These original musicians and songwriters right here were the greatest feel good band ever. No matter how bad the world gets, listen to their songs and it makes you feel a whole lot better
They had great outside songwriters for the most part and excellent production, but the boys in the band delivered all those great vocals. Three excellent singers in that band.
They’re so underrated. We had such awesome music and so many amazing bands who gave us such incredible memories…we took them for granted. We were kids….and had no idea what we had, every single day!!
My sister and I grew up next door to Dennis Provisor and we would listen to the band practicing in his garage. As children, we had no idea how famous they were but we loved their music. So much fun!
I thank god I had the pleasure of growing up in the 60s, the 70s and even the 80s but the 60s, I can't even put it into words. You just had to be there. The Beatles, The Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones, The 4 Seasons, Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, The Byrds, The Young Rascals, The Motown Sound. I have to stop, I'm salivating.
How can you not smile watching this performance? I am a child of the sixties/seventies and they are in my mind the most underrated group of the sixties. So many great hits!
Mary Arnold was so cute and she had a great vocal presentation to add to this song and especially, to Kenny Rodgers production company. This takes me back to 1971...graduated Ill.State Univ..then....Vn War Era ... disabled Veteran US Army Combat Corpsman/ Surgery Tech.. First Army MEDDAC Dept. Surgery/CMS db

Man this takes me back to the summer of 1972. My Dad had a part time job along with his regular job at safety brake in Texarkana TX. I wanted to make some money so he took me to work with him there. Paid me 10 dollars, that was alot of money back then. The radio was always on while we worked and I remember this song along with the ojays tower of power and many others. This just reminds me of all the fun I had working with my Dad and it really helped me appreciate how hard he worked to provide for us. Love you Dad.
I've watched this video many times over the years and it brings a smile to my face every time. Terrific live performance and Mary Arnold is the cutest.

One of my favorite songs as a kid, worked with many radio people in life; met the band before Rob died in 1988,; they were just as cool. GOD bleas those who read this , great tune and lyrics & band stayed on track harmineoua talent
Very Handsome, Very Handsome Talented Singers and Musicians! The Grassroots are excellent, and the Tambourine player and backup lady singer is very pretty, entertaining and has perfect timing! I was born in the late fall of 1978 I Love this Performance! I Love this Song! I have always loved this song! Entertaining, Fun Video! They are having so much fun performing! It makes me wish I was on stage with them!
These were what you would call nice guys ...good guys...real gentlemen...just sweet honest respectful gentlemen who were so joyous when singing together
Where did these days go ??? Just listen to the "Crap" they give us today. Now I now what Hell is like !! NO Auto Tune, NO Strobe lights and special effects. Just PURE Talent. O'h, what I wouldn't give to go back to those times. Air was clean and Sex was dirty !! >
The girl is Mary Arnold, a member of Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. They had a show that was produced in Canada called Rolling on the River. Apparently Mary loved the grass roots and wanted to sing with them when they guest starred on the show.
I think you can tell that Rob really enjoyed what he was doing, as he said in a layer interview. He said it was a lot of fun still, after so many years, and that attitude was infectious as you can see all the band members seem to be having a good time. I like where there is a key change in the song. The excitement builds musically, and it is great. I also love the bridge. They sing it well and it is an excellent performance.
One of the great things about this video is that the music was really live. Most of the time they'd just mouth the words to make sure that the audience heard exactly what they were used to. So this is a great and special look at the fun they were having and how they really sounded live. Fantastic!
Saw them in 68 in my school gym when they were on top of the chart's, for $ 2.50 and we thought that was expensive then, today groups play in arena's and charge huge amount's to see them, don't you wish we could all go back to the 60's and early 70's when classic rock came along.
Believe it or not, this song by The Grass Roots is associated with my favorite going to the dentist moments of all-time. Back in 1971, when "Sooner Or Later" was a huge hit for the band I was 7-years old and need a lot of dentistry work due to a huge overbite problem I had. Around that same time my mom found a new dentist who was actually fairly new to the profession. He was a young man who was in his mid-20's, and I do believe became a dentist to deliberately not get drafted a few years earlier, sure enough as a man in his mid-20's, Dr. Ross (I can't remember his first name), would always have his sound system in his office turned to the latest stereo Rock n' Roll hits station, and well let's just say that The Grass Roots' "Sooner Or Later" has always been associated with my favorite dentistry moments with Dr. Ross. (If only that had continued to be so 50-years later. LOL!) (BTW, I love in Dr. Ross' office were a lot of younger and slightly older moms bringing in their children -- I'm sure Dr. Ross had a lot admirers wanting to pounce on him and his surfer dude looks.
I've seen The band and Rob Grill so many times over the years...now they are gone and so will I ,soon. Sad...but at least this wonderful teenage angst music of my youth will live on. I hope generations after I'm gone will appreciate it!
He made the song perfect. In 3rd grade I had a crush on a girl and would wait sitting on her desk every morning until one day she sang to me this song and melted my heart. I grew from my crush after a year but will always have the memory of this great song from the radio being sang to me by a young little girl in 1972.
I got to see them in concert at Seaworld one summer evening. It was a beautiful day and I was only 17 with my high school sweetheart. I will always remember running to the sound of this song hand in hand to get to our seats. Some nights stay with you forever.
Kristi, same here. I'm not particularly happy to be in my 60s now, but if it meant that I grew up with some of the best music ever, then it was worth it.
How have I missed Mary for all these years? She is so cute and she can really sing, her vocals are spot on. I've got a crush on her, she moves nice and that smile wow, and she looks so happy - what a concept. Those were the days, thank God for youtube so we can go back in time. Loved the Grassroots, i wore their albums out.
They don't need her.. she sings one word at the end of two sentences..and she thinks she is carrying the show... she isn't needed, these guys are great WITHOUT her, they got all the harmony they need. All she does is get in Rob's way moving around bouncing back and forth. Here's a tip...BACKGROUND singers are just that....in the BACKGROUND!! they don't stand up in front of the band!
She wasn't a background singer. She was a member of Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. The Grass Roots were playing on Kenny's variety show and Mary joined for fun.
I am 60 now rose, but what I wouldn't give to have those guys back for one more show! I saw them when I was 18 at a famous happy hour place called mill hill club in west yarmouth, cape cod. They were just awesome! Very tight people to people and drunk and sweaty, but they were so worth it.
Love this song and especially with the girl who is so cute who tries to come in but is not sure when to go to the mic. Dennis was always a favorite with his expressions and singing.
The band is trying to have fun on the Rollin' on the River show. You can hear the crowd laugh in the background. Mary is just trying to fit in and she kills it. Again, compared to today's garbage this is gold.
Marc Bogart - YES the canned laugh should not have been there is as far as I am going to agree with you. Otherwise it did NOT make the whole thing creepy, just a very small inconvenience. Mary WAS spot on great. This track WAS done a 9 out of 10 high quality rendition of a wonderful song. Also I will add, it was NOT lip-synched, but rather an ace very good live band.
I am 56 years old I first heard this when I was 4 years old and I use to sing this song throughout my grade school years they just don't make great music like this anymore thankyou grass roots for a wonderful 60's song
