We were playing in a six-a-side tournament near London, which involved an overnight stay. One of our lads had to pull out on the day we were travelling down but we managed to get a last minute replacement.
First game, we asked our replacement why he wasn't getting changed? "Changed into what?" Oh dear!
He trots out in what he travelled down in, trainers, jeans, T shirt and a heavy leather jacket - it wasn't even cold but he refused to leave it in the changing room and consequently kept everything he had in the pockets. We bowled first, told this lad to get his over out of the way, his first ball, you could hear everything, keys, change, toothbrush etc, clanking around in his pockets from the boundary - The batsman stopped him in his first run up to enquire what the noise was, we were pissing ourselves. He might have even taken a wicket if I remember rightly?
      Thanks Darren, what a laugh.

The num9 came out, smashed his first ball down into the ground and it reared up above his head. The none striker, worried about it going onto his stumps cried "Kick it away!". The batter, as he searched for it somewhere in the sky, stumbled towards his stumps and in the process kicked all 3 of them halfway to Manchester! 😂 #hitwicket #30-8 #embarrassing

I played village cricket , always had a good time post match , unlike football when it was straight home.
In the 50's the Lancashire league had many world class players in their ranks , West Indian test players like Sobers . One ex Windie Roy Gilchrist a fast bowler with a fast temper . In his last match against India he would deliberately overstep the crease by yards and deliver a beamer on one occasion hit the batsman on the head knocking his turban off.
Image a young kid coming out to face him. But they did without helmets for years.
One story a read was regarding the great batsmam Herbert Sutcliffe who was guesting for a league side . He came in and was bowled first ball by Gilchrist . On old women shouted out , we came here to see him bat not your bowling.

at 4:28 , that was the type of ball i could bowl . ok, it was the ' only ' ball i could bowl , but at school , it moved, or it didnt , the batters never knew. And when i was around 11 or 12 , we were playing in the semi final of the house cup , and i was the bowler for the second over. Took a wicket with the first three balls. I was stunned , my team was stunned , the opposition were stunned. 4th guy comes in. For a 12 year old, biggest guy on both teams. Walked out , looked at me and said " dont you dare". Ive got a hat trick , what do i care? :) Same ball as the last three, he took a big swing , bye bye stump. He chased me half way back to the pavillion. I was laughing so hard , i couldnt breathe. Well. The next guy comes out , and that was my energy gone. They beat us by one run , or one wicket , cant remember. But i'll never forget that one over. And i still remember his name. :)

I played at a slightly higher level, was a mediocre batter and bowler. But, following an embarrassing missed catch when I was about 17, I turned myself into as good a fielder as anyone. The trick was working out how to be completely relaxed and totally focussed on my toes at the same time. Got loads of catches and run outs because batters didn't expect such catching or speed to get ball back to stumps from boundary. It made the whole day more interesting, especially if I'd got out early or didn't bat at all. Couldn't transfer the fielding attitude to the batting or bowling

We don't get to hear it much when he's on commentary but Nasser has the best laugh. 2:39 is a little taste.

The guy who tried to stop the ball from the other side of the boundary would have done better if he had noticed that the ball actually stopped before he touched it.

Some of those clips aren't village cricket. The one with the guy running in circles, falling and throwing the ball into his foot isn't even cricket, it is the "Uncoordinated Championships".

My funniest 2 dismissals might appear on this. I was on 40, clipped off the pads behind square, saw the fielders give up so did some gardening. Ball had stuck in a hole and it was a direct hit from the boundary.
