    I was once accused of something I did not do. I was hurt, upset, disappointed, and frustrated because people just jumped to conclusions without hearing my side of the story. I tried to defend myself and stood my ground, but it was hopeless because others wouldn't listen or give me a chance to prove their accusations false.
    What I did was I left and spent some time alone. I allowed myself to feel the emotions and reassured myself. I told myself that it isn't my fault and I can't control the opinions of others about me nor can I control the situation. I can only control how I react to what I experienced. And that gave me a sense of peace and comfort, knowing that I was there for myself even when no else one was.

      Hi again @gintongaparador999 - thank you for sharing your emotions - it’s deeply painful to be wrongly accused, especially when others refuse to listen. Yet, your response reflects immense strength and wisdom. By choosing to retreat, feel your emotions, and focus on what you can control-your reaction-you found peace within yourself. This inner resilience is a powerful reminder that even when the world seems against us, we have the capacity to support and reassure ourselves. Your story is a testament to the power of self-awareness and self-compassion.

    My favorite Carl Jung quote: "Life really does start at 40; before that everything is just research." Thank God for alcohol and drugs. Thank God for the 12-step program that helps people deal with all the "research" they did prior to getting sober. Looking at life that way removes the "guilt," which is housed in the unconscious. Unfortunately, not enough "recovered" people are brave enough to uncover their shadows. They spend the rest of their "sober' lives living in fear that anytime they could return to their "evil" ways. I walked through the "dark night of the soul" and FREED myself from the fear. I am a WHOLE person today. Better said, I am no longer the person I was. I wrote my own 12 steps to bring the WHOLE person into the sunlight.

    “Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster... for when you gaze long into the abyss. The abyss gazes also into you.”

      You're absolutely right @ZenDragonJP -Nietzsche's warning and Lao Tzu's wisdom remind us that much of the conflict we see is rooted in shadow projection. • @OurTimelessWisdom
      @OurTimelessWisdom  14 дней назад +3

      Hey @nikki88tx - the abyss in Nietzsche's quote symbolizes the deep, dark aspects of ourselves or the world that we confront when facing challenges or fighting against what we perceive as evil. The warning is that if we focus too much on these dark elements, we risk becoming consumed by them, potentially becoming what we originally opposed. It's a reminder to stay mindful and not lose ourselves when confronting difficult or dark aspects of life.

    Whenever I am asked what my greatest fear is, my answer is always "myself" because I know how unpredictable I can be. One of the reasons why I am into psychology is because I wanted to understand myself better and others. I would do so by observing and listening to other people and making mental notes. I would write on my personal journal when I am reacting so negatively about something, I would write down my experience and explain why I feel a certain way or emotion or why I thought or acted a certain way. It helps me understand myself. What ticks me, what makes me happy, what excites me, what makes me feel dull. It gives me an idea of my character and if I don't like something about it, I try to change it.

    I read Carl a lot in past. A lot of it felt good to my intellect. But, at the end I kept asking myself, what would this be used for? Until, I went through extreme depression, it was due to prolonged sickness, but also some external events that happened around the same time that demolished me as if I was a house of cards. I did everything under the sun to feel better. I quit my job to focus on my mental health like a full time job. And I found the eternal sunshine in me. This story has a happy ending. But, in the process I realised that the world was not responsible for my pain, but myself. I was holding myself back from attaining my self Actualization. During my depression, and my attempt to feel better, I confronted my shadow self. I had my so called Ego Death and my Superego emerged to take care of me. (I know I am referencing Freud in a comment about Jung) And, all of a sudden Carl Jung started to make a lot of sense.

