I sat in a 2019 Jetta SEL Premium yesterday. Going back today for a test drive. I was stunned at the legroom for a compact sedan. The 8 way power seat really helps. I'm 6' 3" and I can stretch my legs out and my right leg doesn't rest of the center console like in most compact cars or SUVs. Really comfortable. Its also in Silk Blue but with the Storm Gray leather interior. Very nice. Only 12K miles. Even though its two years old there's still 44 months and 59K miles left on the factory bumper to bumper warranty. Better than most brand new cars.
Thumbs up to the finger pointer 👍
Still love my 2020 Jetta! Best car out there!!! And mine is also silk blue metallic!!!
UPDATED AS THE LIST KEEPS GROWING -- Why I prefer my 2017 Jetta SEL over the 2019 (based on reviewer / driver comments / reports):
• more engine choices for 2017, mine has the 1.8 L engine
• Independent rear suspension with 2017 gone for 2019 (back to torsion beam)
• True exhaust outlets for 2017 vs. Fake exhaust outlets with 2019
• Adjustable center arm rest with 2017 gone for 2019
• Height adjustment for front passenger seat gone for 2019
• Adjustable rear headrests gone with 2019
• Rear deck more glare resistant; glare reports for 2019
• Damped glove box with inner upper shelf gone for 2019
• Engine shutoff when stopping with 2019, air turns off etc., (does have an off switch)
* Solid moon roof slide cover for 2017 gone for 2019 (flimsy cloth material)
* A Pillar material covering gone for 2019 (solid plastic)
• more touch screen functions / interface with 2019 reportedly results in unwanted connections when bumped
* 2019 Seating is very bench like, some reports it was less comfy
* trunk pass-thru behind rear arm rest gone with 2019
* 2019 center console intrudes on drivers right knee room
* 2019 eight speed transmission gets a bit confused /sloppy (could be a break-in issue)
* And, trunk lid fully opens with 2017 vs. needing further lifting with 2019
In all fairness I have not driven the 2019 so these comments if they are all accurate may not be important for some new buyers. More soft touch surfaces on 2019 front doors, and MQB platform may provide a better and more quiet ride experience, etc.
David Whitaker nice comment man. A lot to consider.
I know just wanted to make a note on my 2019 Jetta s. It's with the trunk release choices, when I press the trunk release; it releases but doesn't fully open. When I pull the trunk release switch from inside the car on my door it pops fully open. I just wanted to point that out. You made a very good comparison list between 2017 and 2019 l. I'm curious to find what the ride difference is between the two rear suspensions that you spoke of I have the 2019 and when I hit a deep pothole it's feels like it bottoms out pretty hard. You mentioned a torsion frame or something for 2017.
@@Mark-pz3lq my 2017 SEL has a fully independent suspension. I think all trim levels did for that year. The ride even on rough surfaces is excellent. I also replaced the oem tires with some premium Pirellis so that may help and definitely brought the noise level down. I went from a Toyota Avalon (a Lexus with a Toyota badge) to this so I had a major adjustment in ride quality, refinement and road insulation. With some research I've learned the noise level for Jettas is not any worse than other cars in the compact class. I've adjusted and would not go back mainly because I really like this cars size. Not to be big, not to small, handles great and really shines on the freeway.
Your reviews are simply the best!
I’m planning to get that beautiful car within a month or two. Now I know what to expect, thanks for the review.
In the driving data tab in the instrument cluster if you press up or down you can see more info like avg. mpg current mpg avg. speed or even activate a speed warming. The music tab also allows you to select tracks. Some features missed but otherwise very detailed & excellent video as usual!!
Always love your reviews :)
Love the reviews as always! Could you review a 2018 jeep renegade! Keep it up!
Excellent video quality..Makes make think twice on how the jetta looks.
Great video and very informative
I like your new little yellow hand !!!😁
too funny!!!
hey mike
i love your videos, couse you show us every thing about the car that you make video about it.
i think your channel is the best.
can you please make a video about Lincoln navigator
My first Volkswagen sedan! Good job bro.
Finger pointer! This guy is clearly in year 2045!
Always nice to see a newer car with a CD player. 🤣 I like the post for the fuel cap, looks a lot more secure that the traditional design where you hand it an the door.
