I have a 2019 Outlander. It’s the best bang for the buck. My daughter bought the CRV ( very nice suv - reliable good on gas, lasts forever ) but she paid about 8k more than I did for the same features and there is no third row seat option with the CRV. Love the Honda but when the grandkids are up it’s nice to have the third row. I’ve had absolutely zero problems with the Outlander. Mitsubishi is an excellent example of the power of marketing ( or lack thereof ). 20 years ago Mitsu had a great well-earned reputation, not quite Toyota or Honda level reliability, but above virtually every other Japanese brand and two planets apart from any American car. Then the parent company spun them off and, now on their own, they didn't have the financial resources to keep up with Toyota and Honda. So, they just soldiered on for 20 years selling about 125K/year of cheap ( but bulletproof) Japanese built cars and SUVs to people who could not afford much better. However that gave them a bad reputation, erasing the good one. Now, they build one decent SUV and a whole generation is like "whoa, Mitsu builds good cars???" Yet, that same generation of people has no idea that Hyundai and Kia used license-built Mitsubishi engines almost the entire time they have been sold in the US. Only around 2015 was Hyundai / Kia able to use engines they themselves designed.
Mitsubishi was spun off from MHI on 1970, before they even officially debuted in the US. That didn't play a factor in anything. It was the "0-0-0" sales event that hurt the most.
the recall scandal, Asian financial crash, epa violation scandal, did not help them. I think they tried to get to big to fast and could not compete with Toyota/Honda. GO MITSUBISHI!!! Hey Zane, Thanks for a very fair and insightful review. All my past and current Mitsubishis and Nissans have been awesome, fun and extremely reliable! I'm elated at the corporate alliance between the two companies. I've driven the outgoing Outlander PHEV twice and came away extremely impressed!! Ultra-smooth, seemless operation. In fact, I would say Mitsubishi's hybrid system is far smoother than any of the clunky ones from Toyota/Lexus or Honda. As you mentioned in the video, this new Outlander is bold and has an eye-catching design. My 2009 Galant 2.4L (4G69) has been a solid performer with bulletproof reliability. I'm also nearing 200K miles with my 2011 cube SL with its original CVT (CVT fluid changed every 30-35K miles at the dealers). Absolutely no regrets at all. Mitsubishi is extremely underrated here in the US, but I still love them!
I just bought the new Mitsubishi Outlander and I love it. It’s a beautiful car. The downside is that it has two recalls you have to remedy for your safety. A computer malfunction that can be set at the dealership, and a flapping hood malfunction that is extremely dangerous at highway speeds that can be ordered and installed at the dealership upon request. They have to add a piece of rubber under the hood to prevent air from making the hood move while going highway speeds. Don’t go over the 24,000 miles if you want Mitsubishi to take responsibility for all the recalls and possible car replacement. Other than that it’s a great car and feels luxurious! Everyone is in awe of my new car and all the features!
My wife just bought a 2022 Mitsubishi outlander SEL and our mind had blown away with so many features only found on luxury cars.😮 Good job Mitsubishi👌🥳😛
@@JIMMY-ck1oe you said u tried, but never owned one so thats the diffence. Its easy to compare if you only had the car for a couple of hours. 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander SEL are one of the cars that are actually built in Japan!
I love the new redesign, and it's awesome that it shares tids and bits of Nissan. I don't care what anyone says, for what you pay for it's on top of my list for a new vehicle!
Last long-term-rental I had was the Outlander sport. I liked it over RAV4, Rouge, Compass. Drove cross country 3x. I went out and bought one, more than happy.
The Outlander actually has a different engine than the 22/23 Nissan Rogue, which has a 1.5L Turbo 3-cylinder. It has more power and torque but I think this 2.5L 4-cylinder is a proven engine and will most likely last longer without issues.
Just purchased the 2023 Mistubishi Outlander SEL less than 2 weeks ago and it is amazing!! Comfortable inside. A lot of technology and safety features. Just a smooth ride. Going to take it on a 4-5 hour trip at the end of July and looking forward to a great drive. All you comments were spot on.
I have the new 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander for a busy mother like me is working great my first Mitsubishi so happy !!it comes with a 10 year warranty by that time I'll get my second Mitsubishi.