I wrote that I wanna be a musician, the teacher ask me why, and all the students is laughing, someone's said, "music is supposed to be just a hobby not a career". Fast forward I graduated from college and the covid hits. I became a freelance video editor. after covid gone I got interviewed by a local tv station, she asked me " what's your vision in your career? you applied to become video editor, any senior position do you want to achieve? " I said " I don't know " and the she suddenly asked me "what do you want to be? I subconsciously said " an artist " what kind of artist? she replied, and then I said "a musician". I don't know why I reply to such an answer, in a job interview. After reading Jung I realized she triggered my shadow, my repressed desire to become a musician. And I don't get the job obviously. I THINK I want normal, wife kids dog named skip etc...But I've had 3 separate times in life where God or the Universe or blind luck said "Here ya go, here's a great job, here's a wonderful girl that loves you, and here's a wholesome, stable life. And every single time. I have found a way to firebomb it. When I am in a relationship, I feel smothered, I want to be single. When I am single, I feel extreme remorse for letting a wonderful thing go. For pushing it away. And I want nothing more than to be back in a relationship.
      Whatever I'm doing, I want to be doing basically the opposite. I think that might be because I just want to end things before they are taken away. By some imaginary f*cking monster that exists solely to destroy anything good in my life. It is fake. It is a response to something that happened. Don't know what. Wasn't really bullied as a kid, played sports popular enough, fought anyone that tried. Had loving parents. Divorced, but, loving and both present in my life. But still. Would rather ruin them myself
      It is torment. I still love life. I make life fun when I'm around people, but every social interaction feels like work. I still partially feel like an alien, watching humans interact and be human. Learning as I go. Anyway. God be with you my friend. Feel like weirdly you know me better than parents, family, "friends." @therealthiccupstandingciti1674. It's not uncommon to fear happiness, as it can feel vulnerable to allow ourselves to fully experience joy when we're constantly guarding against potential pain. Jung would suggest that this fear stems from the shadow, the part of us that harbors unresolved anxieties and doubts. By acknowledging these fears and gradually integrating them, you can begin to open up to the light and embrace the happiness you deserve, without the constant worry of losing it. It's a journey of self-compassion and courage, and every small step forward counts.

    Repressed aspects of consciousness is one of the most challenging journeys to self discovery. It’s also the reason so many lack purpose and fulfillment. We often seek greater quality in relationships before assimilating all parts of our own being. I enjoy how young was willing to explore even the unconscious. This is taking the opportunity to perceive that which is beyond the mind. I know personally the shadow although in most cases is rejected, denied, and abandoned is just as important as the persona. Im learning that acceptance creates way for greater assimilation and integration.

    As a nation, as a people, we seem to be taught that anger is not acceptable, which is wrong. Anger has a purpose and can actually save our lives and ultimately make us more conscious as a people. America is the most aggressive violent nation on earth... As individuals and as a people, if we embrace and understand what Jung has to say about repressing the shadow self and then do what we can to accept and know our nation's shadow self, we as a people will become kinder, more considerate and spread love and compassion rather than racism, hatred, and violence.

    I am guilty of having a HORRIBLE, immature temper! Rage even. But, with and at myself mostly, and I don't usually ever show my anger in front of family and friends or other people. It's all in private when I rage and get really pissed off at and with myself. I struggle with being a perfectionist (impossible to ever achieve).
    One of my favorite (funny) sayings... "If someone else was as mean to me, and treated me, as badly as I do to myself - I'd call the cops on them!"
    I need to learn how to be MUCH, MUCH kinder/nicer, patient, and loving towards myself!! I'm A

      Ditto. Having compassion for myself is incredibly difficult. When I do manage it feels fake or forced.
      Yet, from a very early age I've felt deep empathy for others. I have always been able to know--feel is a better word --when a person is sad or depressed or worried, and address it, recognize it. It's almost like being psychic.
      But to do that for myself? I will be 78 in a couple of weeks. I still don't know how not to be hard on myself.
      There us another quote, similar to the one you wrote:
      "Would you treat a friend as badly as you treat yourself?"
      The mere thought of it is abhorrent. I could never swear at a friend and call him or her stupid, or an idiot, but I can can do that myself a few times a day.
      The only difference is that at least by now I recognize that the behavior is toxic and shocking

      It’s not uncommon to feel more compassion for others than for ourselves
      @elenalatici9568, as the shadow often contains the parts of us that we reject or criticize. Your awareness of this inner conflict is a powerful first step. The journey toward self-compassion involves integrating these hidden aspects, recognizing that they, too, deserve understanding and care. Just as you would never harm a friend, you must begin to treat yourself with the same empathy and gentleness.

