    That low speed hum brings back lots of summer memories.

    I just got an old Holmes from the early 00s, it's got 2 8 inch fans, it's pretty quiet and moves a decent amount of air, same can't be said for the modern Holmes it replaced, it works, but I sold it to a friend who needed a discreet window fan for his dorm, so I painted it black and sold it to him, he said thus far the TA hasn't noticed, and they have a strict no window air conditioner or fan policy yet won't fix the PTAC unit in his dorm or the bathroom exhaust fan in the communal loo, whenever someone has to take a dump or a shower they borrow that fan to ventilate the room

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  3 года назад +1

      They were OK, but even the 8" models were on the loud side for the air moved. I can understand the no AC policy, but no fans is ridiculous. Especially if they're not going to provide other means of cooling.

      @@JordanU That's ivy league college policy for ya, the newer models with the sharper blades are quite noisy, this has the older blades that are more rounded, it's pretty old, the one I sold to a friend has those stupid high static axial type fans, that's the noisy one, I also replaced the motors on the newer one because the original ones failed, the new motors are wired so they're very slow on low and wicked fast on high kinda like the fans of the olden days

      @@JordanU I'll see, though the dorms are quarantined, students attend remotely but live in the dorms, lunches are prepared in the dorm buildings by the residents, the college provides ingredients and instructions on preparation, and there's a strict zero visitor policy, so I'll either have to wait till he graduates or brings the fan back when he's allowed to return home, reason being the RAs consider anything left during break fair game

    I know the Duracraft version of these have a 20” model with 3 blades.I found one on Facebook market place. I also have the Duracraft version of this. I don’t know if they made a 20” version of this one or not. On the topic of rare window fans I once saw an ad for a Holmes dual window fan branded under a Cool-Ice series it was completely transparent blue and clear uncolored plastic I’m trying to find that one seems pretty neat. Very nice fan there and very rare. These were on QVC or HSN at some point for sale aswell. These are kinda like what the Jeep Cherokee XJ’s are to Jeep people who want one. Hard to find in good shape and highly sought after. Very good find though! .That bracket is for mounting the fan in casement/slider windows.

      @JordanU  3 года назад

      Do you have a picture of the Duracraft 20"? I recall seeing a 3 blade window fan of some variety years and years ago, I've never seen another one since and I haven't been able to find any pictures of it but it sounds like it could be the one you saw.
      That sounds like a really neat model, would definitely grab it if I ever saw it.
      That's a good analogy, though after hearing how loud the hum is on the lower speeds, I question why people want these so much!

      @@JordanU the 20” one is still up on Facebook market place but 5 hours away from me I might try and see if I can get it to be shipped. I found out they do have a 20” version of yours as well. Emanfan has a video of the Honeywell version.

    I believe Holmes made a model similar to this back in the 90s.
    I actually have a twin window fan with the same type of controls (in fact it was the first fan I filmed on this channel). Great fan but the controls are rather dodgy where it sometimes has trouble maintaining a speed when it’s in the middle.

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  3 года назад

      I'd probably get a ton of use out of this if the control system was better in the lower range. Too much of a hum--it cancels out the point of the quiet slow speed!

  • @fanshvacandmore14

    Very unique design, nice find. Honeywell just doesn’t make fans that blow as much air as this anymore. What seems to be causing the issues with the fan speed is the electronic controls.

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  3 года назад

      Honeywell still makes some acceptable products, but they're definitely not what they used to be, as is the case with most brands now. The electronic controls are the issue here; this is exactly why I don't like electronic controls.

    This must be compared to that Holmes one I know you have. Looks like almost the same blade.
    A potentiometer is an electronic control?

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  3 года назад

      The other Holmes one I have is a fraction of the size, the blades have a slightly similar shape but otherwise they're nothing alike.
      I was using the term liberally, I think the technical name for that device is a rheostat.

    Noice. I found a ht-800 fan in a garbage bag because of Kaz inc. having the nerve to use 6 point screws which the previous owner couldn't open up and clean Tuesday night 2/9/21 along with a Bose Acoustimass 4 subwoofer which I needed. While I was servicing the fan I pulled the blade off with the retainer nut in place already loose and it flew out and lost it so I need another one to finish up although it still works and love its performance unfortounately the fan is not as that immaculate as yours since it cracked on the base and has a crack on the back although its clean.