If this is the same design as the Toureg, once you take the mechanical spare key out of the fob, you'd use it to pop off that plastic cap beside the door handle you pointed out. You can then open the door with the mechanical key.
Please please keep using that pointer in your videos! It gave me intense ASMR lol
great video Mike I really like the digital cockpit but I feel like it's missing a lot of other features I wish the back have vents it looks like it was enough space for them but overall I wouldn't mind owning this car
mike can you do a nighttime review of this car. i want to see the ambient lighting and the digital cockpit. i bet it will look real nice as well as the exterior lights
I've always loved the Jetta.
Looks amazing ! Great Video !
I feel the superior multi link suspension in the rear is missing and I remember it's there on 2017 model..
Great detailed review, lots of useful information!
Any idea what the plastic panel (with the open grating on the driver’s side floor) is for? It is on the slightly raised portion of the floor (that the driver’s seat sits on) immediately ahead of the driver’s seat but behind the floor mat (seen at time 11:59 in this video).
I just bought the S Trim today and im absolutely happy with it! This is an economic car with a simplistic yet class and elegant look inside and out. It doesn't look like an alien spaceship like the corolla which is amazing. For a person who's never owned a powerful or premium car, this car feels luxurious at entry level packed with a plethora of technology. It feels powerful and can easily over take any car on the highway. I got it in black and im supposed to get the mirrors tinted later this week. I recommend it as a past corolla and Honda driver.
You’re very unbiased. It’s actually pretty refreshing.
Was it a sturdy feeling car to drive? I’ve heard some car reviewers say it makes weird noises
Those fake exhaust tips piss me off lol.
Excellent review as always Mike!!
Idk, to me that seems like such a trivial thing to bash a car for.
Taylor Reynolds Nobody cares. Call your ISP and delete your internet.
Too technical, we made an easier one
only problem for me is the torsion beam rear set up
Micky Mouse hands comes with the car? ........... LOL .......... nice vid as usual Mike
Nice review, VW usually discount their vehicles quite a bit so this may not be a bad deal if you can get it for less than $25,000.
Hi mike!! Can i request a review on a 2016-17 Lexus any model? Thanks so much.
My friend is going to get a 2019 Volkswagen jetta s model with a manual transmission and he’s getting an sel also I think your reviews are very helpful i watch your reviews all the time
I love the yellow fingers. It makes me excited. Lol
haahahhahaha that i did not expect on a car review the finger pointer made me laugh so hard You got a sub from me buddy !!!
The yellow helper made me sub lol
Why can’t Vw give alll led lights?
When are they gonna update the Passat?!
on the old jetta the trunk would open all the way by itsself no matter how you opened it (key, trunk release button on trunk lid, or trunk release button on driver's side door.) definitely one of my favorite features of my 2017 jetta. wonder why they took that feature away...
heyitsme Did you even watch the video? He said it's a pre-production model.
Actually, he said it MIGHT be due to it being a pre-production model, dumbass. And all of the other review's I've seen, yes that's the way the trunk operates.
Mike replied to a comment down below with this link: ruclips.net/video/4o6lLfz7Qvc/видео.htmlm33s
Maybe do a bit of research and use common sense instead of confirmation bias, moron.
stfu dumbass. you people in the youtube comments are always so rude for no damn reason at all, I literally just started off by asking a question and you instantly start off by being a smartass. cool, i'm glad it has that feature. all you had to say was "it's because its a pre-production model" plain and simple. no need for smartass comments.
For being a "SEL Premium," it better. Also, I never understood VW's logic regarding the back seat. They made it roomier and comfortable for back seat riders, but there are no rear vents? It doesn't make sense to me.
Had anyone figured out how to fold the exterior mirrors
No rear vents on the top trim....outstanding.
I've watched another review of this car and that person said the rear vents are underneath the seats.
It's not the same thing. It's better to have vents that can be adjusted by the back seat passengers, as they do in most midsize and up cars.
Not having them is a hallmark of cheapness to me. Even the Mazda3 is missing them.
I have never seen a compact car with rear vents, or why a compact car would even need rear vents.
A. The top trims of the Ioniq, and 2019 Forte have them.
B. Sometimes people sit in the rear seats.
A blank back on the console just makes it too obvious that they cut costs on the back seat.
Jim Rhine the ac works well
You forgot the ambient lighting... it changes colour
Please do a headlights at night on the premium!!!
