I think he was the ultimate fantasy character of sinbad as he is nothing less then the actual sinbad just the perfect role for him. He was too good looking to be true. All of the Hollywood actors of the 1940s 50s nd 60s were just too beautiful

Allan was clearly trying to trip Douglas up by mentioning Clark Gable, Gable was Joan Crawford's lover during their marriage. Douglas was very honest himself about having affairs during their marriage as well, he was only 19 when they married.
