- Long made quick and complicated made easy. 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander rear parking brake service mode switch sequence shown here. Just follow this video in real time and you will successfully put your vehicle into service mode too. Or read below. This is how I did it:
1. Key On Engine Off
2. Foot depress brake pedal and hold entire time
3. Apply parking brake by pulling up on the parking brake switch located on the center console
4. Quickly toggle the parking brake switch from release to apply back and fourth until 2 brake lights start flashing on the dash, the message will read parking brake temporarily not available.
5. Finish that sequence by releasing the parking brake by pushing down on the parking brake switch
6. Quickly push the auto hold button 10 times exactly, located directly behind the parking brake switch
7. Push down on the parking brake switch1 time, releasing it once again.
8. The message center will now read Parking brake service required and will be yellow in color.
9.You will hear the rear parking brake motors turning and just wait till they stop turning.
10. Release the brake pedal
11. Turn off the ignition
12. Pop your hood
13. Pull off the air box inlet tube by removing the 2 push pins
14. Pull on the inlet tube where it attaches to the air box and squeeze the bottom and top while wiggling it up and down to release it out of the air box.
15. Disconnect the ground on the battery
16. NOTE: You do not need to turn back the calipers they will simply push back like any old front caliper.
17.SIMPLE to put vehicle back into normal service.
18. Hook up your battery negative
19. Intake inlet back on
20. Key on Engine off
21. Apply the parking brake, pulling up on the switch
22. You will hear you motors spinning again.
23. Lights will go off
24. Back in action you will be
DO NOT forget to properly burnish your new brake pads to your rotors. We don't want to ruin our brand new gear down there.
Good Luck I hope this has helped

Keep on Netfix and building Авто/Мото
This really works. It worked on my outlander 2020 and I changed the break pads. Thank you!
It worked also on my 2017 diesel Outlander. The procedure is not described correctly in the original Workshop manual, so your video was very helpful! Thank you!
You've explained this very well . no problem with my 2018 Outlander to fully go into the brake service mode. It does have a push button ignition so I turn it on (without engine running) and depress the brake pedal. I followed the procedure once. parking brake switch on , then switch the parking brake on and off several time until paking light flishing then i press the auto hold 10 times, then press the parking brake switch off once more. then you hear the motor working. thanks a lot. save a lot of money
I am happy to hear this worked for you. That is awesome. 😁
I don't know what the fuck I did but I follow this guy for a 2018 had to try for like 2hours before it actually worked Idk what I did don't ask me just happy it did
Do we hold the brake pedal the entire time?
I will try this thanks
Tried all day and never succeeded.
Thanks a lot. It worked after a couple of tries. The instructions on my device told me to press autohold 15 times...
for whatever reason I didnt see video a year ago. But I found it today :) Thanks
Thanks man! I was going nuts here following the process as they describe. But the steps from the OM is wrong! You did an excellwnt job explaining!! 5⭐
Just did this sequence today on my daughter's 2018 Outlander with push button start. Surprisingly I got it to work on the first try. I saw a few people ask about the caliper piston as I had that question earlier as well. You will still need to manually retract the piston after removing the caliper. By putting it into this service mode you can retract it without ruining the motors for the electronic parking brake. I was nervous in the end if I'd wind up with blinking warning lights about the brake but I followed the end sequence as shown in the video and no error or warning messages. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for your positive feedback and love your helpful comment for others. Awesome it worked out well for you.👍🏽
My mechanic changed the brake pads without putting it in service mode now the parking light is blinking. Do you know how I can remove it. Motors seems to work since epb work fine. It is just the light that won't come off.
Very helpful information, thank you very much!
Thank you for your feedback, we really appreciate it. 🙏🏽
Seems like this video is best one on service mode for this vehicle.👌🏾
Thanks so much. Happy it’s helping out with this crazy sequence. 👍🏽
Is it necessary to get the code flash post maintenance?
it works well on are outlander 2020 PHEV :-) Thanks for the video!