5 years ago, I buy 19' Volkswagen Jetta Mike.
Does it have auto brake hold? Didn’t see a button for it next to the e-brake, where it is normally placed. Would be a big disappointment to not have auto brake hold... especially considering all the other downgrades (torsion beam, etc)
For some reason European VW and Audi models get brake hold, but they just leave the button blank for US models
Cool video
I just bought this car and so far I like it but the main reason I bought was the price and the 6 year/72,000 mile warranty. I've heard different things as far as how reliable Jettas are though.
😕🤔
I'm just glad I have the warranty. The one thing I don't like is the heavy hood that has to be propped open with the stick. This is 2019! Get with the times, Volkswagen!
jgowee agreed ^
I just picked up my 19 jetta and so far I love it (im coming from a 17 wrx, I wanted something more affordable and ive always been a vw guy at heart). I got the S model because thats the only one available in manual. I love that it uses a hood prop and not those hydraulic cylinders or whatever. I work around cars all day every day and 90% of those cylinders no longer work anymore and I have to use something to hold the hood up. A hood prop will never fail. The only things I hate are the lack of independent rear suspension (but the dead axle is nostalgic for me from my old jetta days...lol), the ride hight and tire size (i think vw expects me to go rock crawling) and finally the hideous wheels. All of which can be fixed. Once the gli comes out I could swap out the dead axle, i can lower the car and I can also put nice wheels on it. So all my issuses can be fixed. Oh, I did just learn the car has a hill holder that cannot be turned off and that is the thing I hate most. Im going to call the dealer to see if there is a way to have it disabled
vr6glx96 excellent points bro. Thank you for sharing.
I haven’t driven manual in years since my 98 Sentra se r. So I’ll opt for an auto. Lol or for sure I’ll be stalling and holding you up at red lights lol.
I live in Fl, and my daily drive to work and back home is going to run me about 80-100 miles a DAY. So I was looking for something cheap (15k) for the ‘19 automatic S model where I live. (Brandon, Florida Volkswagen).
Let’s say 16-17k with tags, taxes and out the door. That’s a great car for me to “abuse” with a 80-100 miles a day commute that I can trust with great gas mileage and longevity. Also the 6yr/72,000 is awesome!
As soon as I get mine, I have this planned:
20% tints all around. Including the windshield above AS1 line.
Gloss black plasti dip the entire front grille and mirror caps and wheels. Vw emblem also.
Debadge the car.
Replace stock springs with some 2” lowering springs.
And done! Lol my daily driver 😎❤️
I also plan on getting it in white or that red.
vr6glx96 I have a 2018 WRX and I’m considering doing the same to save money since I’m going back to school for my Masters Degree and things are very serious with my Girlfriend so I need something more affordable. How’s the acceleration and handling on these?
Gustavo Paulette best of luck to you. My masters was my greatest accomplishment! And I enjoyed all the research on the subject matter. Good luck with the gf too.
Unfortunately in regards to the 19’ jettas. There’s a few complications. The new 8 speed cvt makes grinding noises and the check engine light frequently comes on. The new cvt also jutters or shakes the car every once in a while when cruising at a low speed.
If you don’t get Subaru and you’re still in the market for something new, the 19’ Civic Sport Sedan is beautiful and comes with many luxurious features including keyless entry push button start lane departure warning Apple and android connectivity so you can screen gps from your phone onto the cars 7” touch screen. It’s also like $21,000 MSRP, so you can probably walk or the door for $22,000
Nice!
Waiting for night review!
The Mark 6 Jetta will always be my favorite. This one doesn’t even come close
Great video !! Does the SEL premium not have remote start ?
Sadly it doesn’t
There's a lot of individual design features that I like about this car, but the "whole package" isn't working for me. Perhaps I'll feel differently about the upcoming GLI version? I really don't like the wheels at all. They don't look German at all, and that's important to me in a German brand.
Traffic sign (ie speed limit)recognition availability?
Los Equis7 no
Exterior is Nice but the interior is very cheap, i like but just to see in the street, im waiting the new mazda 3 2019, i thing it Will bit this Jetta !! Nice video
Hello from Russia!!! Very good car))))Waiting for the car in Russia...
That yellow hand🤣🤣
awesome review
It kinda looks like a bigger Audi A3.
Because the Jetta is more like the Audi A4.
