Hi Dela, I understand completely your reasoning for splitting the component purchase as you suggested. Be careful though that by doing this, that you dont given the suppliers an excuse to not honour their warranty in the event of trouble....’Ah Madam, but you didn’t buy our ...!’
Why don't you buy your own batteries from abroad. The 2 inverter system as 2x5kva works same as 10kva. But the 2 inverters have to be programmed to communicate with each other.
I just got a quote for my house I'm building in South Africa and sharing my journey on my channel as well. I got a sticker shock when I found out that the system would cost upwards of $30 000 USD! Sis, you are doing great and at least you are close to the finish line. I want an off the grid system but OMG, so expensive. I still have not decided what I'm going to do.
Wow, £20 000, why are solar systems so costly in Ghana. In Southern Africa they're very affordable to the extend that people in the rural areas (villages) can afford them.
There's a difference between experience and overpriced. Research the entire solar system so that you aren't the most ignorant person in the conversation with all the money. Also, it's aways a good idea to get a bit more solar power than you think you need, even on a budget. Budget UP, not down, since continuous power is very important.
Mate! They not cheap but long run would b benefit ya & patient home as well do it well rather go on cheap way. Make sure the independence installer could b found when something goes wrong
The inverter is really expensive you can buy it from China for less than half the price in Ghana. I bought my transformer and AVR in China which was much cheaper compared to the price in Ghana.
That good like having the best of both companies and use them for what you need. That's how you do it , that's great thinking. keep up the great work.✊🏿
Have you all thought about looking on eBay for you inverter? If you have a person you can trust in the U.K. it might be cheaper to buy and ship to Ghana door to door. I have looked on eBay and a 10kva is not as expensive as the price you have been quoted. Buying and shipping appears to be cheaper than buying it in Ghana 🇬🇭. Check eBay.
Tell you what, if you're buying battery, then don't look for anything other than lithium batteries. They cost more but worth every penny. The rest won't take you more than 5 years (among other limitations) vs 16yrs+ with LiFO lithium batteries. Also, it's way cheaper to buy on Alibaba + shipping + tax (if you know how). Moreover, go for 500w panels and save yourself some space. Those all cost $ of course. By the way, you really should know the specs of the battery, inverter, panel....everything before spending money (capacity, lifecycle, etc). Solar doesn't save you money in the short term so buy long lasting stuff.
Hello, do you have nice wind gap on tope of the roof🏚? My suggestion, ask both companies if they have a wind turbine generator, if they do, then you can get 2 wind turbine generator, that will help you top up your batteries so you don't have to worry that much in the night 🌙 😐
Yes I see £2000 difference in price between both companies. They say join get what you pay for Dela so I can see the customer service from the dearer company is on point. You could bring those prices down easily by getting an All in One Mpp Solar inverter x 2 units. 5kw each with a Parrallel. Card to run them together. When a large load is switched on they share the peak power so you don't get a unit shut down. They can also be expanded to add more inverters into 9 in parallel for a massive system. You can buy direct from MPP in Taiwan. Plug and play system makes installation much quicker and cheaper. The battery charging parameters would need to be programmed by you installer to manage your batteries charge and discharge rates. Usually 2.6 - 3.6 volts bottom to top end. Good luck with whichever system you choose. It's really exciting and I wish I ciudad be building mine now because mentally I'm ready. 😀. 🇬🇧🇯🇲❤️🙏🏾
@@moretodela You’re very welcome. I hear you. It is a worry. The reason I mentioned MPP Is the fact they are well established and I’m told they respond to your emails quite well. Jenny I think the ladies name is but she may have moved on. They test all products but you can insist they send you a fully second tested unit/s. The good thing about MPP is you don’t have to worry about charge controllers or chargers as it’s all in the one unit. I need to clarify that in my earlier post I mentioned the battery charge and discharge parameters for lithium phosphate batteries. That was for individual 3.2v raw cells made up in batches of 16 cells to form a 48v (51.2v) battery bank. That’s for a diy set up. So please ignore. 41-43v bottom end would be my preference (check with your electrical installer) for a 48v battery before the battery management system cuts off any further discharge and and alternative source of power kicks in to support the current load draw. ie grid/generator. There’s an ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch built into the inverter that’ll switch once the pre determined or pre programmed low voltage from the battery is sensed, it’ll switch automatically to the alternative power source. The chosen source then also begin to recharge the battery at the same time as supplying the load. Hope that all makes sense. If your installer is competent to build a battery you can save a tonne of money and have a Hugh capacity. Just a thought. Raw Lishen or Eve Cells 3.2v 280ah cells can be purchased from AliExpress quite cheaply these days. But correct welding cables and lugs would need to be purchased as well as battery battery management system (BMS) unit and victron smart shunt and disconnect and fuse. So can be tricky. If Pre built BYD battery banks don’t come down enough in price by the time I’m ready to build then that’s the route I’m taking with help from electrical engineer friend. Although I’m reasonably confident to do build it myself with the research I’ve done, there’re some aspects I’d want two pairs of eyes on that’s all. ✌🏾❤️🇬🇧🇯🇲
total rip off...Just buy x3 £1000 lithium batteries like bluetti etc, that already have all the MPPT and inverters built in... (3 areas of the house, 4-8 panels connected to each) and 12-24 panels at £100, £5000 will give you everything you need...you literally plug the fridge etc into the mains of the battery
Y don't you build up a roof to cover the stairs to avoid the rain water coming downstairs. Make it in such a way that you can still have access to go up there
Its too expensive in Ghana. Go for high wattage panels so that you use less. There are even flexible panels that you can also get but they do not produce much energy like the regular panels. These flexi panels are very lightweight and there are sime that you can even walk on like mats. Also you need to consider where you are going to mount the solar panels because you need to wash them with water from time to time when they get dusty. So easy access needs to come into the design.
Please can you tell me the quotes for the whole solar system 🙏, I want to add it to our budget? Also, is your home paid in free & clear? Do you have property taxes & insurance you need to pay every year? How does it work in Ghana?
There are property taxes that you get to pay annually in Ghana buy this is paid to your local assembly or municipality office or council. As a matter of fact we pay to both TDC and TMA for grounds rent levy and water and sewerage levy and a host of others. You should be receiving bills and letters with your quote to the address you registered your property on. For insurance its considered an option in Ghana as I don't know anyone who has been forced to insure their homes, its advisable to have this should any unexpected occurs. This is because most insurance companies in Ghana are not highly credible when it comes to claims so most people deter from taking it. But anyone who knows how worth their property is to them would be looking for a good insurance and well reputed ones to join. But most people don't. They would invest in security and fire prevention system, as floods are considered act of God the insurance companies do not payout to that. The good ones would be clear to you upon inspection and find out that the building or house is in a flood prone area.