On my second outlander sport always do schedule maintenance- first issue happened at 115k miles with catalytic converter in on my second with 77k and no issues! Get great gas mileage, i just wish the seats had lumbar support and were more comfortable.
My husband purchased a Mitsubishi Outlander GT V6 brand new 2014 for me in 2014. This was the best car/suv I've ever had. It came with lane departure warning, back up camera, brake assist and front collision warning, You name it , and hit had it, and this was 2014. The car is 100 percent reliable and it can fly. I replaced my 2005 Chrysler Pacifica with the Outlander. The Chrysler Pacifica was the worst car/suv I've ever owned,( If you can even call it a car/suv.) And if you have one, I don't have to explain. I told Chrysler people, if I ever come back for another Chrysler or Jeep or anything associated with Chrysler, just kill me because I'm too stupid to live. I still have my 2014 Mitsubishi and I drive it more than my brand new Mazda CX-5. The only reason I didn't get another Outlander is because it has the CVT now, no thanks. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
We got a 2023 (SE) and are generally impressed... one major hiccup is if the front sensor is occluded/clouded/obstructed... the car appears to get confused and grovels in partial apoplexy... it will go into reduced power mode, with accompanying red warning signs all over that digital dash (happened to us in 6-lanes of Chicago Friday evening rush hour in a dirty/misty drizzle with no place to pull over...). Once we were able to stop (car had less that 5K miles at that point), and restart the engine... it reset, and all was well... lesson from this is to clean the sensor area when getting gas -- just a good swipe with the window cleaning squeegee... hasn't occurred since... one very BIG plus is the fuel mileage -- the trip computer might be lying to me, but I don't think so, and I routinely get better than 33mpg even in stop-n-go DC rush hours, with road averages in the 35-37mpg range at interstate speeds... the seats are quite comfortable for long trips (20hr driving days or more...) and I'm getting used to the driver assist steering which is a good feature, but a tad distracting at first... otherwise, the Outlander seems to be much as described here... Mitsubishi appears to have done their homework; we'll know more in a 100K miles or so...
I’ve never been interested in the brand but lately I find myself admiring them on the road and researching them. Definitely going to shop them when my lease is up.
I've had 3 mitsus in the past, and my current wife had a 2019 Outlander that she loved. She wanted to get a new one in 2022 but there is no dealership within one and a half hours from us. The local dealer in Columbia, S.C. closed. She now has a 2022 CR-V.
Exactly my issue. Had two 2010 Lancers and while both were trouble free they did have a couple of minor recalls and the nearest dealer was 65 miles away. When it came time to replace them I bought a Subaru that I can get serviced locally.
On my 2nd Mitsubishi and have no complaints. Awesome in Minnesota winters, do have winter tires, and great on gas. Former Toyota owner and they both are great.
I have 2 mitsubishis here in the UK, a 2015 Outlander and a 2006 Shogun, without doubt the best cars I have ever owned, totally reliable and lovely to drive
the probleme for me is that it dosent ave the v6 any more i cant tow my camper with the new model but it looks realy good i will ave to keep my 2015 model for now
I have a 2021 Outlander and i have had ZERO issues. And they are actually Made In Japan, not in Mexico. I also expressly bought the base model because I don't want to be constantly nagged by obnoxious automation like lane departure, adaptive cruise control, stop start etc etc. And the climate system has round knobs and physical buttons, it is not touch screen which is more difficult to use when driving spiritedly
I had a few Mitsubishis a Galant gts, 3 eclipses a 2016 outlander base and I just bought my wife last year the 2022 SEL Special edition and I can honestly say imo they are really good cars and the new 2022 is a big bang for the buck! I got leather power seats , navigation Xmas radio and apple car play as well a nice screen and all surround cameras and sensors as well heated seats what more can you ask for? For the price point and all the stuff you get compared to any other cross over/cuv the Outlander has them beat in every category.
Test drove one twice recently ...you feel like your driving a V8 ...but it's only inline four ...you feel like your in a man's car ...very cool look from drivers windshield ✌
i want a new 2023 eclipse and i hope you drive it first but im set on it soon i hope!great review for very underrated cars.i owned 5 and the only issues were in the late 1990 and 1999!
