It is just my opinion but I think these fans are two small to do much good. I sure wish companys would go back to the fans of the past I mean the 18 and 20 inch reversible window fans with a thermostat. I sure miss the Lakewood company they made some great sturdy window fans in the past.
it looks like holmes and most other companies are phasing out the individual controls/option to turn one fan on, the home depot one is the only one on the market that has individual controls and have the option of running one fan on.
They feel roughly the same, the only advantage is that the Holmes can control the In and Out sides, where as for the HDX if you want both In and Out, the Left one will Blow Out and the Right will Blow In. And the Holmes uses less electricity. But the "strength" of the fans are roughly the same. The Holmes is $42+ while the HDX is $32. I would say the $10 price difference makes the HDX the better deal.

I have the older fan you have and it's so much more quieter then my new bionaire. Dumb thing is loud.
