Great introduction to this new feature. They’ve also added a lot of electronics capability. It’s becoming a complete Engineering tool from start to finish.
I wonder how easy it is to learn the new PCB design features. I have no experience in that field, but it seems like a natural extension to all the other things I have learned after getting my first 3D printer 5 years ago. It’s funny to think I was nervous about even working on the wiring of that original DaVinci 1.0 back then - error 0011. (And your video was the first 3D printing video I watched after searching for what that error meant).
it is honestly awesom does everything from parametric design to free form to simulating and even this gcode outputting it is amazing i use it for plasma cutting and now i can use it for 3d printing i know alot of people use it for milling and turning
Gotta love this when they allow additive manufacturing for simulation. And they could start to offer dynamic infill in different areas on all the model. Finishing up a 3D model right now for my thermal camera housing in Fusion 360 and might give the slicing a shot. I don't have an Prusa or Ultimaker tho so I have to take Generic.
Fusion 360 is the best modeling software I have ever used in my life. I love it so much. I have made some really cool practical things in it from scratch. Now it slices too, so much awesome!
@@noxix7641 I wouldn't really say that there is that much of a difference between Fusion360 and Inventor regarding what you can do and what tools that exists. It's mostly that Inventor have a way to do things that are more made for bigger teams while Fusion360 is mostly for one person projects.
@@eke0909 Unless something's changed in the last month or two, Fusion360 _still_ can't do rather basic tasks like making a helix or custom thread profiles, things that could be easily done in inventor a decade ago. Inventor is priced way too high for hobbyist use and fusion 360 isn't good enough to pay for. Rather than spending the resources making a worse version of one of their products, they should have made a pricing structure for that product that includes the hobbyist. It's not like copies of software have production costs.

