I think to have AM frequencies, it must hook up to the radio.
Yes, the antenna lead plugs into the small socket on the factory radio for AM reception. You also need to make sure the radio is properly grounded.
I can't do this ..I purchased same Athena but hard to do it

No it do not.. make sure to buy the adapter for the antenna

Do you need to add any grease on teeth before Install ?
U do not need to grease or anything. Make sure u have the adapter to install the small antenna.
So you don’t have to remove the motor inside? Won’t it continue to go on and off in an attempt to move the original antenna up and down?
Yes, I left the motor alone and the motor will go on and off. When u replace the aftermarket antenna. The antenna will not go up and down.
Nice replacement antenna swap . Where did buy that antenna?