I have got outlander phev 2023 in Sydney Ausyralia. They really feel luxiorious and joyful to drive. Aside from availability it is not that expensive to maintain.
You should do an updated video, because a lot of cars are showing quality issues, from a shaking hood while driving at speed, door cushion not tight enough to prevent whistling, leather in seat not staying where it is supposed to be, oh and that's not all.
Just bought my 2nd mitsubishi and my outlander already has a bad sensor after the fact I had a sensor bad on my eclipse cross too 🙄 I'm over these damn sensors. This one is my forward collision mitigation one that's in the windshield. If there's an update they need to do it if not then I'll have to wait 3-6 months for a new windshield. I'm not happy with this issue
Having sold cars for 11+ years, I know which cars are reliable and which ones have the most complaints. And having owned a Mitsubishi from 2009 to 2019, and from then 'til now, I can vouch for their quality and reliability. If I had to replace my '19 Eclipse Cross I would not hesitate to head to my local Mitsubishi dealer and buy another one.
Unfortunately I bought a 2023 Outlander SE this May 2023 with 47 miles on it and by 200 miles I had issues. It has been back to the dearer 3x by 800 miles with infotainment/electrical issues they cannot figure out. The dealer has had my car for 5 days now and they are saying I am not the only person having this issue. I've contacted a lemon lawyer since they aren't offering me anything. You've been warned. Do NOT recommend
Everyone talks about the great warranty. Better than Honda, Toyota. The warranty is only good as the one standing behind it, and the dealership that wants to help. With all the shipping and parts issues good luck if something breaks and needs replaced . Dealer network in our area is way smaller than Honda or Toyota, for Mitsubishi! Sorry my money for longevity is Toyota, then Honda. And resale value as well!
The wife and I looked really hard at this one! Beautiful vehicle, nice body lines and awesome interior! Really wished it had more power and an 8 speed transmission. We wound up getting a CX-5 Mazda carbon edition with turbo and all wheel drive! 225 hp and red leather interior to boot! All for the same price as the Outlander, after the dealer discounted it by 2 grand. Would have definitely been the winner had the Outlander had more power and a better transmission.
We own the outlander...it has plenty of speed and it does have an 8 speed transmission...I can pretty much do anything I want on the freeway in a xover
Also the fact that the Outlander is a rebadged Nissan Rogue since nissan merged with Mitsubishi and Renault. The only thing that you get is a third row seats.
@@Jase583 After driving one, I feel it’s enough power and the CVT is nice once you get use to it, very smooth, though I’m not a fan of fake gear shifting…in sport mode it does hold the devs though which is perfect.
I've owned a 1999 Galant V6, then traded it in for a 2003 Eclipse GTS. A 2nd 2003 Galant for our oldest daughter for college then finally we bought a 2008 regular Lancer for our youngest daughter for college. Other than the 1999 Galant all of us have kept our Mitsubishis. They're excellent in every way!
Even though both Nissan and Mitsubishi use JATCO CVTs, Mitsu has a better track record with them in regards to longevity. This new Outlander though is 100 percent Nissan Rogue under the hood. This doesn't bode well for reliability. Mitsubishi programs their JATCO CVTs with INVECS III programming, arguably better reliability, and they also tend to have under-powered engines in order to lessen the stress on the CVT.
Less power output usually means you’re deep into the throttle to get juice out of this thing. This vehicle was designed with a PHEV in mind. This powertrain is just a placeholder for that.
@@fleghel There are key physical manufacturing differences of JATCO CVT7 & CVT8 between Nissan, Mitsubishi, and Suzuki. For one thing, the CVT7 in the Mirage comes with a better oil cooler and a dipstick to check the cvt fluid.
@@kylemas2005 Jatco transmissions were dropping right and left in Nissan and Jeep products but other manufacturers didn't have any problems with them. Only had two cars in my life with transmission failures, one was a Toyota and the other was a Honda, both around 100,000 miles. I personally wouldn't buy the Outlander with mostly Nissan running gear. I don't buy a Mitsubishi to get Nissans bad reliability .
