Slapped this chit in my 1987 Camara..which had an internal coolant leak. I bypassed the heater core, took out the t-stat, and follered the directions to a T. Two years later and the sumbitch is still runnin like a top. The stuff worked for me.

Thanks for this video Joseph. Just the sort of no-nonsense information (and no sponsor!) I needed. Trying to sell my daughters car when prospective buyer alerted me to the fact that the head gasket had a slight leak (tiny smudge of mayonnaise-like goo on expansion bottle lid, slight white-smoking from exhaust)...I was embarrassed because I never noticed it. Thinking that I needed a £750 head gasket repair I found your video - Perfect! Thanks!... Denis, London England

I've used this product twice in my van when the labeling said it contained graphite. First time was in 2011 after 4 spark plugs became coated with wet combustion deposits. Found gas bubbles in the radiator coolant so was told by a local auto parts chain to use Bar's Leak since the auto repair shops won't use anything else. It worked and held up for 6 years / 15,000 miles before missing, overheating and bubbles in the radiator coolant reappeared. The second treatment has lasted 6 years / 15,000 miles. My '88 Chevy van has around 300,000 miles on it now so recently it went from running great to start/won't idle overnight. Found 4 vacuum leaks that didn't resolve the issue after being repaired so I replaced the 26 year old Duralast ICM. That helped it idle for a few seconds before stalling so replaced the original TPS and IAC. That fixed the problem so allowed the engine to idle for one hour to recharge the battery. The next morning it was back to start/ won't idle. I got it to idle by placing hard paper shims between the idle speed screw and the throttle cam then went to remove the radiator cap to check for exhaust bubbles since the engine was now missing. Saw too many bubbles so am getting ready to treat it for the third time with Bar's Leak new and improved product. I have a small vacuum gauge installed in the dash that showed 20 lbs of vacuum when idling for one hour. The next morning it now read 17 lbs at start then dropping with the pointer waving between 15 and 11 lbs while idling. It did the same thing in 2011 when cylinders 3 & 5 and 4 & 6 had coolant seepage so required non-foul plug adapters to keep the spark plugs dry while idling after adding the treatment. I'll be removing those four plugs to see how wet they are since I kept the adapters with a set of new plugs in the van just in case they'll be needed again. I have the van an Italian tune-up the day before it wouldn't idle in the morning so suspect sustained high speeds may affect the sealant plugs since the second treatment was required after driving 400 miles on the interstate with a full load in back and towing a fully loaded enclosed trailer. At that time I only removed the #5 plug to find it slightly wet with coolant so didn't bother to use the non-fouls. The missing stopped within a few minutes as the product sealed off the leaks. The plugs were new then so left them in to this date since their replacement intervals are every 30,000 miles. I'll remove #5 again to check its condition since it was the worst of the four that was affected in 2011.

I usually don't like the band-aid approach. 9 out of 10 times I'll crack the head off, get it machined, new head gasket, timing belt, etc. However for my 300k + mile honda element it didn't make financial sense to do a head job as the price for all the parts I can swap with a JDM (uses a timing chain so more expensive). I didn't want to put money into a 300K mile motor. It had a minor combustion leak in the cooling system, I was losing about 2 cups of coolant every couple of weeks. Full reservoir. Drove fine. So I tried this stuff and it worked. No more coolant loss. Ill run the engine into the ground and swap it out when it gives the ghost. So for a newer car I would do the job right, but for a beater this stuff is gold.

You have to read the wording on the directions carefully it clearly states will not clog up a CLEAN heater core. So I highly advise to do a backflush on the heater core and flush the radiator this works best if you pull out the thermostat after you reassemble use mix sealer with distilled water although it does have a lower boiling point if you can afford to run antifreeze with it maybe that would be could also but make sure your cooling system and heater core are flushed and thermostat out. Also you can bypass the heater core while the sealant is in it and reconnect when you drain it out

The real reason most people use this type of product is, they are trying to hide a problem before selling the car. I can't drive a car with confidence if I don't address and fix the problem, not just mask it.

Have a 2003 Ford Taurus with 200,000 on it and that mechanic told me the gaskets leaking I continue to put water in it I tried Blue devil and I tried k-seal neither of them work should I try this and how much should I put in if it keeps being empty when I say empty I mean the the radiator but in my car you just pour into the overflow but I'm losing water I continue to just put water in it watered it because I don't want to leak antifreeze! I haven't tried this yet but I just want to slow the leak down or else stop the leak I'm looking into a new car but the bars leak I hear sounds good

Just did my 2001 honda accord 238k miles on it .I used a bottle of bars leaks from Walmart ..I did flush my radiator out before I did it. I only used half a bottle.. so far so good..no bubbles after burping it.
Update..it finally started to bubble again. .so I did the headgasket job and it still had original gasket and was very worn down..all I can say is that it bought me sometime to get the money I needed to do the headgasket job..might work longer for some best of luck

You guys should disconnect hose from heater-core and join them together or likely will plug it up. Same old Water-glass treatment from years ago but maybe an improved product. Thanks, may try it someday! Ok, so cool warm cool warm means just a little airlock so open reservoir squeeze hoses and should clear it up...

The quickest and cheapest way of fixing a blown head gasket is to just pour some washing up liquid into your coolant bottle, the liquid breaks down all the oil and grease that has build up in the pipe and prevents the radiator from over heating. I did it with a taxi I used to drive the taxi had 100,000 miles on it. The garage quoted me 2000 euro for the fix. The bottle of washing up liquid only cost me 50 cents per month and I put another 90.000 miles on the car over the following 2 years. Do it, its cheap and it works.

Just treated my 91 Corolla to Bar's hg1... Car runs great, doesn't overheat, but Ive noticed excessive pressure on the coolant system before its warmed up, the resevoir fills up with coolant at higher engine speedsand spills over. and there's traces of oil in the reservoir, there is steam from exhaust.. I bypassed my heater core anyway.. I also bypassed my thermally activated IAC.. (if bars hg1 stops head gasket leaks, then it's capable of clogging the IAC and heater core..) with my engine cooled off I poured a little over half the bottle directly into the head via top radiator hose. I topped off my coolant.. I let it idle for 30+ minutes.. I let it cool completely overnight.. next morning I took it for a slow easy ride for about 30 mins.. I'm sitting in it letting it cool as I type.. hope this stuff works.. hope it lasts.. my head gasket symptoms were so minor that this stuff shouldn't have any issues sealing it. If it works.... great!! If not I'm doing a tear down, and sending head to machinist, and I will never use another cure in a bottle again...

This stuff works ive used it in 4-6-8cyl cars it last a long time 1/2yrs doesnt clog up if used correctly. Is always best to flush out system 1st. And on some cars it needs to go on the reservoir because theres no radiator cap. Unless u remove the upper radiator hose.