Steelcase chairs are good. Or Herman Miller. Had the hm embody chair at my last job and it was amazing. An investment, but if you spend many hours in it - no hot spots, extremely adjustable ergonomics, completely blew my mind and reoriented my mindset on the importance of well designed office furniture. (Worked 60-90 hours a week at that job, a good portion of that at my desk.) Bought the steelcase gesture for myself when i went back to school and quit that job. No complaints. Think I got a better price ordering locally than I'm seeing on the internet. 🤷🏻♂️
This slicer has a ton of potential I think. I ran a print yesterday on my Ender 3 using the "Generic FFF post processor" and it worked ok. Looking forward to playing with it some more. Thanks for sharing Joel!
For being able to hear yourself at the same time as recording and not distorting your voice from noise isolation (and being able to hear children doing things they shouldn't), I suggest an open back headphones. I bought a set of open back Sennheiser HD 599 and will never go back to closed back, the difference was staggering. I don't have any suggestion on mic because I just bought a cheap ebay $15 stand mic with the sound ring, but it does discord well enough.
Any sennheiser headphone set will do you very very well, they are a bit on the expensive side. However, their sound quality and honestly their microphone calibration are all stellar. I personally use the razer kraken v2 7.1 headset and it also has great sound calibration and a decent microphone and a very good price point. Just 2 options to consider :) . As for your chair, I recently just got a respawn gaming chair, hear me out. It is SUPER comfortable, not too expensive & has hight, lumbar, & reclining adjustments & has a retractable leg rest. Just some options to consider! ^_^ happy printing
The potential for this is huge! Simply being able to slice based off the actual CAD models, rather than an STL export, may eventually enable us to get much better printer output. Of course they clearly have a lot of kinks to work out in the process, but it'll get there.
Nice insight video, thank you. It's nice to see that addition in F360 but for now I would stick with Prusa Slicer. It doesn't seems to be worth it fiddling with G-code and all that. Autodesk would probably fix those homing issues in upcoming updates so will see how it goes then.
If that's a chair you love, you could 3D print shims to go around the shaft to hold the chair up to the height you'll like. Just a thought. I saw a video a while back about doing just that
The Herman Miller Aeron is the most comfortable desk chair I've ever sat in, I love it so much that when I moved across the country from Dallas to Seattle and had to leave my first one behind because it wouldn't fit, I bought it all over again. and if I have to I'll buy another. Don't buy them new though. secondary market is a lot more affordable.
Rode mics are pretty cheap and work very well with a fosgate. About $200 for both, I have had great luck with that setup. Also, wanted to say thanks for all the videos! You got me started in my 3D printing hobby over a year ago and I haven’t looked back.
Im an IT guy and a massage therapist. Get a Serta Executive chair all day long. I have a Hensley model. For a headset, get the Steel Series Arctis Pro 7. Amazing quality, wireless, 14 hour battery.
Chairs: “budget option” - Herman Miller Mirra. Or Streelcase Leap. I have one of each and they are great. I got mine cheap used around $100 for the leather full loaded option. Usually around $400 on eBay new. Premium - Herman Miller Embody. These are expensive. $2000 msrp and about $1600 on eBay new. I’m sure you know the value of a good chair for long hours of video editing. Headsets: Audio Technica Ath Mt50x (or some variation) + antlion modmic
Joel, if you want to use a headset I suggest looking for a headset with a condenser microphone or ribbon microphone. And a second hand herman miller would be a good chair like aeron or a chair from ergohuman
You can go for Steelseries Arctis Pro there is a wired and wireless option, it is an amzing headset and fits nice and snugly. Also it is not bulky and the microphone on it is amazing. Ive used mine now for 3 years with no issues.
If you want good voice quality I wouldn't recommend headsets, just buy a desk microphone (Studio Projects C1 ~$200) and any headphones that you prefer, that way you can use the microphone both in your desktop and studio.
For audio recording, I've seen that a Blue Yeti will give you and the viewer the best audio quality. They're significantly better than any mic on a headset. You dont need a headset to record the vids. But if you are looking for a headset, I've been using the HyperX Cloud 2s.
Think he was just testing his out because it's just something he had on hand and if it works why spend extra money when he has a good setup but just can't use it right now. He could try to e.q. the sound but maybe he's not that into the engineering side of it...
For great all purposes headphones I would go for bose qc 35 or ath msr7 or ath m50xbt you would then want a modmic or a 3.5 mm jack lavalier microphone and a audios plitter if you are on a laptop if you have desktop you should have a line in for the lav mic and line out for your headphones. For a chair I love ikea desk chairs. Hope this helps ☺️

I think the Fusion 360 team is doing something smart here. Because to me it look a bit unfinished and releasing the feature is a great way to test it. But one important thing is that PEOPLE SHOULD USE IT even if it is rough. The large scale testing a community can do is invaluable to a software company. It is usually where the strange edge cases are found.
This is great, though it seems to lack the simplicity of cura. Not sure too many people will switch over, but it is nice to have other features and options
I'll scratch your back with a hearty recommendation for a mic/headset, for a favor or vid idea in return. 14 years ago my regular mic died while doing a podcast, so I ran a few doors down to the local music store and snagged a Samson USB studio mic for $65. Records crisp, clear audio, plug and play; hooked into Audacity it sounds like a $300 piece of equipment. And the best part, I still use it today with no loss of quality. They make headsets too and I nearly snagged one off Newegg last week when it was on a stupendous sale but ended up buying printer parts and supplies. Surprise surprise... =) If you want to get really nerdy, Plantronics makes a decent set of ears for a good price. Not sure of present, but in years past this was the same supplier for NASA. Not that they're known for great audio quality, but I thought it was a cool nod and my set lasted longer than I would have given them credit for. A wire short was their demise, but I figured 8 years of hard use and being stuffed into a computer bag as worth the $30 I paid for them. On the chair, I wish I could help. I've bought cheap ones and more expensive Executive chairs like the one I've had my butt in currently for four years (also broken and held together with a pair of vise grips), and in either case the hydraulic will fail like 2 days after the warranty expires. A replacement is almost as much as the chair, so if you find a good one with lasting power, let me and your community know! Beyond that, I've been having issues with my printer head smacking my prints around and either causing catastrophic fails or issues beyond remedial repair. Looking on the web I've read up on any of a hundred possible causes, but at present I can be sure it's not hardware as I just gave it a 100% tune up, and the printer itself is 2 weeks old. It's also a delta, so a good 95% of the Prusa's reported on forums having the same problem--though of slight use in diagnosis and general reading interest--didn't help much. So either it's slicer settings related, firmware or filament? (This is your video idea return favor request, cough cough). Add: Samson C01U Pro USB Studio There ya go. 80 bones on Amazon straight to your door.
Fix your chair with a length of PVC pipe split vertically and placed around the metal shaft. Cable tie every 2"s. $5 fix that will allow the leather to wear some before needing total replacement :)