Great to hear!
Great information! Keep it up!
Thanks, we will keep on pushing.😁
Great explaination.
Excelente video
Okay I got the 10 times hit the hold and pressing the ebrake,, but is there an amount of times you have to press the erase button OR keep doing it til you see it come up on the dash?
Hi, I have 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander GT. I tried the procedure but not able to put in the service mode.
Thanks!!
Wow amazing video with great description 👍 have a great day
Thanks for the info. I have an Outlander 2019, the only difference is that its push button start type but I am not able to get into the maintenance mode. I think I did follow the steps. Just to confim, I need to press the brake pedal during the whole process, right_ UPDATE: I missed one step, and now it works! Thank you!
Can you go through the steps you took to do this. Its not working on my 2019 outlander.
@@tacticalsealingllc1649 I followed the above steps. I tried a few times before it worked. I had missed step 5, then the 10 times push are really 10 times, so make sure to count each one (like one Mississippi, two Mississippi...). I hope this helps
If you look In the description I tried to break it down in writing. Everything needs to be done exactly as I’ve done in the video. It’s crazy. 😁
So what did you have in the first place before decided checking RUclips?! My 2019 Outlander peeps with Parking Brake Service Required!
I Changed my break pads today by using a 9v battery trick (Mitsubishi Outlander 2019 SEL AWD). NO trouble codes, NO PARK BRAKE DISABLED warning. I did not rewind the piston all the way in. Rewind the motor to get enough space.
. leaver on P position.
. Release EPB
. Disconnect the negative side of the battery.
. Disconnect the plug on top of the brake caliper.
. reverse the caliper piston by using a 9v battery ( DO NOT rewind the piston/motor all the way in).
. insert new pads
. Reassemble the unit
. Reconnect the plug on top of the brake caliper
. Reconnect battery.
. turn on the car and apply EPB
*Attempt this method at your own risk*, *You can't treat these as professional advice* , * I am not a mechanic or expert*.
That’s awesome you made that work. I have used this method before on some older German vehicles.
Is it the same for a 2022 eclipse cross?
Ok I have 2010 Mits Outlander GT, I tried many times didn't work so I cleared all started over I just had to rock ebrake quickly back n forth two brake lights came in hit like 5 times auto button then cork screw released, did it to both sides
This worked good for me until i went to take it out of the service mode..
brakes engage and disengage like they should, but the lights are all still on and flashing as if it was still in the service mode.
My maintenance parking brake is required maintenance so it's already flashing. I've tried this a few times and can't figure it out.
How do you get it Out of maintenance mode
Step 5 you don’t specify what you release and you don’t show it either, one can assume anything, “parking break” “foot break” plus this video is split you film this first part up to the point where you flip the e-brake up and down and then cut to the part where you say “release” my guess is that it was very difficult for yourself to do this as well. The only thing that will happen is you attempt to do this faster or multiple times is end up with a dead battery, hope this helps anyone can’t perform this method.
Sorry this didn’t help you. I actually use this video now for when I need to do this sequence and it has worked multiple times. Maybe the description will help clarify step 5 for you. Thanks for the feedback.
Can you help me remove that error? I cant go out says “parking brake service required”
My lights keep flashing brake pads have been changed why isn't the flashing stopping
I have done the rear brakes twice on my Mitsu now because the OEM brakes pads blow and only last about 20k. Hopefully the Bendex work better from Rock Auto. This method does work but I don't know how exactly. KEY on, hold brake pedal, APPLY parking brake, toggle PB switch back and forth quick until you get the red error message, then you hit auto hold 10x...this is where I get hung up, why? Nothing beeps changes nor do you get a new message. I hit that button a 1000x times to see if it ever did anything different and it did not. I never heard the motor unwind themselves either. So back to the method, KEY on, hold brake pedal, APPLY parking brake, toggle PB switch back and forth quick until you get the red error message, then you hit auto hold at least 10x and then run up and disconnect the battery before it goes out of safety mode ( have the battery terminal ready to just pull off). I then did a pad and rotor R&R which required me to use a FRESH 9V battery to drive in the pistons in via the motor. Go back, reconnect neg batt terminal and then I just hit the set the PB button and let it drive in until it stopped and it seemed to work and I didn't have to ask my friend to clear any codes.
