So subistute everything I said about Cedric juniper and pretend I was saying it about Blaines quiz show instead 🤣 got the two cards mixed up unfortunately
So I think the reason Psyduck appears everywhere is because it’s Junichi Masuda’s favorite Pokémon. In fact, Let’s Go Pikachu’s counterpart game was supposedly planned to be Lets Go Psyduck
I definitely knew about about 5 retreat cost thing, because way back then I got a Wailord ex in Sandstorm and everything about it was crazy. I think it had the highest HP stat ever at the time, and was the first time I had ever seen a move with a minus next to it instead of a plus.
@@BurtsPTCG This card actually made me wonder if it was possible to do negative damage (i.e. heal an opponent) since this card could reach -90 damage. And then a few years later they introduced Heal Pulse in the actual games, which does exactly that.
The segment at 3:26 about Papa Cedric Juniper is interesting. In YGO, we have a card with a similar concept called Question thats a Spell. It prevents the opponent for checking the Graveyard and asks for thr name of the bottomost monster there. If opponent is wrong, the monster gets Special Summoned. If they name it correctly, the monster gets banished instead. Theres also a spell called "Yu-Jo Friendship" that asks for thr player to offer the opponent a handshake. If yes, both players Life Points are added then divided by 2 to become equal to one another. If no, nothing happens. If the player has another Spell called "Unity" and reveals it, they MUST accept the handshake. A ruling for "Yu-Jo Friendship" came out that states the player can accept the idea of a handshake to resolve the full effect and doesnt have to actually perform the handshake. This ruling was pre-2019 as well for anyone wondering. Why? Well YGO players took it too far and did unsanitary things beforehand just to resolve "Yu-Jo Friendship" to force a handshake with a flithy hand. Mind you, "Unity" and "Yu-Jo Friendship" SUCK as cards. These two cards are always on the Worlds banlists despite the ruling that came out for it as stated before. YGO players 😂
Yugioh has a ton of cards that require a player to "name" a monster/card they might not be familiar with (eg. an opponent's card): Question, Sales Ban, Prohibition, Gravekeeper's Trap, D.D. Designator, Mind Crush, Goddess Urd's Verdict, etc. In those cases, it's been ruled that if you describe enough details of the card and its effects to uniquely identify it, that's sufficient. However, if you do name a legal card that isn't the card your meant, fail to uniquely describe one card, or get some quality about it wrong, the card effectively "whiffs." Which is bullshit, given there are over 10,000 cards, tons of retrains and re-retrains, and archetypes with tons of junk commons. (The same rule used to apply in MTG, because it was a big controversy regarding "Borborygmos Enraged" - which saw tons of meta play - and "Borborygmos" - an older junk card. Now, it's based on common sense - if both players can be expected to know what you MEANT, that's how it goes. So, with MTG rules, if you said "Black Luster Soldier," and the BLS Link 3 was seeing meta play, then that's the card you named.) Cedric Juniper, Blaine's Quiz Show, etc. are different because they refer to mechanically irrelevant flavor text, like the Pokemon's height or attack name. (Attack names only being relevant for things like Night March or United Wings.) It's completely unreasonable to expect a player to know Pokemon's height or weight (especially in both metric & imperial), or attack names in every language. It would be like a card in Yugioh that had you read the 8 digit password at the bottom of a card, or its set code, and expect your opponent to identify it.
The Jasmine investigation is easily answered by her dress. In the gen 2 sprite and art it’s plain white bottom, but in the more modern artwork she has extra frills of a different color at the bottom
If I remember correctly, Psyduck is Junichi Masuda's favorite pokemon. For those who don't know, Masuda-san is famous for directing the Pokemon video games and is also the one who programmed the cries of each pokemon. He is also the one who programmed shiny pokemon in eggs to have a higher rate when bred with two pokemon from two different regions. This was dubbed, the Masuda method. Perhaps that may be the reason Psyduck is on all of these cards?
I absolutely love videos like this, i just like random but fun facts, and a big franchise like pokemon is sure to have alot of them, Great Video! Keep making amazing videos! 👍
Titan - I think you nailed it. If they ever do anything with the Titan Pokemon in the TCG - I bet those would have 5 retreat cost. Also I did know about the misspelled Phampy. :P
Might as well jump in on the Jasmine debate. Yes, that is Gen 4 Jasmine. However, she has more than one Steelix that she uses in Gen 4. Her gym Steelix is female in HGSS. In Sinnoh however, she participates in contests with a male Steelix named Rusty. Back in HGSS, she returns from a trip to Sinnoh, and trades you that Steelix for anything. So thank you Jasmine for adding some consistency to the timeline.
Jasmine's steelix could be the one she trades to the player in HGSS named Rusty We never see her use it in battle and it's a bit of an obscure choice since it's only from an ingame trade and in DPPT contests but she does at least have one that isn't the RNG based black and white tournament ones
I saw that and thought there's probably no way they wanted to use a contest one for the card but i guess its a possibility👀😂 as for the pwt teams i decided to overlook them cause like you said its random so that's no fun :p