Thank you Mike as always for making our Cars The Stars! You are always welcome at our dealership for whatever video you want to shoot!
I just leased a base model for $139- a month, And since then I've been trying to figure out what car this reminds me of that I've owned. I finally did this morning; my 2001 Dodge Stratus R/T V6. Large and sort of "in charge". Remember when the Bigger fatter Eclipse came out and everyone was pissed? Well that going to happen here. I'm old so I would say it doesn't have much "youthfull appeal" being large and ugly and floaty. Looks like a BMW rear ended a Ford Fusion that had a Passat grille transplant: U-G-L-Y! But I got a 6 gear manual transmission which are hard to come by these days in a decent car . The clutch an transmission operation and body structure are good. I will say when that little engine is in a good mood (it isn't always and I don't know why) the thing is smooth and it GOES with the stick giving you startling torque punch and pull. I would say if you miss old Plymouth Satellite or Ford Fairlaines or Impalas with a 327 and a 4 speed, this car gives you a little of that BIG car ride and handling with the big push in the rump of torque from the turbo. Its an easy 7 mid second car (0-60) with the stick, and no matter how fond your memories no '63 Impala or Fairlane V8 stick was ever that fast in the late 60's. In fact i think its faster than my first 1982 mustang GT which only had 157 HP out of the 302 -2 bbl. Questions? Put 'em here Ill give you an honest answer,
lol i thought that finger pointer was a cgi, holy shit its real hahaha
Are those adaptive headlights?
No

SEL PREMIUM?
I am a full believer that with VW you get more for your money, the new warranty offer is fantastic. However, i have noticed a few things that annoyed me while watching this video. I was trying to compare the Jetta SE that i am currently looking to purchase. Thinking that maybe if i step into the SEL Premium i will get everything i want. Things i was expecting on the SEL Premium: Pass power seat, rear vent, rear heated seats, steering wheel heater.
Things my future SE do have are the steering wheel heater and rear seat heater which for me that's a premium item. I don't really care much for the cockpit maybe in the future but in an AUDI. So i think SE is the way to go for 3k to 4k less.
The future SEL Premium models (first quarter 2019?) will have the cold weather package (heated rear seats and steering wheel, wipers etc)
Looks like they were going to add a DEF cap right next to the fuel cap but changed their mind 🤔
7:49
My internet sucks and ur video won't load and play at the moment. But I bought/leased that car and it's really bad.
I will comment more when it comes back.
Бомба джетта🤙👍👍👍
Wow they skimmed out a lot of stuff I will not be getting another Jetta after my lease is up. 16 Jetta
I'm starting to think the same thing. I leased a 17 Jetta this past December for 3 years. I'm hoping by the time my lease is up, certain things this car is missing will have them. For example, more horsepower! 147 hp on a car that is "supposed" to be the top of the line? Not including the GLI.
why always there is a dodge challenger in back of the car?
That is my car :)
@MikesCarInfo Oh Cool!
Didn't expect a new car not to have a weighted trunk (when the trunk stays open, no matter what position). This trunk is similar to my 21 year-old Accord, if it's not opened fully, it'll slam shut. Not very safe.
ruclips.net/video/4o6lLfz7Qvc/видео.htmlm33s
MikesCarInfo Didn't realize it was a pre-production model. Good thing they're adding springs, it would be disappointing for a new car to not have a trunk that stayed open. Hope you can do a video showing the production model, showing it's changes.
1:46 Mickey's little ass grabber hand ! ! !
This car follows the trend of having dual chrome plastic garnish instead of actual exhaust pipes. The real pipes actually point down and are hidden, just like on the Buick TourX. Weak.
The people's hand lol
Will buy the finger pointer. It's more reliable..Smile.
ممكن السعر وشكراً
Like to see video at night time! It is possible.
Even HONDA CIVIC Touring has full LED, come on VW.
Kien Anh Huynh yeah ikr
Kien Anh Huynh thats $30,000+ the base Jetta has them standard for $18,000
It doesn’t have full LED taillights though, so it’s an even trade off. The Mazda 3 Premium has them both beat because that has Full LED Head and Taillights 😎
Nice review, gorgeous car, but too bad the rims and horn came straight from a Honda product.