Sounds chaotic haha. Must have been an issue with when you stopped toggling the parking brake switch and started pushing auto hold button. That’s just my guess, it needs to start and finish on the right stroke if you know what I mean. Happy you got them replaced with no major issues. 👍🏽
Amazing information thank you for sharing. Unfortunately the info on Mitsubishi Outlander maintenance is so thin on the internet for some reason, you just saved my A**.
Awesome news, thanks for the feedback. 👍🏽
What if it says parking brake not available
if i do this would i be able to push the piston in or do i still have to do the wiring trick with power source I've seen in other video
how did u go? here for the same reason
This was very helpful and we were able to change the brake pads and rotors successfully. However, none of these videos seem to have any information of how to reset your “parking brake maintenance required” dash light after you change your brakes. Any tips? I feel like we’ve searched everything and found nothing.
Interesting, there is a chance you actually have an issue with one of the caliper motors. You’ll need to scan the car to see if there are any codes. Happy this helped for your brake replacement. 👍🏽
hope someone can answer this as i know this is an old post.. but after you replace the pads, do you pump the breaks to push the piston back out BEFORE you reset the parking break or do you simply put the new pads on and reassemble everything and pul the parking lever to get it back to normal operating mode?
I don’t know the specific answer but I think either way works. What did you end up doing?
Hello,
I am trying to do this e brake thing with my bf n his son. The e brake light button is flashing.
Dash brake
Light is on n the yellow exclamation next to brake on dash in on too with the service brake required. Please
Help
Did you every figure this out?
You've explained this very well and I even printed out the steps you listed. My problem is that I can't get my 2018 Outlander to fully go into the brake service mode. It does have a push button ignition so I turn it on (without engine running) and depress the brake pedal. I followed the procedure several times. I get to the point where it says "parking brake temporarily not available", release the parking brake switch, press the auto hold 10 times, then press the parking brake switch once more. I've not been able to get to the screen where it says "Parking brake service required". Very frustrating. Any tips to what I may be missing? I started wondering if the dealership somehow "locked" this function out so I'm not able to perform Maintenance myself. **UPDATE** Finally got it working. I tried to do everything a little quicker, not sure if that made a difference, but was finally able to get into the 2nd mode.
Happy you were able to get it figured. Took me a long time to finally get the procedure correct. Super painful. Great job, thanks for the feedback.
U're right. I engaged the same situation. I did it right when i was doing it quickly. I think there's a time limit for the procedure.
Did you still have to push the piston in?
I have a manual pull parking brake on 21 outlander sport se. Is any other procedure required similar to this?
No this procedure is not possible with manual parking brake. You will need a special tool that turns the brake piston while it compresses it at the same time. Sorry for the late response.
Thanks for info! I have a 2017 GT, I’ll try this and hope it works. Any reason why you have to remove the air intake inlet tube? What’s the significance? Thanks again!
I believe it was just to access the negative battery terminal. You want to remove the battery negative terminal to prevent yourself from accidentally putting the vehicle back into normal mode while working on the brakes. Thanks for the question. 👍🏽
Hi Alex, are you able to do this on 2017 GT? I have 2017 GT and not able to put in service mode. Could you please share your process if it worked for you.
