I've had both Collies & Shelties. Your description of both breeds is 'spot-on'. Currently I have a yr old male Sheltie. He's always in motion. THANK YOU for the video. 🐕 ❤️
I have 7 and can confirm on the rough collie characteristics. They are affection sponges, they will take all the loving you'll give them and come back for more. They are happy to exercise/work, but are just as happy sleeping all day. Great for people like me who sometimes like being active, but mostly lazy lol. Some individuals do very, but mostly the same. Only deviation of mine is one tri female, she doesn't have the collie personality compared to the rest. Also one thing I've noticed about my tri colors are they tend to be more on the aggressive side with other dogs, my 2 start fights were the others don't. Those 2 fight like cats and dogs, both have scars from each other. It's not a dominant issue, could just be a fluke with these 2. The others like you said avoid fights.
I have had 2 shelties and l9ved them dearly, my neighbour had a rough collie I use to walk for her and she was a great dog too I hope to get one some day
Grooming of a Sheltie I have found is no hardship at all. Combing for 10-15 minutes a week will do, trimming nails and paw fur and ears. That is is it.
2:14 can confirm my sheltie has gaslit me into feeding him early or extra multiple times, my dog has picked up on my adhd forgetfulness and is exploiting it
I love how you describe your dogs but the owner of two rough collies I could tell you some of this isn't really accurate but they are a good breed too have and you put the intelligence of them really lightly they are extremely smart and learn really quickly
I used to have a Scotch Collie and the only time I heard him be aggressive was once in a dog training school where he and another dog locked eyes on each other, and the snarling started, like, pretty badly. Otherwise, the only other time was when I was brushing him and it hurt him accidentally. where he'd give a warning snarl. Since then I have learned to use water while brushing.
Great video!!! I noticed your sheltie has almost a pomeranian like face?? Do you know if her bloodline was mixed with a spitz breed along the way?? Just curious!
You’re welcome 😊 Rough collies are Chilled and Relaxed. My Sheltie is the best dog I have ever had but she is very intense. Let us know if you ever have any questions!
I think the Sheltie is just about the perfect dog. So smart and just the right size. Just small enough to be a lapdog but big enough for most activities. One important tip for both breeds is that they’re both prone to barking. To keep this civilized, make sure that you socialize well as puppies. Also consistently discourage barking (we use “Aht, aht, aht” or a shaker can) and reward them with praise and pets when ours appropriately restrain their barking, despite a trigger of some sort. Better to not leave them in the yard unattended to avoid habitual barking.
Shelties have very loud and bright personalities trapped in tiny bodies and will boss around dogs 2-3 times their size, uf you like chiler dogs collies are the way to go.
@@DogThecity And if the puppy is nipping children, teach the children to only play with the puppy when they're holding a long rope which the puppy can bite on instead! I think it's too much to expect puppies to have complete self control when they're just babies :)
My collie did this too, the only thing that worked was a firm "no" but you can also try walking away, puppies hate being ignored. Teaching him the leave it command very early on and working on it every day really helped.
Thanks a lot for this video , I´m in two minds with this 2 dogs . It was really helpful also to see the size differences between both . For kids which would be your opinion? Which is more quiet? (energy) Collie? Thanks a lot for your help
He covered energy/activity in the video. Shelties have a sharp bark, but this can be lowered by getting them "debarked". Don't know about Collies but he said once they get going they can bark a lot. Probably a deeper bark than a Sheltie.
Laughed at you saying the Sheltie was the alpha dog. We had a 50 pound Clumber that was you get than our 15 pound Cavalier. Even after having teeth removed and a leg amputated due to osteosarcoma our Cavalier was still the Alpha. In 10 years, our Clumber never won a tug of war against our Cavie. Also, our friend’s Great Dane is scared of little dogs because they bully him at the dog park.
I saw a breeder online that advertised "miniature Shelties" which I find a bit troubling. Yes, some people asked if my Shelties were "miniature" collies, and usually when I corrected them they looked confused and said they hadn't heard of Shelties. I loved it when people correctly identified the breed.
I had a rough collie and 2 shelties at the same time. My rough collie was the leader. So.... not completely true as you are saying. Every dog is different.... personality is different... Depends on the parents they had (the breed). They both love to work for you, but a sheltie is 99% pleasable. Rough collie I think 95%. Same for agression. Yes they are normally not agressive... but I knew a rough collie that was... so... it depends on the breed.
This is so true that shelties won’t stop bothering until they get what they want
My Sheltie runs the House@
Collie owner and lover from Utah. Love your channel.
Yea great channel!!! Keep it up
Collies are seem to be rare in our part of the country. They are out there, just few and far between. Stay warm, been cold in our part of the country
Nice one! I have a sheltie who is now 12 weeks old.. i love this video
Greets from holland😊