    The single greatest improvement that people can make towards improving moral cohesion and general cooperation in a so-called civilised society is to accept the dual side of the personality and to stop seeing ourselves as wholly good and externalise all evil. The propensity to do wrong is inside all of us and how often have we shifted our blame to those we have injured, how often have we seen someone suddenly doing something completely out of character when it best suits their purposes, how often have we heard backhanded compliments? All these traits belong to the unexplored unconscious shadow.

To repress it is to allow it to grow unchecked, but to acknowledge it is to embrace the full spectrum of existence. Many individuals fear taking accountability for their actions, often allowing cowardice to dictate their choices. This tendency reflects a deeper issue in the human experience, where the very essence of our DNA calls for reconstruction and self-awareness. People forget that they cannot escape themselves nor the ghosts of their past decisions. Life cycles are influenced by this internal battle; however, embracing honesty and transparency can lead to profound transformation. Standoffish for NO reason. Not always, I can be normal and chill, love to laugh. But it's loke I have t brush off my shadow throughout the day until it's finally gone. Just to be reborn soon.

    From Jung's genius, I follow his approach to understanding our psyche as fundamentally monumental for the homeostasis of all life on this planet. It seems that a human being's demarcation of conscious self is solely attributed to superficial beliefs and mythologies adopted not only anecdotally but collectively through ages of evolution. I agree with the pivotal great need in understanding our biological nature as organisms evolving on this planet of which through us our cosmos senses itself as we are. So to all the dictators, warmongers and serial theologians, oh well, ha ha, the joke is on you ! Here we all are now without needing explorations to Mars but to and from the center of our minds -eye starting with the pineal gland. In turning inward, you uncover the sacred knowledge that guides all life, transcending the illusions imposed by superficial beliefs.

    This documentary is a real eye-opener! Carl Jung's insights into the shadow self have made me think deeply about the parts of myself I've been ignoring or repressing. It's fascinating how our hidden desires and fears can shape so much of our behavior.
    The exploration of personal and collective shadows, along with the practical steps for shadow work, feels like a crucial path to deeper self-awareness and growth. For example, I started noticing how I react strongly to certain people or situations-it's like these reactions are pointing to something deeper within me that I haven't fully acknowledged.
    This has led me to reflect more on my triggers and ask myself what unresolved issues might be lurking beneath the surface. It's not an easy journey, but it's incredibly rewarding to start understanding these hidden parts of myself and seeing how they influence my life. I'm curious if others have had similar experiences or if they've noticed changes in their own behavior after exploring these ideas. Pls share in the comments!

    There is quite a bit of error in the subtitles from 24:37 : "It is a regular observation that when you talk to an individual and this individual gives you insight into his inner preoccupations, interests, emotions, in other words, hands over his personal complexes, then you get slowly and willy-nilly into the situation of authority. You become a point of reference" then later the transcript goes: "You know you are in possession of all the important items in a person's development. Now you see, that creates an emotional relationship to the analyst, and that is what Freud called the transference, which is a central problem of analytical psychology. It is just so, as if these people had handed out their whole existence, and that can have very peculiar effects upon the individual. Either they hate you for it or they love you for it, but you are not indifferent to them."
    This part intrigued me a lot as I have hated myself sometimes for opening too much. So I guess when you hate them you chose poorly to whom to "spill your guts", and if you loved them the opposite is true. I had chose poorly in several occasions and this authority over me became a standard, and was wrongfully used so I couldn't get my points across as my views were repressed and shut down immediately. It is not too deep, it is just a friend, but my ego was hurt in several occasions because I longed for having a say in matters discussed and I wanted some authority. I am writing here instead of journaling it for myself basically, so I am sorry if it is a bit pointless. Anyway, I though this specific part of his speech didn't really deal with the shadow, but rather literarily with interpersonal relationships, which is obvious from the second part of the transcript that wasn't included.

