as it's free in the U.S. Also, German fries are heaven as they're still the best fries I've ever eaten. Don't know what they did to them but I would literally just order fries for dinner and nothing else. Now that I'm back in the U.S., I really do miss the fries.
Ranger77 It’s great, you should try it. It lubes the dry fries... adds creaminess and makes it taste less salty if you think normal salted fries are too salty. It basically becomes a fried potato salad. Add ketchup to taste.

A friend of mine liked going to five guys solely for the fries. In fact, he frequented the same five guys so much,they knew him by name and his exact order. Crazy as it sound, as a sort of special request, they give him this order he calls “the bag”

I used to work at a five guys the reason it's so expensive is because everything is fresh the hamburger meat is never more than 2 days old and everything is fresh and prepped in the morning and they pay their employees pretty well and nothing is kept under a heater

Heck. Now that I think about it, I'd gladly forego the "extra fries" if it brought the price down. Jokes on them though. I don't go to Five Guys often, but when I do I'm make sure I get some "extra peanuts" to go.

That may have something to do with covid. Alot of meat manufacturing sites have been stopped so the food will be more pricey because they need more money to pay their workers. E.g. a bacon egg and cheese on biscuit at mcdonalds used to be around 5 dollars, now its 8-9 dollars.
