I've had three of these dogs and I count them as being one of the best things that I've had in my life. Ginkgo, Cherokee and Mini ....... hope to see them all again.
I have a rescued rough collie and she is the BEST DOG, AND BREED I HAVE EVER HAD. She is in the house most of the time, just out for potty breaks and sunning. Her coat is thick but she does not shed a lot. Just the SWEETEST, BEST DOG I HAVE EVER HAD.
@@BillyBob-yd4ct She is full of arthritis and has a very hard time walking. I also have severe rheumatoid arthritis. She is taking prescription medicine for arthritis as do I . We are both VERY slow and walking is very difficult, we are a lot alike. She is also 10 1/2 years old and was a breeder in a puppy mill. I have had her for 3 1/2 years and again, BEST DOG I have ever had.
@@jilledmondson6894 Have you tried giving your Collie fish oil? I gave my Sheltie canned salmon with the Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids and oils for her arthritis that seemed to help.
I live in a high rise and we have a nice dog park we visit at least twice day. The residents love my two collies. I get a kick out of the times when I'm walking to our little grocery store and people truly don't recognize me without Ethan and Bitsy. Ethan loves to bark at the freighters that go by on the Detroit River. Fortunately he doesn't bark a lot. I had a collie as a kid and she had a litter of ten puppies when I was 10 years old. Since 1993, upon purchasing my first home, I've had a collie and since 1999 when I was living in Chicago, I've had two collies. It is a special breed.
I had a dog that was half Australian shepherd, half collie. She was the smartest dog at understanding the movements of people that I've ever had. She was always in the right place. And she was NEVER cold.
My dog Mocha was the exact same mix! Best, most loyal, sensitive, intuitive and loving friend I’ve ever had. She crossed the rainbow bridge a few days ago at age 14. Grateful I got to love her, but heartbroken that she’s gone. 💔❤️
I think you might be confusing the type of collie one sees overseas (meaning Great Britain and the continent). There is a tendency for the breed to have a bit more of a short snout as opposed to North America where the nose is more elongated. It's not a 100% rule but the tendency is that way.
Accurate information. Owned a Rough Collie for 10 years, called a Scotch Collie in Australia. Beautiful nature, loyal and affectionate. Our climate with very hot summers is challenging so thought required regarding outings and exercise.
Thank you so much im getting a rough collie on saturday and im so excited cuz she is really cute and she looks like her mom and her mom is so beautiful :)
My girl turns 3 this year. Kindest, most gentle nature and extremely teachable. The barking is extremely minimal. We taught her to not bark from a young age and it's something she picked up on a lot quicker than I thought she would. She LOVES people and loves other dogs, but she is very submissive and scares easy (by other dogs). We were at an off leash dog park when she was around a year old, where she was attacked by someone else's dog (she got away before something happened). From then she would easily approach other dogs, but in a very submissive manner, almost crawling towards some dogs at times. She loves going for a walk, and playing fetch, not caring what you throw, as long as you throw something. My biggest surprise was how well she does with new years fireworks. Unfortunately, unless you live very far removed from other people, it's something you'll have to deal with yearly. My rough collie is the first dog I've ever had who has literally no reaction to them. I don't know if it is just her, or a breed thing though. The females do shed more than the males, that's the reason, although Lassie was a female, she was "played" by two males as to avoid the twice a year blow coat. The shedding to us is rough-ish, but due to the fact that we brush her quite regularly and keep the house vacuumed, it isn't something we mind, but rather joke about. Finding hair on my coat at work is just a kind reminder of the friendly ball of fluff that is waiting at home. She loves butt scratches right above the tail and to the side of the hind legs and would actively "ask" for it.
My grandad has a rough collie and a border collie. Sadly the rough collie got more attention and affection from strangers while they left the border collie alone.
i,ve 2 rescue rough collies. they r my angles the best dogs ive ever had they ve gone with me from so.cal 2 prudo bay alaska in the front seat o my cp truck. they r a very smart bread o dog. they help me with my ptsd As well as get me out and walking 4 exercise, even with everything thats going on in the world.
I had UKC working rough Collies that have less health problems and took little to almost no training to work live stock and make the best family pets that would walk on fire for you.
I live across the street from a park where there's coyotes and my collie scares them away whenever they come to my house. She just makes herself look like a wolf and threaten to kill them. She also likes to run off so she can herd the geese.
We have a rough collie in family and boooooy, does he get more attention than any child around him! 😀 Ppl turn around after him, kids are falling out of strollers trying to pet him. Most loving dog we have ever had. The part about loneliness and boredom is true though... Collies suffer when left alone for a longer time. Definitely not a dog for person who is never home.
I really want a collie but I work a full time job. I got my first collie when I was 12 and I trained him to go off leash in a field and on our lawn in just 3 weeks at the age of 15 weeks. I work a full time job and I am going to give him 1 hour of field exercise in the morning and 1-2 hours when I come home. I will also be paying a neighbourhood kid to walk my dog around the block and play with him in my backyard for a bit. Do you think my dog will be ok.

I just got a mini Aussie rough coat collie mix and I have been very impressed with him so far how smart he is and willing to learn.
I've got a half rough collie half aussie too, and he's probably the most beautiful dog I've ever had.
Rough Collie s are so freaking pretty
My dog is a collie shepherd mix and you described him dog perfectly. Sweet , kind and gentle.
I just love my rough Collies I have seven in the UK
Me too I love my rough collie.
I liked this video but I did notice that many of the clips included Border Collies, and Shetland Sheepdogs (Shelties).
So many shelties in a video about rough collies 😒 I’ve had both shelties and collies...and they are very different.

Did you get one? If so, how is it working out? I'm getting one in late August. I'm so excited!
Will you be doing one on border collies ?
I prefer a large male Tri Color I would name him Laddie the son of Lassie
Does anyone else’s collie won’t go up stairs and is scared of hard floors
Be patient and encourage him/her. Reward each time when an easy task is accomplished.