      @OurTimelessWisdom  25 дней назад +1

      Welcome to OTW @kookadoo - reflecting on the dynamics of transference it's clear that projecting emotions onto others can create unintended authority and influence. Regret and self-hatred after opening up to the wrong person highlight the importance of choosing wisely whom to trust. When that trust is misused, it can lead to resentment and feelings of repression. The struggle to assert a voice and authority in conversations is valid and recognizing this is crucial for finding balance in relationships. While the passage may focus more on interpersonal dynamics than the shadow, it still reveals how inner complexities shape interactions.

    c´mon ... get serious.
    There are 3 layers of shadow inside every human:
    -> the very old trauma and conflict of the human-creator with later "god-complex". They represented all shapes of emotions, honesty, hate, love, desire, being helpless, etc. even the kain/abel conflict resides in each and every consciousness, which we are handed over through every birth. If you want to face that conflict, transform it inside of you. You are scared of this process because you really don´t know whats coming next (the unknown)
    -> the old trauma since birth in this lifetime. All conflicts of your parents, grandparents and your surrounding are sucked in during the first 6-10 years, when your consciousness isn´t that prepared to protect your unconsciousness of direct input. Who ever understands that part, knows what i am talking about
    -> your actual learning to deal with conflicts. If your surrounding, school, friends, parents don´t teach you the peaceful way to deal with conflicts and how to set boundries, you will always use the unconscious way (very old trauma) of using violence.
    that remembering and using as measurement explains a lot and you will not fall into the Carl Jung trap of becoming, who you afraid of, because you will get violent and unhuman (thats your biggest unknown fear inside of your human being).
    Therefor ... that´s the true awakening process and your choice, which path you will choose to walk. Being human and peacefull or walk the old way of acient trauma and violence.
    The ancient creators of humans already ran through this process, but none is talking about. Actual still the old stories are being told, but not the progress is made during the last thousands of years.
    it´s really that easy

      Welcome to OTW @dannydkasel8296 - this exploration of the layers of shadow touches on deep truths about the human psyche. Indeed, the shadow encompasses ancient traumas and conflicts that have been passed down through generations as well as the personal experiences of our own lives. The process of facing and integrating these shadows is not easy nor is it something to be feared-rather, it is essential for true individuation. The 'trap' you speak of is not a trap at all but an opportunity to transform the unconscious into consciousness to evolve beyond the primitive responses of our ancestors and to consciously choose a path of peace and humanity. This is the true awakening process, where one transcends old patterns and creates a new way of being.

    If you know you know. The mind can slip into a very deep dark place. If when inside you don’t learn and fight know that you’re in for a not only physical but mental war that can last years or all your life. Humble self and fall in love with your isolation.
    One thing I can tell you for sure is that when you emerge from the dark and can constantly be aware of self you see the world and self very differently.
    Stay humble. Keep your ego in check and look within self not out.
    But then again what do I know?
    Just a little Stoic Tea. Follow me. Soon vlogging. Jumping out of helicopters and more planes.. Taking you around NYC with a Stoic mindset.

      Your words resonate deeply @StoicTeaTime-emerging from the darkness with self-awareness truly transforms how we see the world and ourselves. Staying humble and introspective is key. By the way, I miss NYC-lived there for many years! Looking forward to following your journey with that Stoic mindset, good luck. 🤝

    Thanks for this because it is helping me put my mind at ease that I am just not crazy but so very much sane that I am exactly what is being defined in this video, the good side that is. And I very much understand I can be the equivalent of bad but that is not who I choose to be regardless of my life's situation. Not to get into the details of my personal situation but family and those who you think you can put your head on a block for, won't do the same for you. It is best to distance yourself, like me I rather spend money to rent than live in a house with fake people who lie, steal and manipulate you. Don't get to smart for peoplel, stay wise to yourself. And always remember, if people are lying to you, they are not. They are actually lying to themselves, that's their comfort zone. You keep standing, move on, take the risks for you to be where YOU NEED TO BE. More Love, Less Hate

      Hey @anaibarangan4908 welcome to OTW - I understand your concerns. It is indeed challenging to comprehend the long-term impacts of significant scientific projects. Accountability and understanding the consequences of our actions are crucial. As Carl Jung suggested recognizing and integrating our shadow is essential in this process. Seeking forgiveness is a step towards acknowledging our shared responsibility. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.🌞🌛

    If everyone has a shadow side then everyone has a light side as well. but I never hear them talk about that. I feel like the trick is to get you to "explore" your darker self only to find that you've been bamboozled in the end.

    • @rogueDND

      The shadow represents what you are repressing but is also part of you. Knowing your shadow is far more valuable that knowing what you already know.