Take it back to the dealer, they have a fix for it now and the flutter goes away. Only affected early Outlanders, current Outlanders don't have this issue anymore.
Thank you for this. We have been looking for a reliable 5 seater good gas mileage, comfortable suv and stumbled across this. With proces going insane we wanted to feel that our next purchase we would get value and not feel like we overpaid. We had a 2012 hyundai santa fe we bought new that we loved that took us everywhere we just out grew the size of it. So finding this outlander it check all of our boxes.
If owners change the CVT fluid every 30-40K miles, they'll be fine. I've got almost 200K miles on my 2011 cube with its original CVT still running smooth and seamless. My 2011 Juke's CVT was still going strong when I sold it last year. I REALLY miss that li'l bug-eye beast!!!! Maintaining a vehicle according to the manufacturer's recommendations does wonders....Sadly, most owners of CVT-equipped Nissan are unaware of this, as they likely don't service their Nissans at the dealership. Toyota, Honda, Subaru, Dodge, Audi/VW have ALL had CVT failures in their closet. I personally know two Corolla owners who paid out-of-pocket for their CVT replacements. 2014-2015 Honda Accords as well. Most of these acquaintances sold their Corollas/Accords to the next sucker.
One thing I know it drinks fuel if you are doing lot of mileage and don’t have the time to charge. Other then that it’s a fantastic car. If the battery range was bigger it would be amazing
It gives you 35-40 miles on EV (this is plug in hybrid) and if you want to use it economically you need to keep charging it otherwise it consumes a lot of fuel

I have this car and it makes me nervous that it does not come with a spare tire... also the bad design on the hood makes you feel like the hood its gonna fly away! ... so far I've had 3 recalls on this car....
I have owned two Mitsubishis and happy with them. However Mitsubishi motors falls for the same crap like others car manufacturers to put 4 cylinder engines on their prime model. Just to save some money for themselves. My Outlander 2018 is 6 cylinder 220 hp. Why Brute why?
As the Nissan Rogue's funky twin sister I think the Mitsubishi is more appealing and the Plug In version is mega appealing at least for me. The only one down side is I am really in the market for a Highlander size offering.

OMG, why would I want one. Those sound like major problems.
No, they are recalls, so fixed for free, so not a problem.
I tried new outlander last year but the engine is quite struggling compared to crv or other cars
Any issues with it since you posted this?
@@Dagon8661 no more problems after recalls were repaired and it’s great on gas but I wouldn’t buy another Mitsubishi 🥹
My wife just bought a 2022 Mitsubishi outlander SEL and our mind had blown away with so many features only found on luxury cars.😮 Good job Mitsubishi👌🥳😛

I really love it don't care what everyone says it looks beautiful period
I love the new redesign, and it's awesome that it shares tids and bits of Nissan. I don't care what anyone says, for what you pay for it's on top of my list for a new vehicle!
👍
We love ours too!!
😂😂😂
@ceasararcejr7390 did you buy one ?
Last long-term-rental I had was the Outlander sport. I liked it over RAV4, Rouge, Compass. Drove cross country 3x. I went out and bought one, more than happy.
Such a great vehicle. Sharp and competitive.
A year later; what's your assessment? Especially for that long 4-5 hr trip???
I have the new 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander for a busy mother like me is working great my first Mitsubishi so happy !!it comes with a 10 year warranty by that time I'll get my second Mitsubishi.
DO you have a link for this exact Outlander? Thanks
Well said. Your Outlander was Proven. Nissan, CVTs… this Spells Bad Things.
I love mine! Ive got the most basic one but with the nice rims. Looks and feels expensive without having to be expensive.
I have purchased a 2022 Mitsubishi PHEV VRX 4WD and very satisfied. This is vehicle number 5 for me from this stable, need I say more.
I’ve never been interested in the brand but lately I find myself admiring them on the road and researching them.
Definitely going to shop them when my lease is up.
How is it in the snow?
Mitsubishi made my favorite car when I was a kid, the 3000gt. Always been a dream of mine to get one and restore it to it's full glory
I tried new outlander last year but the engine is quite struggling compared to crv or other cars
Where was this recorded?
