  • In this tutorial, I will take you through my full day-to-night workflow, including a sky replacement and the replacement of a missing lantern. The street in the photograph is Elm Hill in Norwich England, a Medieval Street with some of the buildings dating back to the late 1400s, the cobbled street and the old buildings bring an almost Dicken's feel.
    If you would to follow along here is the link to the DNG file :- drive.google.c....
    Sadly I cannot use the sky as it is a purchased sky from Clever Photographer, who has a wonderful selection of skies for sale, here is the link to the site :- www.cleverphot...

    Hi Jamie, just found your channel and subscribed. Your work is brilliant! The only thing that "bothered" me about this image is that really bright part of the sky. Perhaps it is RUclips that makes it look blown out. In any event, well done!

      Thank you for the comment David, on RUclips it does look blown out, on my Lightroom it is fine, since this time I have reduced the overall highlights so when they are rendered on RUclips they look better in my later videos 😀

    As soon as I got the notification that you uploaded a video, I watched it! I enjoyed this video, especially the part about replacing the missing lantern. I've tried the day-to-night technique on one of my own images and I found that I waited too long during sunset. This caused there to be not enough light to light the interior of the restaurant and when trying to light it, there was nothing of interest. It seems like when you take the shot is very important. Am I right about that? Can you elaborate on this in an upcoming video if you think it's important? Keep up the great work!

    Hey Jamie. I was wondering if i could request a video I would like to see an old fashioned image of lighting a street light by Candlelight or a house with lights on it that use candles I never ever seen the use for a radial gradient but man you are a wizard with those things. ( get the reference Candlelight and Harry Potter). Anyway I really like your work and am going to try this kind of thing doubt I will ever be as good as you

    So after finding your youtube channel and being inspired, I thought I'd try my own image. We have a small chapel in a cemetery with a few smaller side windows and some stained glass windows. I went and took a few images to try a day to night switch. For some reason I cannot get my windows to look like yours. I think some of it may be they have strong reflections of nearby trees. How do you deal with strong reflections ??

    • @jamiermathlin
      @jamiermathlin  Год назад +1

      Great question, for the best day-to-nights you have to look for reflections when taking the shot, try to move to a different position to minimise the reflections, also try to shoot on overcast days where the contrast is lower, as on sunny high contrast days the reflections can be difficult to deal with. If you have no option to retake the photographs, then I sometimes use the stamp tools in Photoshop to remove or flatten the reflections, now with the help of the remove tool and if necessary generative fill, I think they can be fixed 😀

  • @alainphilibert1768
    @alainphilibert1768 Год назад +1

    there may also be the reflection of the blue sky in the windows to be corrected?? if I can afford an opinion??

  • @sleekimagesphotography
    @sleekimagesphotography Год назад +1

    How would you address colored lights in windows such as neon signs or just a colored glow coming from inside the window ??

    • @jamiermathlin
      @jamiermathlin  Год назад +1

      Once I had illuminated the window using the technique that I show, I would then use the Hue sliders to change the colour, I will do another video in the near future that covers this 😀

      Did you send the image from Lightroom to Photoshop to start with ? as you cannot send an image that was first opened in Photoshop to Lightroom. If you did start with Lightroom, and close, save does not send it back to Lightroom, then it may be one of the settings in Photoshop for returning to Lightroom. here is a video from Anthony Morganti, I like his works, here he explains the different ways to link Lightroom and Photoshop:- ruclips.net/video/heIInVlqUt4/видео.html