    • @OurTimelessWisdom
      @OurTimelessWisdom  13 дней назад +1

      While the video focuses on exploring the shadow @KyleBeatz, it’s important to understand that this process is meant to complement and balance the light side of ourselves. The goal isn’t to dwell in darkness but to integrate these hidden aspects so they don't unconsciously affect us, ultimately allowing the light to shine more fully. The journey isn't about being bamboozled; it's about achieving wholeness by embracing both the light and shadow within us.🌛🌞

    • @OurTimelessWisdom
      @OurTimelessWisdom  13 дней назад +1

      You're absolutely right @rogueDND. The shadow represents the parts of ourselves that we often ignore or repress and by bringing these aspects into the light of our awareness we gain a deeper and more valuable understanding of who we truly are. Knowing your shadow allows for greater self-awareness and growth far beyond what we already consciously know.

    The powers that be kno how to manipulate our psychology. 100% its the herd that is unaware. And that is the danger

    • @OurTimelessWisdom
      @OurTimelessWisdom  25 дней назад

      The unconscious mind is indeed vulnerable to manipulation by external forces @wheeltwavel - especially when one remains unaware of the deeper psychological dynamics at play. The real danger lies in the herd mentality, where the individual loses touch with their own inner truth. Awakening to this reality is the first step toward reclaiming autonomy and consciousness.

    Love is anxiety. Attachment is suffering. Life is suffering. Relationships are two insecure individuals that use and tolerate each other for their own selfish needs and wants all for the fear of being alone. They are all toxic on some level and narcissistically controlled by one. This is not love and this is no way to live but most and many do out of fear. All relationships are full of lies, deceit and manipulative manipulation due to hate which comes from fear. Everything we do is out of fear. If everyone truly knew what everyone was thinking then no one would have any friends and relationships would not be a thing. We are all winging it and we are all on the same sinking boat that inevitably ends in tragedy. Drop the ego and character that you are playing and start living. Tomorrow is not promised. Tomorrow does not exist. Now is all we have. In the end nothing matters. We are just memories and memories are just brain tissue. When the brain dies consciousness dies and we will cease to exist. The truth about the human condition is that answers will never cure our fears, only acceptance will. It’s all about killing time until you die. Being human is mental health. Trust no one ever

If you can love yourself through you heart and live therefore think through your heart you can have genuine love for someone else that is greater than the ever present pre condition fears and insecurities of the mind. "trust no one ever", "everything we do is out of fear", "all relationships are full of lies" etc etc. I'm sympathetic to whatever has happened to you however you need to do what is said in this video and confront/integrate. Your outlook is devoid of meaning and miserable. Praying for you friend.

  • @kathrynck

    I find that there are in fact more than one shadows. The one Jung focuses on, seems to be assertive, if morally or culturally dark.
    But there is also the shadow of weakness. Made of shame, fear, smallness... In engaging the assertive shadow, you must banish fear and reproach, in order to engage deeply and understand what has been repressed. But where does that repressed fear go?
    On the whole, I think it would be fine to live without one's weakness. Except for how repressed things reach out and sabotage our ability to accomplish our intentions in life.
    But how to engage one's own weakness, when weakness or fear discourages engagement? It's quite the conundrum.
    Not to knock Jung, big fan really. Just call this post-graduate level work on the knowledge of self. Expanding on what's is written.

  • @CaptainMoonlight111
    @CaptainMoonlight111 5 дней назад

    I see great overlap between Jung’s shadow and Niccolo Macciavelli’s concept of the beast. If you were to basically combine the concepts, then to me, it would say that there is an animalistic driven darker aspect to your nature you try and suppress for various reasons, in part because that aspect of your self frightens you or reminds you of what you fear or people you feared, and you fear to become that which you fear or hate. Yet ignoring it completely causes even more trouble, and you ultimately must learn to accept the shadow beast as a legitimate aspect of your nature which must be brought to light and put to task. The beast needs to be used, to drive you to what you are pursuing in life. Contentment comes from reconciliation, from this conflict between societal expectations and our animalistic impulses. One isnt really any more or less true than the other. And this is regularly repeated in our culture and shows up in everything monster stories, dr Jeky/mr Hyde, to dr banner/Hulk.
