Honeywell HW-680 Twin Window Fan | Initial Checkout

- The initial checkout of a Honeywell branded twin window fan model HW-680. Honeywell made a number of fans during this era with these ludicrous controls. It appears that the intention was to have something variable speed/infinite range, but it doesn't really work. Not sure if it worked years ago and capacitors have started to dry out over time, or if it never worked at all. It seems to produce 2 or 3 distinct speeds, all of which are very loud except full power. Interesting concept, but terrible in execution.

The date code does indeed mean that it was from 1997. I actually have one of these from 1998 that I bought from a goodwill back in 2014. I did a revisit video of it about a year ago.
To my knowledge, the controls have always been a bit wonky. Aside from my own experience, another person by the username MetalphysicalEngineer actually had his own problems with one of these models to the point of wiring a new speed control.
There exist a mechanical control version this with adjustable grills. They definitely seem quieter as they don't have that motor hum
That channel sounds familiar, I think I've watched it before. I just tried to find it again and was unable to. The RUclips search seems to have gotten particularly poor as of very recently.

Good initial checkout video of this Twin window fan I can't wait to see the servicing video especially the bearings Bro
Thanks
I remember seeing the Honeywell turbo pans at fleet and farm around 2016 with French on the packageing. We never had a Maìjer near where we lived in Ohio but I believe there was one in the Michigan where my uncle was located. Judging by the looks of this fan and the Maìjer tag make me believe it was from anywhere between 2000 to 2005.
It looks early 2000s to me, but apparently that sticker is a date code and it does trace back to the late 90s.
quite a decent fan for something made somewhat recently. I wished that the concept of window fans would be more popular here in europe as it honestly seems like a smart idea considering how many people keep their windows open during the day.
In Europe we have more outward opening windows rather then sliding
@@Tokaisho1 thats true. here in the uk, sliding windows are quite a rarity
Getting fans or air-conditioners into anything but the sliding windows is quite a challenge.
Meijer is a Michigan-based company. They only exist in six states
(It's pronounced my-er)
I really enjoyed the video but I rather vintage fans like I have in my collection
Thanks for letting me know.
That’s China for you bro as far as the control set but it seems like it will be a good fan once serviced I enjoyed the video
True this stuff from China is always messed up in some way.
@@JordanU exactly and unfortunately it’s to bad that made in the USA 🇺🇸 won’t come back
