I didn’t know I needed a top 15 impersonation talking about ddr stepcharts but I guess I did Also “This song debuted in the original beatmania meaning it sounds like a midi track” had me rolling
you forgot something about Bag, the song is actually 130 bpm, but they inexplicably halved the bpm to 65. had the bpm actually been the proper 130 bpm, it would have been entirely quantized to 12th notes, which would have been less broken. So yeah, that chart is a fault of sheer stupidity on konami's part
I'm not sure that this is entirely accurate; to the best of my understanding, the lack of 12th quantization would have still existed, but its effects would have been far less pronounced had the BPM been 130. So it would still have been janky and offbeat, but in a way more like Burning Heat (3-Option Mix).
The real question, and one that I could never get the answer to, are they good players? For Pump It Up, the step artists are credited. They range from "very good" to "best player in the world" (Fefemz), as seen in the Stepper's Championship.
That’s also a problem with a lot of GH/RB/CH customs. It annoys me when there are descending notes when the melody is clearly ascending and when they use the same “chords” in the chart when the guitar is clearly playing through different chords.
I literally taught my niece how to play 1, 2, Step by teaching her how to do the 1-2-Step. It makes perfect sense if you're interacting with 8-year-olds. But hard agree on Dead End and Uh La La being the hottest of garbage.
There is now an official, intentional hand, but it’s done through a quirk of the engine. Megalovania was added to DDR A3 and the ESP includes a Freeze that ends at the same time as a jump occurs. This was likely intentional as the chart is a massive troll in line with the source material.
There are actually two more instances of hands in the Ultramix series for North America! In Ultramix 2, the Challenge chart of "echo !mage - Skulk" has a two bracketable jumps during a freeze arrow near the start. In Ultramix 3, the Expert chart of "901(Clay) - The Cat In The Moon" has an overlapping freeze arrow at the end.

You have to keep the original chart authentic. Sure you can have a good score on shuffle or mirror, but how well can you do on the real chart is the question for world records and competitions.
@@MilktubeExcept you don't have to do that even at KAC, let alone world records. The only person who would willingly play DEGRS without a turn mod at KAC is FEFEMZ.

Have you thought about doing a Top 15 Best (or your personal favorite) Stepcharts video as a companion to this one? I feel like seeing them back to back would really emphasize how good the best and how bad the worst charts are.
Nice video. Love your commentary. Can I add that there's a song called GORGEOUS 2012 in Supernova, where the level for basic is a 5 footer, but the chart is about the same as the beginner level. Also the song in Extreme called Funk Boogie has a 5 footer in standard, but it's a way more easier chart than in light, which is a 4 footer.
The CSP chart isn’t too bad, for a 19. I don’t think it’s worse than the ones on this list, even then, there are worse charts than egoism CSP that could be honorable mentions. The CDP chart, however, is a different story
Uh La La La was so bad, good call there. Also props for including a Beginner chart, it's especially awful. XD But I will not tolerate a bad word for Ska a go go! You take that back! D:
When I played 1, 2, Step on Beginner for the first time, I thought my Wii bugged out. Edit: I was playing DDR Hottest Party 1 when playing the 1, 2, Step Beginner, just in case you're wondering.
LOL wow this video is hilarious. Also, I always assumed the dev-mode of DDR composing the steps wouldn't allow for 3 steps on a single note..... but here we are :)
@@achan1058 DDR came out in 1998 and same with this. So, DDR 1.5 made ITG and Roxor and they were sued by Koknami for the hand arrows. What were they thinking.
I looks to me that in Horatio challenge, you were just supposed to hit the center panel (or any other inert panel) instead of any arrow in those streams?
It is actually possible to hit 3 pads at once when that occurs, although it can be difficult for players. Certain charts basically require bracketing to maintain combo. The Legend of Maxx Doubles chart on Expert immediately comes to mind. You see this more often in Pump It Up instead because of the locations of the pads.
The guy in the video for Dead End Groove Radar Special is CHRS4LFE, right? He has updated that record with only 9 perfects now, and he has stated that the jump jackhammer is possible to full Marvelous. So yeah, it's not edited.
Regarding the patch for Supernova, it wasn't through internet connectivity, patch discs were sent to the arcades. The game was really that bad on release.
Man, it's amazing to see the sort of stuff that gets through quality control, some of these feel so blatantly absurd it feels like their inclusion had to be intentional. I am a little surprised this didn't include the chart for cutie chaser that literally had notes placed before the chart stars, so it is literally impossible to perfect for a flaw beyond the player's control. Just...how did nobody notice that before the game released...?
#15: damn, those spins look fun af. #9: holy shit, that song is my jam. I legit love that song and the chart (though I admit the empty measure is kind weird). #7: I've played Unreal before, but those jump streams look so damn fun. I'll have to give it another shot for the jump spin shenanigans.
As far as #14 goes I would say it sounds like a blast beat. I don't wanna be a jerk and link it but check it out on Wikipedia, they have a good page for it.
I personally prefer the old Dead End chart from DDR 3rd mix than the monstrosity of the Groove Radar Special. There is one part of the original Dead End Heavy chart where you could do a cool spin I called "The Dead End Spin". However, the groove radar special is absolute 💩

Half of the people that step charts arent musicians, which allowed for half of these atrocities to exist
to be fair, most of these rhythms could be written with nested tupplets, and rests. maybe they were just too advanced :p