Recommendations for equipment for you: Headset: Audio-Technica BPHS1 Broadcast Stereo Headset with Dynamic Boom Mic. Sweetwater has them in stock Item BPHS1. Chair: hear me out before you shake your head.. lol. I’d recommend a Racing Seat Gaming Chair. I know your probably not gaming, but take into consideration that these chairs are made and contoured for sitting in them for HOURS at a time. I like the Desino gaming chair as a cheaper option. You might never need\use the footrest, but it has great lumbar support and an adjustable reclining back. For a more expensive option (and one of the most comfortable I’ve sat in), I’d recommend the AKRacing Masters Series Max Gaming Chair. The Blue one is on sale right now for $378 at Amazon vs $485 for the Indigo or $450 for the white(accent colors). It's normal for a CNC machine not to home automatically before beginning its operation. Most CNCs are manually homed with the aid of an operator before the gcode program is started. Its "weird" in the proper machining world that 3D print instructions automatically include home as part of their files (makes perfect sense to a 3d printer, but is strange for the whole ecosystem). That should explain it.
Very cool stuff. So as someone who hasn't tried 3D printing yet here's what I see: as long as you do some playing around with the settings you only need one program to build and slice your models? That would take down one hurdle to getting started by saving on the learning curve a bit, I think. What are your thoughts, Joel? As always, high five.
hi. Thank you for doing this video. I designed a simple whistle and using your information, easily created the g-code. It is printing right now on my MK3S+, first non-canned part. The post processors for Prusa are in F360, ready to select.
I find the headset is subjective, but I've had huge pleasure in using a V-Moda crossfade m100, and the boompro mic. I've been told the mic sounds fantastic, and I recomend the memory foam earpads for the headset
If you're looking for a really high-quality office chair that will last and be comfortable for years and years, there's nothing better than an Aeron chair by Herman Miller. They're expensive, but (pardon the pun) won't let you down. Like shoes, office chairs are one of those things you really ought to try out in the store before you buy one.
I think this is a great first step towards making this another great tool to have in your kit! No doubt once they iron out a few bugs and add some more features down the line, it has potential to be really great!
Fusion 360 also has a easy method to directly save a model to 3D printer export file (save as gcode) to your favorite slicer program. I.e Cura or Prusa. Be aware there are some fusion 360 good glitches in their plug-in API.
Suggestions for a Fusion 360 neophyte...where to begin to learn it?? I have exceeded Tinkercad's capabilities so I'm now ready to learn a real CAD/CAM programm. Thanks Joel!
Not sure how much you're wanting to spend on a chair, but I'd recommend one from secretlabs. A little pricey, but by far the best computer chair I've ever used.

Being new to the world of 3d printing I'd love to hear which slicing program you'd recommend, if not Fusion 360. I've access to Fusion 360 for free (one of the very few perks of being a high school teacher) so I'll check it out. Seems Fusion is new to the game. Recommendation?
I use a samson q2u hooked up to a goxlr mini (but you can use that mic on usb if you want to save money) and a pair of Audio Technica ATH_M50x. Would highly recommend but you'll need an arm for the mic

I had that problem too. But when starting the Post Process, you can select the printer model in the first row in the table on the right, under Program Settings and then it homes and does a mesh bed leveling. At least, this worked for me and my Prusa i3 Mk2.

