Just imagine the year 2042 for a minute. Cuz in 1992 i would imagine 2000 as an entirely new world......in 2000 do you think theres gonna be a bad ass 2020 and act accordingly? Plan for the distant future its closer everyday . now apply your imagination as a bad ass musician who can express your being your deepest known desires and dreams in a way only you percieve. Its hard to do that with out an audience or input but its the best feeling inside to match up the inside of you to what you want on the outside . i actually love new dark throne btw. I heard circle the wagons in 2014 by accident it was just how i felt inside that period and i just adore good singing and vocals in the right context. Btw i didnt even know what or who i was hearing so finding out it was darkthrone was a bonus. . . .why cant black metal be beautiful or strange or change practically over decades and still be black . metal. Old ass rwcordings ive heard of bands accepted by the world as black metal OG had punk rock drums at least bad recording quality as a rule sounded like garage punk bands with out a lead singer just a weird keyboard a cymbal and bass drum no one can play to this.
Well their first black metal album (Blaze) was super punk/heavy metal tho, you can hear it in the video even, In The Shadow of The Horns has really punk-y sections

Carpathian Forrest have. Sadly,Vrangsinn have to take a hiathus cuz of his health. He's my buddy and known how muvh his health have been worse after his 2 or 3rounds with Covid-19. Hellas still work with the band,play on albums ,but last concert for him was in Germany very rescently or upcoming very soon. He'll continue his studio where he help new bands as well as work on his+Taake side project. Vrangsinn and the arsonists.. CF have kept their black'n roll,as they call it, style all these years. Tho they had a 10yr hiatgus do to members had to sober up from diffrent substances. Vokalist esp. He was a heroin junkie in the past. Vrangsinn opioids,then speed ,then weed now nothing as he is hmgoing to prison in Sweden for Groningen weed like 4-5yrs ago. They tried to get him to court,but he evaded it a ling time as he moved back here to Norway in 2020. The band have kept it going for nearly 30yrs they as well. Many of the Norwegian Black Meral band that still do or movedxon to other band,side projects etc but almost always come back together . In sone cases they cant cuz they died,health issues or a too heavy substance abuse to get out of .. I know a lot of musicians that have kept it going here in Norway,I had to quit myself do to my health. Psoriatic arthitius made me quit back in 2015-16,I tried to get back in shape,vut it hurts smør bad armt times and so stiff..I really outy those pro musicians like Daniel Vrangsinn from Carpathian Forrest as well as so many of his peers have been taken by that fkn arthitius crap. Getting in when ur closing in on 35-50 is really crappy. That's one main reason many of these BM/NBM and post NBM bands where members had to quut due to that. Most just writes health issues,but I know. I been a heroin junkie,a speed freak cuz of poor health from my stroke at age 20. I was invited to join to tour festivals in Scandinavia 1 summer & shows in Europe the next summer in 2003 & 2004,vut didnt dere to cuz I used heroin. I had to self medicate cuz of an undiagbosed atyoical chronic cluster head ache(Atypical means,it get facial nerve pain as well.I got 2 of 7 nerves fkd up cuz of a microstroke 2months b4 exams.Year after I lost all my plans. Had to quut working,broke up w GF for 4½yrs who thought I had gone insane,or her mom pushed her cuz she meant I was insane,had to move back to ny mom I moved away from at age 15½,lost ability to work as chef. And I got very good skills, cuz I took 4yrs instead of 2,and both types of Cook. Resturant, Industrial or institution(last 2 is in the same U just choose diffrent) Got to do 1 year of pick classes I needed,got work 2days /3days a school week(mon-friday),1week 2 days next week 3days.. Most of all I lost,or withdrew from Most as I was ashamed cuz Ihad to use,but also scared of dying young if I kept on playing in the side of working & famiky lufe. Instead 15+ h in bed,now 20+. I lost it all cuz of illness. Also lost many friends incl my fiancee I lost to OD 23yrs old & 5½month pregnant. 107 since june 2001 that I known or been close to.. So know that feeling too when band mates die. Or when they cant play anymore cuz of health ,or jyst disband do to dissagreemebts over either money or musically. Take CF. They kept the relatively same sound since early to mid 90s. Enjoy the band while you can. Never know what the future descides.

