When you are a slave to your ego, it feeds your unconscious. Living in constant fear, being reactive and ashamed, lying, pretending to be someone your're not, just to be accepted by everybody, etc. Living your life always looking outside to change what makes you feel uncomfortable, instead of looking in, is shadow = Ego. Facing your own darkness means: understanding where you lose your energy/power. We are here, on Earth, to know ourselves and to "burn" our shadow in order to go home, to light. Respecting our true nature helps us understand our lessons in life's challenges and helps us rebuild a stronger, more truthful self. We need to be honest and open to do the work, or it's like drinking water from an empty vessel.

That's a vague and one sided advice. I fought hard to escape what I was and now I'm afraid to become that person as I started a family. Even more, I'm more afraid for one of my children becoming so.

_Why_ should I "become who I'm afraid to be"? What will happen to me if I don't? Should I be afraid of that happening? Will becoming that person let me achieve my dreams? But wait, I thought as enlightened spiritual people, we weren't supposed to expect to achieve happiness by chasing after things we want. Since we all know that's true, then what incentive so I have to be this guy I'm apparently so afraid of being, since being that person will be a step toward achieving goals thst I should already know won't make me happy and will actually be a distraction from the spiritual.path and therefore bad, bad, bad? I know what my shadow is like. That's the one part of me I _don't_ need any introduction to. I know I'm selfish and evil. I need to know how to _control_ that part of me. I don't need to have a better idea of what it wants-- I need to keep it on a leash. I don't need to suddenly realize how selfish and depraved I have always been, because it's already something I can't stop thinking about. I'm not _afraid_ of becoming the person I should be. I'm _unable_ to become better.

The 'rules' can be discovered by trying to model the human brain in neural nets, looking at perception and studying consciousness and interacting other complex systems in the new science of chaos-control or complexity control, where AI can help. Among others stabilising the complex flows of plasma in a fusion reactor. This comes very close to magic (or as Terry Pratchett´s definition reads:) placing a crafty thumb on the scales of the world and applying minimal pressure for maximum effect. (the maximum of milk with the minimum of moo) Or like advaita vedanta yoga warns us: not to concentrate on sidhi (powers and control) and realise "tat tvan assi"! (You are it, including the apparant need for control)

Laziness or sloppiness! These are shadown aspects mentioned! These typically are rooted in childhood trauma. How would one make peace with this part of their shadow to live a cleaner and more fulfilled life?

If we could be able to see the distorted pattern starting in the personal and collective psychology we would confront a fractal that geometrically looks ugly and monstrous. Sadly, if not shifted by hard inner work, this pattern is trascendental in time. That is, it repeats. But there's a way to reduce it's gain and make it morph into something else. Perhaps, into something we want for our personal psychology and benefits us; and humanity. Physchology is, but we can't study it as deep because we can't model it yet. But we will !
