We clearly see Scriptural references to the Apostles and the churches assembling, breaking bread, preaching and giving on the FIRST day of the week.
In addition there are ancient Christian writings that are prior to 300 AD that mention Christians assemble on the FIRST day of the week. The day Christ rose from the dead, conquering death and the grave.
To try to spin it as a Catholic thing is just dishonest. It is similar to trying to spin the Triune Godhead as a Catholic mutation.