Beautiful car,,
I had a few Mitsubishis a Galant gts, 3 eclipses a 2016 outlander base and I just bought my wife last year the 2022 SEL Special edition and I can honestly say imo they are really good cars and the new 2022 is a big bang for the buck! I got leather power seats , navigation Xmas radio and apple car play as well a nice screen and all surround cameras and sensors as well heated seats what more can you ask for? For the price point and all the stuff you get compared to any other cross over/cuv the Outlander has them beat in every category.
I thought the same thing... 8 speed cvt?
The PHEV is going to rock.
Test drove one twice recently ...you feel like your driving a V8 ...but it's only inline four ...you feel like your in a man's car ...very cool look from drivers windshield ✌

So did you ever drive a previous mode Outlander?
I have got outlander phev 2023 in Sydney Ausyralia. They really feel luxiorious and joyful to drive. Aside from availability it is not that expensive to maintain.
I have 2008 mitsubishi lancer that has 317,625 miles with mostly routine maintenance.
Espectacular obra de arte 🎉🎉🎉
Has Mitsubishi fixed the Outlander's HOOD FLUTTER over 40mph?
Loved this review....I have a 2013 Kia Optima and I am looking for a reliable SUV for road trips...I might have to consider this vehicle now...
Rav4 or Outlander?
@@MrNoNoNoNyEclipse Cross. But the Outlander if the EC were not an option. Either of the 3 would be good choices though.

Gas pedal, & brake pedal ...feels good to touch ...important stuff
Does it have the same transportation as a nissan? That would be bad 😮
22 have a had 2 to 3 recalls and the windshield is expensive to fix
2022 Mitsubishi Montero Limited with 246,500 miles and not one issue!!
I’m getting one after renting a 2022. Feels like a refined expensive vehicle
I bought a new 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander GT at the beginning of 2012. No problems except for key fob sensor going out on the passenger side.
How much price US dollar
This brand used to be so popular during the 80`s and 90`s , i`m glad its coming back.
The lack of power and CVT are the only thing holding this car back. This car would be great with a real transmission and a turbo.
It’s like arguing which way of leaking toilet seats is nicer: same CVT, from the same supplier, used in cheap vehicles… “but programmed differently!”
@@fleghel There are key physical manufacturing differences of JATCO CVT7 & CVT8 between Nissan, Mitsubishi, and Suzuki. For one thing, the CVT7 in the Mirage comes with a better oil cooler and a dipstick to check the cvt fluid.
@@kylemas2005
Jatco transmissions were dropping right and left in Nissan and Jeep products but other manufacturers didn't have any problems with them. Only had two cars in my life with transmission failures, one was a Toyota and the other was a Honda, both around 100,000 miles. I personally wouldn't buy the Outlander with mostly Nissan running gear. I don't buy a Mitsubishi to get Nissans bad reliability .
I had a 2009 outlander and it was the best car I ever owed. kept it for 11 years until I had to sell it Cuz I was moving.
The only thing that sucks about the recent Mitsubishies is their exterior design language. Apart from that they have always been very solid cars.
HOOD FLOTTER IN MY 2022 is the only problem
Take it back to the dealer, they have a fix for it now and the flutter goes away. Only affected early Outlanders, current Outlanders don't have this issue anymore.
Front end looks like a Rhino without the horn.
I hope the Nissan CVT in the new Outlander is more reliable than the ones in the Juke and X-Trail have been.
Hope so too, not have an outlander but the lancer 2011 in had was so good never had any problems with it
If owners change the CVT fluid every 30-40K miles, they'll be fine.
My wife and I both have mitsubishi's and I have a 2022 Outlander and I love it it is an awesome vehicle

One thing I know it drinks fuel if you are doing lot of mileage and don’t have the time to charge. Other then that it’s a fantastic car. If the battery range was bigger it would be amazing
What battery? This isnt an ev.
It gives you 35-40 miles on EV (this is plug in hybrid) and if you want to use it economically you need to keep charging it otherwise it consumes a lot of fuel
Hi Zane, never heard of you until this vid. You have something up on the "great" Scotty Kilmer. You both talked about the Mitsubishi Outlander. However only you seem to have realized it's a rebadged Nissan Rogue with a third row seat. Scotty seemed to not realize this. Amazing.
