Thanks for the great in depth review. Am awaiting the arrival of my Appetite Burst direct from Epiphone any day. So, it was good to see a review of the same kind to know what to expect.
Those pickups are insanely good. I have the Epiphone as well as a Gibson with Seymour Duncan APH-2 Slash Signatures and the Epiphones sound so much meaner and thicker! l’m considering replacing the APH-2’s in my Gibson for China made Epiphone humbuckers if I can find them second hand😂
@@GeorgeVGuitars It would be outright blasphemous I guess🤣Anyway still a reason to love both guitars and play the Epiphone, just because of the difference in pickups. Listen with your ears and not with your wallet or eyes👍
Great review but I'm shocked that the electronics cavity isn't shielded. My cheap Slash knock-off is. The light weight most likely is because the factory used okoume instead of mahogany. It looks very similar but is much less dense and sounds differently, usually brighter with less gnarly mid-range like mahogany.
I got one of these as my first guitar, do you think it would be worth getting it set up or do they come set up from the factory? I got a tuner and tuned it myself, but I'm not sure if it needs anything else. I really enjoyed your review, it's the most detailed one I've seen!
The one that I reviewed came set pretty well from the factory. I just changed the strings and oiled the fingerboard a bit. I think you will be fine with the guitar as it comes out of the box set from the factory. Just check if the intonation is ok, and whenever you have the change give it to a more experienced guitarist to check out if the action is ok.
I have the Gibson one, you have to set up most guitars you buy, a good trick for keeping Les Pauls in tune better is to put the strings through the tuning peg but wrap the string upwards so it sits at the top of the tuning peg, this cuts down on the string angle between the nut and the tuning peg. Use something to lubricate where the string contacts the nut and the saddles on the bridge, some people use graphite but I just use sewing machine oil, its cheap. You can buy products also.
George, do we know what brand and gauge strings that are on the Epiphone Slash guitars? The epiphone website doesn't say. Like I mentioned earlier, I have the "Victoria" model, but I don't know what strings I have.
10-46 gauge for sure. It doesn't really matter which strings they use, you are better off changing them right away with a band and gauge that you prefer.
picked up a vermillion burst new for only 350 the other day because it had a small neck crack, fixed it up myself, and sounds and feels better than my gibson studio
@@dennisveazey4469 Unfortunately the neck too large for my hands forced me to return the guitar and i have bought a wonderful Epiphone Standard 60's Iced Tea, perfect neck for me!!
Wonderful review! One question, the top doesn't appear to have much flame to it. I see it, but it looks very thin in nature. For a AAA veneer I find this a little disappointing. Maybe there are some better tops out there as I know the veneers can vary. Your opinion is welcome, Thank you!! Bryan
As far as colour and top finish is concerned , it's not that great of a difference between this and the cheapest slash epiphone les paul special II right?
@@109acepilot nah i'm sorry i was wrong you can find a new one at 769 euros not 670 but is still a great price. Up to 3-4 months ago it costs 890 euros

@@matteoradi The AFD100 is twice cheaper, cant really compare them. Also no case, not official Slash and so on. The AFD is amazing for the price of 500$ tho.
These pick ups are the same alnico 2 as epihpones pro bucker 3 in the bridge. I wonder which ones are hotter and more aggressive any idea what the bridge custom pick up measures ?
I would take a Diesel Hagen and an Epiphone Slash over a Gibson Slash and a cheap amp, looks like a decent guitar, I have the Gibson one, love it. I like the fact there's no pick guard, wish they did that on all models as an option.
chinese products are always about 95percent!!! Why can't you put in a decent selector switch? As well as a decent jack and you would have a great guitar, even just painting on shielding would assist. Do this and awsome product.
The difference between a Gibson and a Epiphone is wood quality and electronics. The craftsmanship is negligible, especially these days with Gibson, lol. I have several Epiphone Les Paul's. 1. A 2003 Korean made LP Standard. 2. 2022 Wino LP Custom, Jerry Cantrell. 3. 2021 LP 50's. 4. 2022 LP Custom Silverburst. 5. 2013 LP Standard. I ranked them in order of best sounding... But also have two 2013 Gibson Les Paul LPJ's. The LPJ's both are superior to the Epiphone's. Just playing the Gibson's unplugged sound better than all my Epiphone's. The Gibson's have a resonance, sustain that none of my epi's have. In my experience, though limited, is that you get what you pay for. Also had a 2002 Gibson Gothic Explorer that was the best guitar I've ever had and probably ever will. Wish I'd never sold it. 😢

Great review! Just a question, is the truss Road key (allen one) included into the hardshelll case?