@@narranarasaiah I tried multiple times and it did not work for me also. What I did was disconnect the battery terminals just in case, then unplugged the wire that’s connected to the caliper. I then used 2 scrap pieces of wire and connected one end to a 9V battery and the other end to the caliper. If you touch the ends of the caliper plugin with the battery wires the piston should open. If you reverse the wires it should close.
on step 5…when u release…u mean pushing the brake bottom down (not up)? is that right? i just got confuse with the word release, to me that means releasing the brake by pushing up. thanks
From what I can remember. When I say release I believe that’s how the parking brake is unapplied and on this vehicle when you push down it unapplies the parking brake. I hope this helps. Thank you for the question. 👍🏽
I prefer cars like back in the days
What about the 2022+ Outlander, will it also work? Its basically a Nissan Rogue.
I’m not sure but it’s worth a shot.
My 2019 mitsubishi outlander parking brake service required is still on and beeping. What can i do to turn it off
Have you tried disconnecting the battery and reconnect it. Then get in the car turn your key on and apply the parking brake?
Me to I need to get this solved. 😩 I made sure the caliber is back but since touched epb and it won't register as disengage
This is happening to me. I’ve tried everything 🥲
Same
do you know how to do it on a 2019 mitsubishi eclipse cross es? it’s not a push button e brake, i have a regular pull handle e brake. i can’t figure it out
I believe you need to turn the caliper brake piston with a special tool while you compress it.
I have parking service brake required continues to beep. How do I fix this
??
Hi I’m sorry you were experiencing this issue. I have not come across and issues with these systems yet. Just the ability to replace the rear brakes. I would try and disconnect the battery for a like 15 minutes and see if that changes anything.
@@Netfixandbuild You must take it to mitsubishi to have them reset it. My dealer did it for free with a simple unscheduled visit. Took 20-sec.. My 17 was unable to enter into this mode so i retracted them manually and had it beeping after restart.
I can’t engage the parking brake now after entering device mode, how can I fix
Everyone I have used this procedure. I hook battery back up then key on engine off and pull up on your parking brake switch to apply the parking brake and the motors spin out and back in action.
How do you do the key sequence and brake pedal on a push button start?
Yah that sucks, next push button I see I will try and do this sequence and let you know.
Not working for my 2019
How do u turn epb light off if I did brakes without turning maintenance off ?
Sorry I’m not too sure has happened. I haven’t run into any issues with my process yet.
I did the same the but now it’s stuck in the service mode. How can I fix?
Sorry I have never had this issue. I would try using the electric brake on and off.
Im stuck on parking break service mode. EPB is just blinking + on the dash
I see that’s an issue with a few comments. Did you ever get this figured out?
Followed steps exactly and worked fine. But now I have an issue with E Break. SHowing error message and even when it is turned off, it gives a warning that E break is on. Have tried everything to reset it but it wont go off. Driveable but warning in constant. What can I do?? Please help
I have this issue now. How did uou fix yours?
@@sherwindancasaol6346 Still havent. I have to replace the Caliper was the reply by the mechanic but I dont buy it. It works fine and there are no issues with the breaks except for that annoying error while driving. Still hoping for an answer from the poster of this video
Ahhhh haaa you done fukd up. That’s why you should
Never listen to people on RUclips.
@jjcalder131 we have this issue now. How were you able to fix this?
What does it mean when the parking light start flashing on the dashboard? Does that mean it went into service mode?
I think it just means you’re ready to continue with the sequence.
My 2019 Outlander peeps with Parking Brake Service Required! How can I fix it ?
P.s the E-parking brake works efficiently and nothing wrong with it.
I am unsure of the cause. Have you tried to disconnect you battery for 15 minutes and see if that’ll reset the computers?
@@Netfixandbuild I disconnected the battery, but not for 15 minutes!
So the procedure you shows on your video doesn't apply on my case?! I tried to do as same as the video steps, and nothing changed :(
Same thing happened to me. Did you fixed it? And if you did, how?
@@halvynadames2579 I could not fix it yet, just reseted the error after paying for the scantool man, and stopped using the parking brake completely to avoid watching the error appears again...