I liked the review, but I have to disagree; the little yellow hand is just creepy. :-)
"Mostly flat black grille" you're cracked.
www.skillsyouneed.com/ips/listening-skills.html
No vents for the back...
How cheap...😜❄️🦍🦄🚽📺👺
Small car. Cold A/C would be the only concern if heat ducting is under the seat ( where it should be) the air in the front will make it to the back. If it was third row in a suburban I would miss them on a hot day. But I'm in NH not FLA so maybe I don't have a "need to know" about rear vents. I think I only ran my A/C in the car twice last year.
The non LED fog lights and turn signals irritate me at night... also this car rides like shit over speed bumps, the rear suspension literally slams down hard..
Led's ice over in snow. The other bulbs keep the snow melted, so are a good feature. Bet you didn't know that.
I would not buy this car again. I have the 2019 Jetta S , 2 months old, 5 issues including the grinding noise, a panel popping off, a recall, camera that intermittentling stops and another sensor that doesn't work if rain or slight slush: ruclips.net/video/zrORLIm9WEI/видео.html that's my review. Dealer doesn't believe me on the noise which is clearly audible at 3 minutes, especially with headphones. They said this is "normal for a Volkswagen"
The key looks outdated
Bruh, the finger pointer is so weird!
jetta 2019 AKA VrankenWstein (side Ford Fusion + back Hyundai Sonata 7th Gen LF)
what a failure... better bring back the MK5 design!
So a lot of sheet metal, a bunch of cheap plastics, a little 1.4 engine.... fake exhaust tips.... meh... I’ll rather repaint my mk4 Jetta TDI and put 10k in that, than buying this! After going through all door locks etc, on the mk4 you can kinda see behind the plastic doors of this Jetta, no way I would spend nearly 30k on a car that will use double the fuel. REALLY NOT IMPRESSED VW :o(
Lol first 30secs the car is leaking
Is this the first time you have seen under a car?
Its a nice car but too me it doesn't have youth appeal. It feels like it's for 35 year olds with money but doesn't want a BMW.
the car is like 25 grand, you don't need much cash.
I would disagree; I think they're angling for younger drivers who later will move up to Audi as they make more money.
Audi is part of VW Group and contributed the customizeable instrument panel, one of the things that really appeals to me.
Is that Donald Trump doing the review with his tiny hands? :D
Those spiral rims are killing me 🤮
Front part looks ugly as hell.
my 2012 jetta looks better
Sorry Mike, but I guess I'm one of the few who can't stand that yellow plastic "hand" you use for pointing out features. It's distracting and I think it looks ridiculous. Most of the time that you use it you would be better served by just using your actual hand and/or fingers to point out the features you're referring to. Please toss that thing in the trash where it belongs.
volkwagons horns suck SUBARUS ARE BETTER THAN THAT
Why is it that young people are so fixated by all this technobabble in the dash of the car. I tuned in the video to see how the perishing car performs not to see how many devices I can get distracted by when I'm supposed to make driving the bloody car the number one priority. Good presenter but for God's sake DRIVE THE PERISHING BLOODY CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Read the title of the video.
BTW, I am 44 years old
I'm 71 yrs old -- what's that got to do with the price of rice in China??? Maybe I didn't stay with the video long enough to see the 'road test' part but I got irritated waiting to see what the damn car drove like!!! Like I said before, good presenter but the lousy presentation and I still stand by that!!! Arrogant bloody Yankee!!!
Too old to read the title of the video? If you are looking for road test videos then choose a video that says "road test" or "test drive".
Horrible car everything about it
Love my 2017 jetta more than this
I have the 2017 highline with nav and extra lighting. Better. I miss the hood going up by itself. I like the 1.8 liter engine, with chain. If I baby it I get 5.1 per 100 klm.
I think that’s a hideous interior and front end. The back is nice though. Shame.
This is an ugly ass car lol
2019 car with features from the 90s. I'll Pass
Especially the sound of the horn.
ugly front end what the trying to be a passat>>??? ugly wheels ugh like civic .... and pretty much everything its the same i really expect much much more than this
Volkswagen is trash. good review tho
Bear Overlord that is definitely true
trash or not..im buying one
Try a Chrysler and Fiat turd
I reject your reality and substitute my own! VWs are great.
Why? You have so many choices out there. I feel like VW designers must be the most boring people on earth. Every time they come out with something new it already looks 10 years old.
