One of those moments that is like Nostalgia in the present tense. You just know you're watching something special. Although Root still hopefully has a long time to go yet and is really in many ways just about at his peak, it did feel like today was, in some sense, a handing on of the baton from Root to Brook...the day Brook stepped out of Root's shadow. When Root's gone and Brook is still continuing on, we'll look back on this moment when we had both simultaneously as very very special indeed.

I don't know the ins and outs of what is possible, but it is so hard there to produce a wicket that has something, not just for the batters but also the bowlers as well? This test has been torture for the fielding side, the heat, and the endless grind of just giving your best to no avail. Demoralising for everyone concerned.
It's harder to do in drier parts of the world. In countries where water is plentiful from above (rainfall) and below (deep water tables) it's easier to produce a pitch with grass and moisture. Pakistan wants to keep producing high quality fast bowlers and are resisting the temptation to create dusty, crumbly pitches that only spinners can bowl on.