My car is literally stuck in this mode now
I have a 2017 and it won’t come out of service mode but the brake is not on. Car still moves freely like it is not on
Hmm that’s interesting, sorry for the late response. Did you ever get this figured out?
Having the same issue! Trying to see if I can't find a fix!
How do you turn the parking brake service off?
The answer might be a little late but in my experience today, is that I drove my Outlander a couple of blocks while testing the brake pedal that felt spongy at first after changing the rear pads. I pressed the pedal at least 20 times in drive and while backing up into my garage and that did it. When I went to put the parking brake that was still flashing, I pulled the button and heard the motors activating and going into position and just like that the Brake light indicator in the dash and the button stopped flashing and everything went back to normal. Basically, drive the car after changing the brake pads. No need for a dealership unless you damaged something while retracting the pistons.
Did you ever get this figured out?
Hello, we can't get ours out of service mode and it keeps beeping
I’m sorry I can’t help. Just try and reset and follow the procedure exactly or it will not work. Crazy sequence. Took me hours to figure it out the first time even with the procedure.
Doesn’t work on mine 🤦🏻♂️
Does this also apply to a 2019 Eclipse Cross?
I wish I new that answer but I’m not sure. I would just try it out and see what happens. You can easily go in and out of maintenance mode. 😁👍🏽
@@Netfixandbuild my kid managed to get my 19’eclipse cross in parking brake maintenance mode and nothing I’ve done will get it out…is there anything you can do?
Yes same thing. I did it today, you need to go slowly when you apply and release the E-Brake button, but same sequence.
@@daleberthiaume9759 did you ever solve it? I'm facing the same issue now
Sorry. It didn’t work for me. I did it the old fashioned method with power probe.
That’s nice it works the old fashioned way.
You're saying "accidentally going back into service mode." Do you mean accidentally exit service mode?
Yes I messed that up. You don’t want to exit service mode while working on the brakes. I get confused sometimes 😂
Hey Men! I have for second time this error..! PARKING BRAKE SERVICE REQUIERED. Do you know how can delete this error? Only whit scanner? Plz help...! My car is a montero sport 2020
Did you find a solution I also have this problem
I had the same You're like a problem I did this multiple times and it did not work yet
Sorry it hasn't worked yet for you. Its such an annoying sequence. Needs to be done exactly the same as the video or it wont work. Hopefully you can get it to work. Read the description if you haven't tried yet that may help.
I did this all but it will not let go of service mode
Are you saying that it is stuck in maintenance mode?
@@Netfixandbuild yes I ended up having to get it towed to a shop to get hooked up to turn it off
Didn't work. My actuator burned because I tried so many times, which ended up costing me $1100 to replace it at the dealership
This dont work for my push start
Yah that sucks, If a push button comes through the shop I will see if I can figure that out. 🤞🏽
I made a mistake and pushed this button and I can't get it to go off?
Which button?
@@Netfixandbuild The electronic parking brake botton. I took it to the dealership and they said they had to recalibrate it. It basically malfunctioned. Unfortunately, it cost me $122🙄...but I guess it could have been worst.
ME TOO!!
didn't work and now the e brake system is disabled. wtf?
I figured it out. on my own with a scan tool. way easier.
DO NOT DO THIS, what they don’t tell you is you can’t get out of service mode without going to the dealership or some other shop to use a computer to get you out. I did this and now my car is stuck in this mode and won’t stop beeping. Everything works fine but needs a specific computer to get this code removed and my $350 scan tool won’t work.
Unfortunate to hear, I have performed this procedure at least half a dozen times and never once had an issue going back into normal mode. Sorry this didn’t work for you.
Do not do this 2019 locks into service mode
smells very bad! go to jail
Useless video. It doesnt say how many times to push and release the parking.brake switch, how many times to hit the button..
Hey sorry you found this video useless. If you Read the description and/or follow along exactly as the videos shows you will have success. 👍🏽
