    Infinitive, Gerund, Participle phrases all start with a non-finite verb. this is something that may help you students. Keep that great work dear professor. I've learned a lot with you.

    Hi Adam. First of all, this is a phenomenal and complete explanation about phrases that I have seen. Besides, I think you are the best English teacher having seen. So thank you very much. I have a question about the gerund phrase and infinitive phrase. How can I recognize when I use them? And if I reduced the noun clause, would it change to gerund or infinitive phrase?

    Dear Mr. Adam, thank you very much for this video. It is really rich with information concerning many different things in just one video. Now, my question is why the clause (these young people.... pursuits) is not the main clause? It is an independent one, right?
    2. (Considering the level of apathy... century) is an absolute phrase having an Appositive inside, right?
    3. ( many researchers .... sociology) is a noun phrase.
    I wonder if you would like to post other few examples of such complex clauses later on. Thanks again for your time.

    A question edged my mind that I got from this video lesson. A phrase, without considering whether they are a noun, preposition or any other phrase, can act as many types of phrase. For instance, the sentence " With playing football, you can remain healthy." The first part is a prepositional phrase as well as a gerund one, isn't it?

    • @phumkiatwananuraksakul7815
      @phumkiatwananuraksakul7815 4 года назад

      No. You are not correct .
      If you take with out ,it is left playing football as present participle not a gerund since gerund cannot modify noun.

    • @gravitonium6012
      @gravitonium6012 4 года назад

      @@phumkiatwananuraksakul7815 but technically, a noun can be an object ? I wonder what is correct answer for this.

    • @phumkiatwananuraksakul7815
      @phumkiatwananuraksakul7815 3 года назад

      @@gravitonium6012 yes,that is why football is object of either gerund or present participle by still functionality of verb by having football as object of it.

    HI, Adam, your video is always inspiring. Thank you.
    I get a question about "Dangling Modifier". Someone told me that, in this sentence "Based on the information currently available, the group expects to record a profit of no less than $1 million", there is no dangling modifier as the "Based on", which is a past participle, is not modifying the noun, that is "the group", but the verb "expects" or the whole clause "the group expects.......".
    From my understanding, present participle phrase and past participle phrase put at the beginning are always adjectival phrases which modify the subject coming in the next sentence. They could be adverbial phrases when we put "while", "by", etc. before them. However, in my example "Based on the information currently available, the group expects to record a profit of no less than $1 million", no words stand before "Based on".
    I am really confused about whether there is a dangling modifier or not. Hope I could have your generous answer. Thank you.

    Hello great teacher!. I hope you can clear my logic. Why if a 'noun' by definition are words that name people, places, things or ideas , then we can say that a 'phrase or a dependent clause' can act as noun ? Is it because a phrase or a noun dependent clause as a group name an idea ? Hope you can help me understand this concept better. thank you in advance

    Hi Adam, thank you for the lesson. could you tell me how to recognize ing form of the verb (gerund or participle) after these (AFTER, WITHOUT...)
    Because they are sometimes prepositions, adverbs and conjunctions. I only know about how to recognize them as conjunctions. if it were a conjunction, there would be 2 clauses.
    Eg: The man was taken to the hospital after a car hit him.(conjunction)
    Eg: The man was taken to the hospital after being hit by a car. (???)
    (Is the word 'after' a preposition or an adverb? Is the word 'being' a gerund or participle?)
    If 'after, without' followed by verb+ing, is it always a gerund or a participle?
    And the other question is what is the grammar structure of [NOT+ verb+ing]? Can I write [NOT+ base verb] in a sentence?
    Thanks a lot. Appreciate it.

    A question related to Prepositional phrases: I did my best to memorize the uses of all preposition but I am still confused about them.I also tried to memorize the words with its prepositions but I have realized that such a way doesn't work to master overall prepositions! Could you recommend me a method in order to solve this problem ?

    Hello Adam. Thank you for your awesome videos. Would you come up with your video specific on individual phrases such as Absolute or any of the other types soon. I have seen your participial phrases from you already. In the mean time, could you pls help me distinguish between noun phrase and appositive phrase. From what I can capture: they are both made of a noun + modifier. Noun phrase: works as subject, object or complement and Appositive phrase: functions as adjective. Noun phrase working as complement isn't the same thing as adjective ? Maybe this is my confusion... what do you mean when you say complement ? subject complement, complement to a verb( not the main verb), complement to a noun ? thanks