Hey Joel, longtime fan here. i was looking to buy a 3d printer that could construct 30in x 30in x 6in 3D models that werent particularly detailed. Whats your suggestion on 3D printer I should go for? the larger type that can print the piece in one shot or a smaller one that prints out in pieces and you glue them? anyway, love the videos!
Underrated. Maybe tear down some usb mic and take the small ,actual mic in it. Or one could take a mic from a broken laptop or so and turn it into a lav one
I think Autodesk has a way to go to perfect this. Much easier to just export an STL and slice it with my normal workflow. That way I only have to worry about printer configs in one place. With this, I'd have to configure printer settings here, and printer settings in my normal slicer (Cura) when I'm using STL files from some other place than Fusion 360.
Hi Joel, interesting stuff here. I am a Simplify3D user, but I do all of my modelling in F360. Would you say F360 is in a place where it can take over from dedicated slicers such as Simplify3D?
I would say that you maybe should wait for a bit more for Fusion to get it more stabile and work a bit mire with it. But for a not to far future I really think that Fusion could be a competitor to dedicated slicers.

Hey Joel, for chair recommendations check out SecretLabs Titan XL. I have the batman edition which is super comfy and adjustable. After owning a couple gaming chairs the Titan was worth the price. I found gaming chairs to be too bolstered and narrow. Hope this helps!

You should try Solidworks or Inventor. The only reason to use Fusion is because it's free.

There is no low frequencies in your microphone. It is still good like text file instead of movie: information still there.

you can export from f360 directly to your slicer, just change from meshmixer to cura, prusaslicer, etc.

I've bought cheap ones and more expensive Executive chairs like the one I've had my butt in currently for four years (also broken and held together with a pair of vise grips), and in either case the hydraulic will fail like 2 days after the warranty expires. A replacement is almost as much as the chair, so if you find a good one with lasting power, let me and your community know!
Beyond that, I've been having issues with my printer head smacking my prints around and either causing catastrophic fails or issues beyond remedial repair. Looking on the web I've read up on any of a hundred possible causes, but at present I can be sure it's not hardware as I just gave it a 100% tune up, and the printer itself is 2 weeks old. It's also a delta, so a good 95% of the Prusa's reported on forums having the same problem--though of slight use in diagnosis and general reading interest--didn't help much.
So either it's slicer settings related, firmware or filament? (This is your video idea return favor request, cough cough).

Fix your chair with a length of PVC pipe split vertically and placed around the metal shaft. Cable tie every 2"s. $5 fix that will allow the leather to wear some before needing total replacement :)

Chair: hear me out before you shake your head.. lol. I’d recommend a Racing Seat Gaming Chair. I know your probably not gaming, but take into consideration that these chairs are made and contoured for sitting in them for HOURS at a time. I like the Desino gaming chair as a cheaper option. You might never need\use the footrest, but it has great lumbar support and an adjustable reclining back.
For a more expensive option (and one of the most comfortable I’ve sat in), I’d recommend the AKRacing Masters Series Max Gaming Chair. The Blue one is on sale right now for $378 at Amazon vs $485 for the Indigo or $450 for the white(accent colors). This one has both lumbar and neck support set on straps so it doesn’t really move on you.

