  • To save space for the release of DDR EXTREME, Konami removed a plethora of background videos from the two MAX games that preceded it. Because of the considerable overlap of songs between these two games, many songs lose their original background videos. This is an exploration of the songs that exist in both DanceDanceRevolution MAX 2 and EXTREME.

Thnx for including the videos from the "CHALLENGE" songs!

28:18 You skipped "CRASH!". Between DDRMAX2 and EXTREME, the animation featuring the lady in blue (DDRMAX2) got swapped out for the fan in the white background (DSEM2 and EXTREME).

@@mjc5678-ve8rr CRASH only appeared as a preview song in DDRMAX2 PS2 JAPAN. This DDRMAX2 is AC.

How did you get AFRONOVA megamix in 1:53 to be in HEAVY mode?

probably a blank chart in DDRMAX2

Since the challenge-only songs are not regularly available in DDRMAX2, I figured it would be easier to simply force them onto the regular song wheel than play through the Oni courses just to record them. Made trivial if using Cheat Engine and MAME.

Are you going to do Dancing Stage EuroMIX2 vs. DDR EXTREME? Many exclusive backgrounds from EuroMIX2 are not being brought to DDR EXTREME.

I can check these out, but I'm currently a little tired of playing through songs just to record their background videos. I have a few other projects in the works, and in a while I'll get back to these.

Fortunately unlike in ddrmax vs ddr extreme, that the reductions seem forced
Many of These reductions/changes makes the songs look better and on point in extreme tho. Some bga on ddrmax2 look random and unrelated for the songs
the only songs that look better in ddr max2: break down, brilliant 2u (slightly), d2r, living in america, luv again tonight, MAXX UNLIMITED, secret rendeszvous, super star oni and sweet sweet magic (slightly)
the rests they are tie or even better in extreme

IMO and also the fever nylon and step up are indeed better to be removed. their usages are always not in place and also the worst BGA in ddr max and max 2 series

Not to mention, "La Senorita" and "MIRACLE" use the same animations regardless of game, pretty much. At least there's no Mad Piano jumpscare in the former, particularly in DDR Extreme.

honestly the only songs id say get an improvement are Holic and Higher, /maaaaybe/ Matsuri JAPAN FNSM but like, they're equally kinda dogshit in terms of following the song other than the fireworks.

Well, I made a custom song in DDRMAX2 where I ported over "RHYTHM AND POLICE ~K.O.G. G3 Mix~" using "MATSURI JAPAN ~FROM NONSTOP MEGAMIX~" as a base. I thought the telephone robot animations would fit better in the former track. (Ironically, both remixes were made by K.O.G.)