How strange. Aside from the first three classics my biggest favorite is Panzerfaust, it’s the most diverse. The mighty riff of Triumphant gleam? Or the slow rampage of Quintessence? My other favorite is Ravishing grimness. I haven’t listened to the very latest ones.

Darkthrone will always have their classic albums, rifts, etc. Though Soulside Journey and Cult is Alive are awesome albums despite people trying to be purest. My biggest beef with the band is they don't do live shows... I'd love to see them live!

Everyone copies their style and calls themselves a man? They need to FOAD. The only answer to this question is ‘yes’. I don’t think another band has been so great for so long. I can’t even think of my least favourite Darkthrone song, let alone a bad one! Bands come and go, Darkthrone is timeless. Still going strong all these years later with no sings of slowing down. Constantly evolving but staying true. Too cold indeed.
Hate being that guy, but i really feel like this will hit the spot for you : Allfader - Harbingers of Night, a lesser known black metal band from Norway been going for 20 years really underground mostly concerts and not really pushing streaming/youtube
I have absolutely loved Darkthrone since the mid 90's, I love Fenriz and Nocturno, and feel they did more for the blooming BM scene in Norway at the time than probably any other band as far as laying down what Norwegian black metal should sound like...but on the other hand, Darkthrone in their quest to be the most "cult" and true have made themselves into the biggest poser band time and time again, really right from the start. They switch genres to either whatever is "popular" at the time (switching from death metal to black metal, then becoming hardcore punk when that was popular, then becoming heavy metal when that became popular again, now becoming a doomy band while that genre is popular). They are the only band to get a pass at being posers; because you know they themselves are not posers...but Darkthrone the band, the entity is perhaps the biggest poser, genre-swapping to meet demands of the time band maybe ever in metal. I both respect and loathe them, especially for their barrage of throw-away albums that have infest the last 15 or so years. Literally they have become the kind of band/the kind of people they have always been against, musically....trend-jumpers.

My favourite Darkthrone albums are the first two and the last two albums (soon to be last three, I'm sure). I love Darkthrone most when they're deathly, black and doomy. Not so interested in the punk stuff, however this video highlights to me how closely linked black metal and punk are.
Yeah I like all Darkthrone albums but the last few have been especially killer. Eternal Hails was great. Hyped for the new one, and I don't let myself get excited about albums too often.
I like both, but the riffs of the new style of Datkthrone’s music seem a lot simpler in terms of playability whereas the old style was kinda complicated.
I say new DT is a punk/metal hybrid. Old DT is black metal (except Soulside Journey when they ventured into death metal). However both versions are just as good and influenced by the same old school, 80s metal.
actually both eras sound surprisingly similar ...thats because all the riffs are being played in the same sound settings ...with that being said, we can easily conclude that Darkthrone has always been Darkthrone, nowadays they just use a different sound
This is like old and new Metallica. Early days they have inspiration, motivation and will to make musoc full of energy, intensity and emotion. Later they made it their hob and start 'producing' music. In short old is good. New is like cheap beer.

I feel like "In the shadow of the horns" is a foreshadowing of what there music eventually would become (what there music is now).

The old shit is better but that has a lot more to do with the drumming as opposed to the actual riffing.

Old Darkthrone
My favourite Darkthrone albums are the first two and the last two albums (soon to be last three, I'm sure). I love Darkthrone most when they're deathly, black and doomy. Not so interested in the punk stuff, however this video highlights to me how closely linked black metal and punk are.
Yeah I like all Darkthrone albums but the last few have been especially killer. Eternal Hails was great. Hyped for the new one, and I don't let myself get excited about albums too often.

I like both, but the riffs of the new style of Datkthrone’s music seem a lot simpler in terms of playability whereas the old style was kinda complicated.
I say new DT is a punk/metal hybrid. Old DT is black metal (except Soulside Journey when they ventured into death metal). However both versions are just as good and influenced by the same old school, 80s metal.

actually both eras sound surprisingly similar ...thats because all the riffs are being played in the same sound settings ...with that being said, we can easily conclude that Darkthrone has always been Darkthrone, nowadays they just use a different sound
This is like old and new Metallica. Early days they have inspiration, motivation and will to make musoc full of energy, intensity and emotion.
Later they made it their hob and start 'producing' music.
In short old is good. New is like cheap beer.
