At the pre-opera lecture at the Dallas premier, the speaker said he thinks that Jake Heggie has probably just broken the barriers of writing what you are 'supposed' to write (atonal) and what you want to write (melodic). I agree. There is a cd out now, too.
Don't forget Chopin too. The bits at 3:30 and 4:30 are very reminiscent of a melody from his 1st piano concerto. ruclips.net/video/LPa7jjeKVR4/видео.htmlm57s
@@rk100364 I believe it was the PrimaDonnaAssoluta Maria Callas that said: “When music fails to agree to the ear, to soothe the ear and the heart and the senses, then it has missed the point.” Atonal music is hot flaming pseudo-artistic garbage and one of the main reasons orchestral music and modern opera is no longer as popular as it once was.
That's a stylised piece within the opera, that's "theatre within theatre" thing, when a heroine of the opera performs a "rediscovered opera" from the past to present it to the American audiences.
What a joy to discover a new aria, and one so beautiful. A wonderful sublime reading. Where can I find the translation, does anyone know? Thank you Jake Heggie

Like always, so sincere, beautiful and unsurpassable!
I cannot get the words, but I am moved to tears every time I have heard it. I just found it today and have listened 3 times.
there is now a cd available... waiting for mine to arrive.
Edward Inderrieden yes it renders tears... i am touched so very deeply each time I listen to it...
Speechless. Unspeakable Beauty.
The choir listens attentively and she sings it so soulfully and wonderfully ....
Fantastic Joyce!
Joyce is Choice - wonderful is all she does. . .
Sublime, sublime, sublime!!!
Une merveille
Anything she sings is my favorite song
Magnifique interprétation de Joyce Di donato c'est une pure merveille !
What a beautiful music!
Takes courage in our days to compose something so tonally sensible. Sounds like Lakme, Daphne, and something by Handel rolled in one 🙂

Very sweet how she acknowledged Jake Heggie (in the audience apparently). 🫱🏻