You are very entertaining and fun to watch
It's normal for a CNC machine not to home automatically before beginning its operation. Most CNCs are manually homed with the aid of an operator before the gcode program is started. Its "weird" in the proper machining world that 3D print instructions automatically include home as part of their files (makes perfect sense to a 3d printer, but is strange for the whole ecosystem). That should explain it.
Hey Joel, When looking at the generated G-Code, are arc/circles simple G0/G1 X/Y moves, or are arc's created using I's and J's or R's?
jalanjarosz G2 and G3 are arcs. I and J are the center point of the arc. R is a simplified command only using the radius, sometimes comes out funny.
Very cool stuff. So as someone who hasn't tried 3D printing yet here's what I see: as long as you do some playing around with the settings you only need one program to build and slice your models? That would take down one hurdle to getting started by saving on the learning curve a bit, I think. What are your thoughts, Joel? As always, high five.
hi. Thank you for doing this video. I designed a simple whistle and using your information, easily created the g-code. It is printing right now on my MK3S+, first non-canned part. The post processors for Prusa are in F360, ready to select.
I find the headset is subjective, but I've had huge pleasure in using a V-Moda crossfade m100, and the boompro mic. I've been told the mic sounds fantastic, and I recomend the memory foam earpads for the headset
If you're looking for a really high-quality office chair that will last and be comfortable for years and years, there's nothing better than an Aeron chair by Herman Miller. They're expensive, but (pardon the pun) won't let you down. Like shoes, office chairs are one of those things you really ought to try out in the store before you buy one.

I used it on my cr10 and it worked well. The only thing I did change was the park position from 390 to 200.

Fusion 360 also has a easy method to directly save a model to 3D printer export file (save as gcode) to your favorite slicer program. I.e Cura or Prusa.
Be aware there are some fusion 360 good glitches in their plug-in API.
Joel, your distance to platform was set at 5mm in the orientation setup. Maybe that had something to do with it printing in mid air???
Suggestions for a Fusion 360 neophyte...where to begin to learn it?? I have exceeded Tinkercad's capabilities so I'm now ready to learn a real CAD/CAM programm. Thanks Joel!

I use a samson q2u hooked up to a goxlr mini (but you can use that mic on usb if you want to save money) and a pair of Audio Technica ATH_M50x. Would highly recommend but you'll need an arm for the mic

For a headset i suggest getting a nice pair of headphones and either a standalone mic or a modmic. Either option is good!

I had that problem too. But when starting the Post Process, you can select the printer model in the first row in the table on the right, under Program Settings and then it homes and does a mesh bed leveling. At least, this worked for me and my Prusa i3 Mk2.
Hey Joel! For chairs, I can't recommend much. For headsets though, I would recommend checking out the Steel Series Headsets. They are really comfy and have good built-in mics. Great Vid btw
I don't see the infill you used in S3D. Where did you get that option? Or was it built in Fusion and then just sliced in S3D?
for headphones, get hd600 with dac/amp and for the mic, get an antlion modmic

Hey Joel, longtime fan here. i was looking to buy a 3d printer that could construct 30in x 30in x 6in 3D models that werent particularly detailed. Whats your suggestion on 3D printer I should go for? the larger type that can print the piece in one shot or a smaller one that prints out in pieces and you glue them? anyway, love the videos!
I think the biggest feature and probably the only one I'll use is that you can export your model as .3MF from the Additive manufacture workspace.

I think Autodesk has a way to go to perfect this. Much easier to just export an STL and slice it with my normal workflow. That way I only have to worry about printer configs in one place. With this, I'd have to configure printer settings here, and printer settings in my normal slicer (Cura) when I'm using STL files from some other place than Fusion 360.

I am a Simplify3D user, but I do all of my modelling in F360. Would you say F360 is in a place where it can take over from dedicated slicers such as Simplify3D?
I would say that you maybe should wait for a bit more for Fusion to get it more stabile and work a bit mire with it.
But for a not to far future I really think that Fusion could be a competitor to dedicated slicers.
When S3D will finally release V5... I dont need it anymore... 😁
@@eke0909 I have tried it out and am happy with it, just on the basis that I don't need to switch programs to slice my models. It works well enough for my use, and it's free unlike S3D so I'm happy :)

Hey Joel, for chair recommendations check out SecretLabs Titan XL. I have the batman edition which is super comfy and adjustable. After owning a couple gaming chairs the Titan was worth the price. I found gaming chairs to be too bolstered and narrow. Hope this helps!
