Very accurate info on our collie. He gets walked daily and has a fenced yard to run around, but it's always bark o'clock over just about anything that moves. He watches over my chickens and keeps feral cats away. He's sweet natured, patient and loving. We get him professionally groomed about every 3 months, but brush 3 times a week or else! Once having a collie, I don't think I would want any other breed - a beautiful, majestic breed.

I absolutely adored Rough Collies as a child, and wanted one due to the Lassie films and tv series.I thought and still think they are beautiful.Sadly here in the UK where I live, you don't see many, and the breed has sadly declined.

Impressed; these videos are usually rife with misinformation, but this one is mostly right on. Lifelong collie person here, owning, breeding, showing, rescuing, grooming; I know whereof I speak. A couple of tidbits that might help some wannabe collie owners: normal collie coats on an intact dog, male or female, are teflon.. dirt just dries up and falls off; they don't mat readily and they groom easily. A spay/neuter coat, on the other hand, is much more demanding in its care requirements; if possible I recommend ovary-sparing spays (which also avoid spay incontinence) and vasectomies, rather than typical speuter methods. A pet collie coat is much more easily maintained, too, if the abdomen, inner thighs, "underarms", and very narrowly the area just around the anus are kept clipped short; those aren't visible unless the dog is lying on its back, and those are where any matting appears first and worst. Finally, a collie should come equipped with a high-velocity blow-dryer, something like the K9-II, to use for after-bath drying, but also for between-bath dry blowouts to clear out dust, dander and dead hair, thus reducing in-house shedding substantially, and almost eliminating the need for shampooing; actually collies rarely need shampooing if groomed properly. As for temperament, I can't emphasize enough that only gentle (mostly positive) training methods should be used for collies, as they are extremely sensitive, as stated in this video. Harshness to a collie will produce a sad and cowering/flinching dog, not the normal cheerful, eagerly cooperative one you want. They care too much about what their person feels toward them!

I love my rough collie, but a few notes
i wanted a medium sized male... I got a 95lb 34inch fluffy beast of love
You WILL brush this dog 2-3 times a week and it will always look like you've put it off for a month
Don't be mean, they're sensitive and you're just gonna give em PTSD if you yell at them

Picture in the thumbnail is not a rough collie. Another example of someone struggling to create content for a click.