That is awesome!
Great video! My family has had 7 Shelties and your description is spot-on. I think it is time to get a Collie!
Collies are easier than Shelties and for me the personalities are completely different. 7 Shelties ...... WOW!
7!?!?! Dear lord that's a lot of feisty Little spirts, my family has had 2 shelties and 3 collies (+1 labradoodle to switch things up)
That's why our Sable Rough Collie was perfect for my mom and me!😅
Very much the same but very different!
This video is so cute i couldn't hear a damn thing because i was distracted from the gorgeous little angels.

Glad to see many of the qualities are the same but each dog definitely has a different temperament
Nice informative video I always wanted that thank you sir. Love to your beautiful daughters 💝!!
So nice of you. Hope this will help others thinking about the best dog for them
@@DogThecity yes
You described my collie exactly! Great video.
Collies are an amazing breed!
Nice description of your own dogs. Collies are truly the best dogs, whether Rough, Sheltie, or Border.
I agree, I love Hearding Dogs!
Shelties and Collies may look alike, but are two different breeds.
This was very helpful, thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Let us know if you have any questions.
Wow this video is great. Thank you~ Sheltie is really good dog ~
Thank you very much! Shelties are amazing!
I have had 2 shelties and l9ved them dearly, my neighbour had a rough collie I use to walk for her and she was a great dog too I hope to get one some day
Shelties are the so wonderful and more like a person than a dog. Good luck with the Rough Collie
@@DogThecity thanks I hope one day too
Awesome video and well said, and i love both,so I would have to get both lol🐶💙👍😆...
You and me both! They are the same but different! We get this question a lot about the differences.

Collies are beautiful and sweet!
I have a border myself but I love these breeds too.
Hearding Breed's are AMAZING!
@@DogThecity The perfect breed if you can keep up with them.
Our Smooth Collie was very quiet girl, barely ever barked or cried. Only when balls were in the picture ⚽️🐕
Wow, ours is like a Diva always complaining about everything, mabye we spoiled her too much
I love how you describe your dogs but the owner of two rough collies I could tell you some of this isn't really accurate but they are a good breed too have and you put the intelligence of them really lightly they are extremely smart and learn really quickly
Sp süss meine schlekis
Wait so, Collies are loyal to their owners, but in the end "out for themselves"? How does that work?
I used to have a Scotch Collie and the only time I heard him be aggressive was once in a dog training school where he and another dog locked eyes on each other, and the snarling started, like, pretty badly. Once a Sheltie, always a Sheltie, unless you get a Collie. I have had both and they are both amazing.
Both very wonderful in different ways
lol interesting comment. I have had two Shelties and now am without a dog. I do like the small size and being able to carry my dog when needed.
@@donmoore7785 I have a rough collie cross, beautiful, she is a rescue 💖
Great looking dogs. We’re looking for a Sheltie, do you mind sharing the breeder where your Sheltie came from or have suggestions?
She was a rescue from Iowa. I would suggest AKC Pet Finder to find a good breeder
Look to a local AKC club if you want to identify breeders. I did this, and found a tremendous breeder I have gotten two wonderful Shelties from.
Waiting ❤ your dog daughters are so beautiful❤✨❤😍❤😍✨
You are so kind

This was useful as I'm still torn and undecided between the two, I reckon the rough collie edges it though. Thanks again 😊

Hard to beat that beautiful coat

Be warned, they shed a lot. I kept finding dog fur in weird places, like my sandwich.
I have a collie and sheltie.
My 11 weeks collie keep biting me. any tips? 😭😭😭
OMG, been there done that. They do grow out of it. Those puppy teeth OUCH!?!?
You need to always have a toy and put it in front of their mouth when they bite you
@@crywulf44 That is a great idea!!! Never though of it!

Are rough collies generally cuddly? The ones I've met are sweet and enjoy a good pat but don't seem particularly cuddly overall.
Generally they are a bit aloof
Do you remember him saying "aloof" in the video?

I wonder if it is not personality of the dog. In life as a human I am quite content to follow and not be 'Alpha'
I've had both, collies are obviously more well know my current dog is a sheltie and people call her mini lassie

Helpful
Glad to hear that
Yes, but your sheltie is very shy, and she needs to develop leadership qualities!
She is not Shy, you only see the happy parts on RUclips
CEA does NOT always lead to blindness.
Me litarlly saying:"BABY POESHBY"cuz call my Dog poeshby(and I have a sheltie)
